My Little Guy flinched like that for the rest of his life. I learned immediately to slow down, to not trigger that fear. He had scars, poor baby. He learned to come for treats and hugs. I finally gave up on car trips, he thought he was going away. I cried every time he went insane in the car.
@@Madronaxyz He was middle aged starvling when I got him, and lived 9 years with me. I always had kibble in his bowl and he never went hungry for a second. But I hand fed him little bits of meat and he loved raw vegetables maybe because I ate raw vegetables? One day he came up and begged for something already on my fork, and without thinking I offered him the fork! His first request after a couple years. He delicately took it off the fork like to the manor born and wanted to sit next to me and fed his delicacies by fork ever after. It was so funny cute to see him sit up straight and eat with a fork, I fed him on his chair right next to me for years. His body language became royal prince instead of quivering prisoner. Worth it!
Sounds a lot like my Chihuahua when we first got her. She would shake and shiver all over and when I talked, every consonant I'm made caused her to jump and twitch. She also loved vegetables when I introduced them to her!
I had never adopted a pit bull. We lost our little one & had to get back happiness. We went down to the shelter & saw a pit bull. We did the meet & greet & the family said yes right away, I still said no- I got voted over. We have had this dog for 3 years now, she was 3 when we got her. She gets 2 walks a day, loves everybody, loves to cuddle. Lilo is awesome. I'm so glad I got out voted. She never seems to have a down day, well.. tomorrow is her yearly shots so she could be feeling low tomorrow. If you never have had a pit, please give them a try. They are strong, act like a train, but gosh they are as loveable, fun & super friendly as you will ever find.❤
I had a tan Staffy bitch named Lucy. The first time I took her for a walk all the local kids ran. The next time the kids wanted to get to know her. After that all the kids called her Licky Lucy but walking her was a nightmare because I had 8 young ones who wanted to come along with us.
I had a pitti in the early '80's. His name was Bull due to my husbands birth month. I cannot tell you how swee this dog was. When I would sit in my chair he would come up to me and would lay his head in my lap. Then he would take one of my thumbs in his mouth. When I would try to pull it out he would latch on to it even stronger. Then he would lift his front legs onto my lap, then after a few minutes he would then pull up his back legs onto my lap....all the while 'sucking' on my thumb. Then the the next thing would be him laying across my chest with his head wrapped around my neck! He was so protective of me yet he was the most gentle dog I've ever owned. He was just so wonderful!!!!! I still miss him. My sister now owns a female pitti due to how I expressed how sweet they are. Her dog is just so damn sweet! She will lay against me while I sit on the sofa!!!! She is just beyond sweet!!! I love her!!!
I have to say that after reading your comment several time I still don't understand what you are saying until the end.. I KNOW Pit Bulls are wonderful! They are the perfect dog to own!!!
I am disabled and really don't get out much. I spend most days watching anything and everything about animals. I had a hard time watching animal rescue channels because they just broke 25:22 my heart and some I felt were staged. I'm so happy I found this channel. Rocky, you and your wife and all the people you work with are angels on Earth. I find myself on an emotional roller coaster watching these and shed tears of sadness and happiness. These animals deserve love and comfort and a happy peaceful life and it's amazing for all the people and volunteers that make such a huge difference in this world ❤
Our dog was like Kuma 9 years ago. Breed to the point of her body not being able to breed anymore. The breeder said we could take her if we paid for the spaying. She has been a wonderful addition to our family. We did have a transition period to get her healthy and happy but so very worthy it.
As an ex-longtime shelter ACT that did a lot of behavior work I can say without a doubt that volunteers do so much and give employees so much information. Fosters too.
I’m not a dog “lover” as I prefer cats but these videos make me emotional. All animals deserve kindness and respect especially such devoted ones like dogs. Nice job Rocky
You're a dog appreciator :D Never bad to have appreciation for an animal, but know, that it's not the right fit for you. Makes me think if everybody was like that we'd have less pets in shelters.
I adopted a girl like Kuma. She wasn't quite cancer she "disappeared" in her kennel & she'd been there several months. But another volunteer fell in love with her & introduced me to her. I adopted her about a month later & she was the best dog I'd ever had (& i've had a lot in my 60+ yrs). I was going through cancer treatments when I got her & she was definitely my emotional support. We were inseparable. Sadly I lost her about 2 months ago...she was 13. I've been broken hearted. 💔
I am so sorry 😞 for your loss. I just lost my dog, Bailey of 15 years so I feel your pain and wish I could take it away. I also wish you good health and you will be in my prayers.
Understand how you feel, my baby Rocky passed in his sleep 3 years ago aged 14. He didn't suffer but I was heartbroken and still miss him every day. Thinking of you. ❤
@@MsWarriordiva Hey, we just lost my partner's dog (he had her from a puppy, and I'd known her since she was three) a couple of months ago, and she got me through my treatment as well. She was the most incredible dog and I miss her every day. She was 12, a big mastiff cross, and plagued with hip problems since birth. No one thought she'd make a full lifespan, but she did. She was the best dog.
I’m so sorry you are going through so much. When you’re ready, I promise the next right one is out there, maybe right now. I’m fostering a pittie right now, and it’s been a joy getting to know the breed!
Poor Kuma. She breaks my heart. I hope she comes around soon. She melted into you, Rocky. I pray all these babies get forever homes. I was depressed today but you made my day.
Has there been an update on this sweet girl? I hope she was adopted by a patient, loving family who is willing to work with her and love her always. She deserves that.❤
THIS MAN HAS A HEART OF GOLD……WE ARE A BETTER AS A PEOPLE, WITH PEOPLE LIKE HIM. CUDOS SIR….❤❤❤❤! I’m a retired Police K9 Handler and love animals. Dogs just need a little love and they will give you a LIFETIME of “UNCONDITIONAL LOVE”!
When she finally sat in your lap and the words on that song of “ you’re the only one that makes me talk and walk” I lost it with tears. What a BEAUTIFUL sweet dog. THANK YOU for giving her some much needed love.
I agreed to foster an American Bully 4 years ago to keep him from being euthanized. I have two other dogs so I was hoping he would be adopted. After about six months I realized I couldn’t give him up. He knew I had saved him and he became so attached to me I couldn’t let him down by sending him to another home. I have zero regrets. He is my 56 pound lap dog.
I have been watching for a while now. I love what you do, but for me I can only watch a little bit here and there cause it just breaks my heart to see these poor brothers and sisters of mine living this way. As a Six Nations Mohawk, we see all animals as family and the way they’re treated by most is just deeply unsettling to me and my people. Thank you for doing what you do. You make me happy and give me hope😊🙌🏾❤️
Another amazing Sitting with Dogs. I honestly can't get enough of these videos. Often, they're one of the best parts of my day. I come home, watch the dogs start to feel better, and it's an immediate dopamine boost. Thank you, Rocky, for always being the biggest champion of these shelter animals... AND for entertaining and educating us all. ❤🐾
I cry over these stories. I’m so happy over them. I cry over their stories. I just want to take all of them home. Thank you for working these special babies and helping them find a good fur ever home. Bless you!
I so look forward to seeing your videos. I have just lost my dad of 15 years and cannot stop 😢. Your videos have cheered me up and I know I need to adopt a dog who needs a forever home. I have much love and patience to give to a dog in need. Thank you for your guidance and help ❤❤
Oh, that's always so hard. I find it helps me to think back over the years and remember what a great life we had together and how it benefitted both of us. And definitely, when you are ready, share that big ❤ with another special friend.
I understand losing a pet. My cat was 18 years and 8 months when he passed away, last May. Our Vet said he was the oldest cat-patient she'd ever had. Having our furry-faced sweeties that long leaves a big space in our hearts. I hope your sadness, lightens soon.
"That look" is how I got my Pit Bull! She is so sweet and loving!! Cats, dogs people, she loves them all! A bit of a challenge for me since I am used to Labs. In fact the day I adopted her, I was in the middle of adopting a Lab when she caught my eye and heart!!
Kuma looks like such a sweetie. I wish I was closer to be able to come get her. I'm in So NV but am disabled & cannot make the trip but could give her such a loving home here with my other fur baby girl RuRu. Kuma is a beautiful baby girl, such a sweetie pie. 🐾💖🐾
Have you tried reaching out to Rocky or the shelter. I remember hearing something on a video about arranging transportation for animals. All his addresses are in the description.
@tclark7802 - Someone wrote 2 days ago (further up): "FOR THOSE THAT WANT TO ADOPT AND AREN'T LOCAL: Please reach out to *rescue organizations in your area* so they can *tag* and *transport them!* You can then *foster-to-adopt them* ❤🐕🐈 (the shelter is called *Animal Friends of the Valley,* and is located in southern California!)." Maybe they can help _bring Kuma home_ to you. 💖 🐕 🐾🐾
Hello from Ontario, Canada! I just love the way all the shelter dogs seem to trust you. You truly have the gift. I just lost my beloved sister, on May 10th of this year, VERY unexpectedly. I have been lost and lonely without her. She was what I called, "The Dog Whisperer". All dogs seemed to love her, and she loved them. She could encounter the most unsocialized dog, and immediately have them sitting and waging their tails. I don't think she ever encountered a dog that didn't love her. God Bless you, for the work you and your wife do.
So sorry about your sister. I hope that you are feeling a little less lost & lonely. It definitely takes a lot of time. Ive lost 2.sisters. i also hope that you've met lots of dogs that remind you of her & have good memories!!
I am always amazed how much variety your shelter has - the city shelter near me has 90% pit bulls and the county shelter a little west of my has 90% hounds.
Same near Ann Arbor- mostly pit and pit mixes, hounds sent up from shelters in the South, and huskies (because people do not realize how much exercise and work they need).
Your videos are addictive. Thank you for being so committed to dogs. After watching one of your videos, I want to hug my new-to-me rescue pup. We are working thru fear issues now.
Last month, I broke my wrist in two places and haven't been able to go on my weekly walks with dogs from my local shelter and I hadn't realised how much impact they had in my life. Your videos are a good way to compensate a bit. :) I'll soon have a pet accepting apartment and I can't wait to adopt. I'm apparently a big dog person, according to my local Genevan shelter's staff! :) Just hope my new apartment is big enough! :D I'm now officially retired (disabled due to PTSD, burnout and other health issues) and have all the time in the world. I hope I'll be able to get a dog and give them a good home.
Crying always with your videos Mr. Kanaka.. it's a mixed emotions.. hate to those people who abandoned them and a very thankful heart for you for helping them and giving them the chance to have a new family to accept and love them unconditionally.. a subscriber and a rescuer too here from the Philippines
FOR THOSE THAT WANT TO ADOPT AND AREN'T LOCAL: Please reach out to rescue organizations in your area so they can tag and transport them! You can then foster-to-adopt them ❤🐕/🐈 (the shelter is called animal friends of the valley, and is located in southern California!) Thank you rocky for what you do!
@@danubiacallara Reach out to rescues so you can fill out a foster/adopt application! Not all rescues transport, so you will have to look. Please let me know how it goes!
I saw the cane corso and my heart just melted. I myself have a male unaltered (but neutered) corso. Such a fantastic breed but people really need to do their research first!!!
She is a living doll…I remember my Addie (the Australian cattle dog mix I adopted from AARF here in Tennessee three years ago)…but she had a fantastic foster mom in Chris 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻 and Addie…kept her name…has become my best friend…God bless you for all you do…pities get a bad rep….all rescue sources are God’s gifts to mankind 🙏🙏🙏…Sophia’s tail wagging and Kuma’s paw lift brought me to tears 😥😥😥
Kuma is an absolutely stunning looking dog, I hope she finds a loving forever home very soon!! My heart goes out to all these beautiful dogs who just want to be loved and give love in return!! By the way Rocky, you have “the best” laugh!!
My 2 rescues are chihuahua mixes. They were 6 yrs old and they were a package deal. They both had to go together. They were so scared and wild I could not touch them. 6 years later they are spoiled rotten cuddle bugs. It took alot of work. They taught me patience. I wondered more than once what I got myself into. I thought once about taking them back but it was an instant NO, I'm keeping them! I love them! Best thing I ever did. ❤❤❤
Thanks for adopting them together. I can only imagine how hard and trying it must have been for you. But you stuck it out like a champ and you are a wonderful person for doing so!
Have seen this many times, these poor Dogs are sooo scared, Thank you for holding this baby, rub their ears gently & watch them calm, I Pray someone takes this Precious baby & let her know She will be Safe & OK. God bless those who help Dogs. ❤️❤️❤️😢😢😢
I went to the shelter when it was closed and there was this very lovable female pit bull who was behind the fence. I wanted to adopt her sooo much as she was licking my hand through the fence. I went back to adopt her and they told me that I couldn't unless I was a homeowner. Or got permission from the people who we were renting from. It broke my heart. She was so gentle and loving. This was in the shelter in Pomona, California. I pray I will be with her in heaven.
I have adopted 5 shelter dogs in my life each has been a wonderful part of my family, we always keep the first letter of their shelter name for their family name.
The sweetest dog I've ever met is a bullie breed of some kind (I think a pit, but I'm not sure). I keep forgetting her actual name, so I tend to refer to her as The Good Dog. She's just the sweetest, most calm creature you can imagine.
I'm a big believer in there's no such thing as a bad dog, only bad owners, I've had nothing but rescue dogs my whole life, but it breaks my heart to say I can't have another dog, as I'm disabled now, but please continue what you do foe these fantastic animals, no dog deserves t9 be without a home. Thank you for what you do.
Pitbuls are the best- I had 3 of them, all rescued, 2 from the streets , 1 - from a friend. They are love of my life. Unfortunately, one of them left me 6 mos ago due to cancer, and I still cry recalling him. People, adopt - dont shop. Find it in your hearts to give homes to shelter dogs🙏🙏🙏
Sierra spoke to my heart! So much love in her eyes just begging for someone upon whom she can shower it. I used to be afraid of Pitties until we rescued an abandoned and starving one with mange. Right from the start she was the most loving dog, and so social with people and other dogs despite what she'd been through. I wish everyone knew how loving Pitties can be, and in your lap, every chance they get, plus kisses, loads and loads of kisses!
Sierra looks like my pittie Buddy. I adopted Buddy a few months ago after I lost my dog to heart failure in August. It broke my heart. I wasn't planning on adopting right away but I saw Buddy and he was just what I needed to help heal my broken heart. I love pitties.
‘Where am I? Where’s my family? Did I do something wrong?’ Blimey, that tugged on my heartstrings. My Staffie-cross rescue had so many traits of many of these dogs. Picked up as a stray she, thankfully, was only in the rescue centre for a couple of days before we fell in love with her. She’d very obviously been mistreated - she found it very difficult to trust men, which took her a long time to get over - but she desperately wanted attention and had so much love to give. We lost her to cancer in October, and I’m still struggling with that, but I’m sure we’ll find another rescue when the time is right.
Rocky, you are such a blessing to all these pups! 🥰 I use the no-eye contact method too and it makes a huge difference when interacting with new dogs especially.
redford showing his belly while you were doing the test just shows how comfortable he is. and he was definitely in play mode for the time you were with him
I am so thankful that there are night drops, instead of just dumping dogs being dumped out on the side of the road. I watch a truck, on my street, drop off 2 beautiful golden lab dogs. By the time I got to them, they ran off into the woods. I called Animal Control. I live in a very rural area. AC said that they would be there in 30 minutes. Well, 30 minutes was too long. I couldn't retrieve them, they just started to go deeper and deeper into the woods. I don't know if AC ever found them. It broke my heart!
I think it's really great that you shed some light on these dogs in need of homes that get over looked. And hopefully they'll be noticed by someone on here. 🤞🏿
My oh my, you do so much good. For the dogs and for all of us who listens and learn about the dogs just being. When u say ”I am so sorry. And its not ure fault u are going to be ok” my heart bursts with so much of love you give these beautiful dogs. 🤜🏼♥️🤛🏼
Das ist eine so wichtige Arbeit, du machst das wundervoll😗. Ich bin berührt und weine bei jedem deiner Videos, weil du den Tieren so viel Liebe gibst❤🩹. Herzliche Grüße aus Berlin
Kuma is such a sweet little lady, beautiful girl. I adopted my puppy and he was my best friend for 13 years RIP Happy lil man, he loved everyone, especially my grandbabies. Chow/cattle dog mix. They know when you've saved them and nothing but love ❤ from the Lil sweet ones
I was like the family couldn't adopt the dog without the husband's approval so they left and came back rather than adopting him and returning because the husband felt sabtoged. So well done to the family. Sometimes it just takes a bit of patience.
Here in SC, our shelters are loaded with nice pitties. I have 4 adopted dogs, and I couldn’t take a pit whenI got my last one, because many home insurers (including mine) won’t insure homes with pits. I have a 90 lb. Red Retriever/Hound mix and I had to prove (with vet receipts) that he wasn’t a pit when the agent thought he looked like one.
Yeah our shelters in the northeast have mainly pits. We get a lot of rescues sending all sorts of breeds to us because they have a good chance of being adopted.
I fell in love with Sierra's face (the saddest face...I'm a sucker for a sad face and a rescue pet)...and I instantly wanted her...when u named her u broke my heart... I haven't owned a pet since my last pet passed away years ago (June 2017)....my dog's name was Sierra. I live in nyc tho.
I have an Australian Kelpie I rescued with her sister (ACD) and they're an amazing breed. So loving, loyal, playful, smart. They need lots of exercise, but they're so worth it.
These poor dogs ,, so mistreated 😢😢,, unloved ,, no affection ,,, people who abuse in any way need much stiffer penalties ,, thank God for people like this man 💔🙏🏾🙏🏾
