Not gonna lie but Kofi in ladder matches reminds me of Shelton Benjamin, even Woods and so many others that follow. I think that's something I'm glad you brought up 👆Genius, Benjamin is Peak performance, Peak
Dolph is higher up for me because they actually gave him a world Title run and after injury they never let him have a run again, both are insanely underaged and should have had multiple world title runs
Cornette talks about Shelton all the time about how legit a talent he is, puts him in the same category as Lesnar and Cena and wanted the Hurt Business faction to keep going. If it weren't for Vince 🙃
Shelton is so good at video games, because he moves through the world with video game physics, while the rest of us are stuck with real world physics. One of my all time favorites, a fantastic performer, and a great guy.
1:13 listening to shelton talk about how much he liked working with and respected the younger guys on the indies, you can tell he's just a genuinely nice guy that cares about other people.
As a trivia writer, the fact Shelton Benjamin won Wrestling Observer Newsletter's Most Underrated for 3 straight years in a row [2005-2007] [and technically Cesaro for 4 straight years: 2013-2016], the company should have taken note of how to make them better while get them at least rated or hold more gold to get them more mainstream.
During the WrestleMania MITB matches Shelton Benjamin was the MVP every single time. Such an underrated talent, Wish that he was in the Main Event picture
The Hurt Business was one of the greatest things that happened in Thunderdome Era, and it SUCKED that it ended as soon as it did. Like he said, that's something that could've gone on until now; imagine the rivalry with Judgement Day or even the Bloodline! So much potential there
Allegedly they broke it up because of the bloodline but think of the goddamn matches we would have had Roman lashley MVP Roman and even MVP was a good wrestler
Imagine what company can do with Shelton Benjamin right now ....This man is legendary and a treasure to be a fan to him... The amount of storylines he could have been in is amazing. WWE messed up on releasing him but he does have a multitude of options at his feet...
As a wrestler wrestler Benjamin is up there with the best of them including Bret, Brock, Dynamite Kid, Eddie Guerrero, Sammartino. Angle and Benoit. This dude has talent and can wrestle and has a collegiate background.
Before anybody comes with the lame excuse of "Shelton was never a World Champiin because he had no mic skills, no charisma etc" let me remind you that Jack Swagger, The Great Khali & Jinder Mahal are all former World Champions in WWE. The fact that Shelton has more charisma in his baby toe than those combined, coupled with his freakish athleticism & in-ring ability throughly debunks that tired argument. He hasn't given the opportunity because someone or several people didn't want him to have it. Period. Whatever the reasons for that were, whether you believe race was involved or maybe he just didn't kiss enough a** backstage, its a damn shame either way that a generational talent like his was wasted for so many years.
I always personally thought that Shelton had tons of charisma, and his mic skills weren't that bad. He didn't have the intensity on the mic that's often seen in top performers but he had enough of everything else to largely make up for it. He also received a nice ovation when he beat HHH and not just any underdog babyface would receive that much of a pop.. I think bad booking was probably the biggest issue for Shelton.
Shelton Benjamin just admitted he watched The Incredible Hulk live action tv show. The fact he drops David Banner and not Bruce Banner is proof of this. Bruce's name was changed to David for the TV Show. While pointless to the interview it just was a neat little trivia thing.
I’m loving all these Chris. You really have done so much within the wrestling community and getting the right interviews. You’re one of the best Chris. Shelton is excellent and always enjoy what he has to say.
I haven't been into wrestling for more then 10 years but I do remember how talented Shelton is. His someone that can follow in mavens footsteps and start a youtube channel and all the fans that stopped watching back then would come and support him.
@@icestormcrocodilefog”ain’t no stopping me,no” lol 😂 but most wwe theme lyrics get jumbled anyways. I know I used to fck Crispen Wah’s theme up until I looked up the lyrics😅
One of my favourites before I was even a teen. The man himself doesn’t disappoint, and that’s exactly why he got treated badly. He’s a great guy with no bad traits, Vince doesn’t connect with folk like that which said it all really.
It's a damn shame how the wrestling industry has treated Mr. Benjamin. He is the best pure athlete on any wrestling roster. Benjamin is a hybrid of Kurt Angle & Michael Jordan for pure athleticism. Shelton is a five tool top athlete. The only thing to me that he may be lacking in is his promos but him with Bobby Lashley in the hurt business was awesome. Somebody definitely has it against Shelton bc he should have had so many runs with the world title. In my opinion Shelton Benjamin is the most underrated undervalued wrestler I have seen who has most certainly been held back. Somebody at the top decision making is JEALOUS. Max Caster can shut his mouth disrespecting Shelton who has more talent in his pinky finger than Max Caster will ever have!! Max Caster = JEALOUS INSECURE Mark!
@velikanovesuze764 And yet, Jack Swagger, The Great Khali & Jinder Mahal are all former world champions. Shelton having more charisma than those three combined coupled with his in-ring ability debunks that tired argument.
One of my top 5 favorites as a kid. As I’ve grown older, I’ve truly realized what this man is able to do in the ring People want bring up world championships. But let me tell you, people that know wrestling, know this guy is a hof. Know he’s foreal one of the greats. This interview is great and I hope and pray to see him back in the wwe again.
Thank you for dropping this interview on my son’s (MJ) Birthday. He is only 3, so we’re still watching pre WWE Era and a lot of Old School WCW. But mannn ohhh Mann, I can’t wait to show him the Gold Standard.
I havent seen anyone mention it yet but if anyone isnt a fan of this man you need to go watch the match he had with HBK. It was a normal monday night Raw match that had all the feel of a great ppv match. I was blown away. Me and my dad were on the edge of our couch watching it.
The more I hear these interviews with wrestlers that got released the more I feel better hearing they’re fine and can take advantage of the time. I have no doubt Shelton will find his way back or live his best life.
The part he mentioned about being too nice and fighting for himself reminds me of Claudio castignoli. Their in-ring work was the best ever, mic work or charisma? They didn't have enough of. Hope shelton goes to AEW or NJPW
You can tell that Shelton is articulate, and well spoken just in the first few minutes of the interview. His body language, humility, and overall demeanor points to him being a grounded dude. The interviews that have been posted since a month or two ago have been excellent Chris. Keep it coming my brother. Idk when the appropriate or perfect time would be, but since the re-inception of Bo's portrayal of Uncle Howdy I'd be super interested in hearing that conversation.
I wonder this is a part two or a separate interview but thank you CVV for making this one as a *"Gold Standard"* interview with *"THE GOLD STANDARD"* Shelton Benjamin himself, nothing and no one can stop him anyway to making a constant *"Gold Standard"* interview with everyone he wants
@@martinputt6421The term “household name” has no real meaning anymore in the age of social media algorithms. Most people have no idea who Max Castor is.
Thanks Chris . I’m a senior in high school through other people’s interviews you’ve done and hearing you story that made me do something similar and I got a internship with a local professional basketball team I am interested in sports analytics. Because of you, you inspired me to reach out and get a head start on my potential career.
Shelton Benjamin was the reason I became a wrestling fan again. Definitely underutilized undervalued one of the best to ever do it. He's on my Mount Rushmore 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
It is beyond ridiculous that Shelton Benjamin is not on the WWE roster. He is a gifted athlete and an extremely hard worker. Shelton was rarely used the right way in his career with WWE You may not want to hear this but I feel that the reason for that is simply the color of his skin. This man even at this point is more talented that a lot of the young guys who are on the WWE roster at the present time.
Mad respect to Shelton. Years ago, I got to watch a tag match with him, Charlie, Eddie, and Chavo. Easily the best I've seen live. They all treated it like their Wrestlemania even though this was just a small house show.
Shelton Benjamin’s journey in WWE has been nothing short of legendary! From his incredible matches to his memorable moments, he’s a guaranteed Hall of Famer. And that Shawn Michaels match? Pure gold! 🤩👏 #WWE #SheltonBenjamin #HBK
He would be such an asset as a trainer. I think his mic skills were the only thing that held him back. In the ring he was top tier though. WWE would be doing their new guys a disservice by not having Shelton around to train with. AEW might use him right. This guy can make anybody look good.
@@DynastyIconI disagree swerve built hisself into a star . If he goes back to wwe he’s inserted into the top of their card imo . Swerve could work with Rollins , Drew , Punk , Gunther without a doubt .
Shelton Benjamin’s Ringwork was underrated. One of the first to introduce the technical and springboard aspects of wrestling in the R.A Era. A true journeyman for the company. 👍🏽
I point out to my wife that one of the greatest performers to ever get in a WWE ring is from orangeburg whenever I see the exit while passing through SC
WWE Had gold with Shelton they had it in their hands. household name that fans would respect to be a top top guy. But I still enjoyed growing up watching this guy.
One of my favorites growing up, legit one of the first wrestlers I think of when I think about MITB.. his spots back in the day when it was still at mania were amazing
My favourite wrestlers of all time were Jericho and Shelton - different reasons obviously but recently with the news about Jericho. Shelton is now my standalone favourite. My favourite ever mania moment will forever be him running up the ladder. He’s so underrated, underused and under appreciated.
I love this interview. Thank you Chris for another great conversation. You’re the best. Now I’m at home doing dream matches with Shelton Benjamin on 2K23. Waiting to get 2K24 for my birthday. 🤞🏻Thank you Shelton Benjamin for all you’ve done in the biz of pro wrestling, looking forward to seeing what you do in the future. We love you man.
Shelton Benjamin is the highlight of my favorite WWE live event I ever attended. He was in the opening tag match with Cedric vs Rey & Santos. Shelton worked the crowd into a fervor and was a joy to watch work live
ANOTHER GREAT INTERVIEW MAN SHELTON WAS THE BOMB SHAME UNDERUSED DUDE WAS GOOD IN THE RING AND WORKED WELL AND DUDE LOOKS BETTER THEN MOST WRESTLERS TODAY DUDE IS HUMBLING AND KIND
Chris just keeps hitting it with these interviews. Love it, thanks for the hard work put in to this and thank you for getting some of my favorite people in your podcast, awesome (:
I relate with Shelton. I’m not a jerk. I always just believed working hard would pay off. He doesn’t wanna step on anybody’s toes or take food outta anybody’s mouth. Respect him for sticking to his true self. Always looked up to him. There wasn’t many non stereotypical black wrestlers growing so I really related to Shelton.
The spot Shelton was referring to was at WM 22 in the mitb match, it was a sunset flip to Bobby lashley with Matt Hardy and finley assisting into a triple powerbomb from the ladder, the spot sounds crazy but Shelton feet were touching the mat and he was selling like he couldn't powerbomb him after the sunset flip and Matt & finley came through with the assist.
Shelton looks frigging great! Really nice guy too, very respectful. Shocked WWE hasn't hired him back for some role, i bet he would be super easy to work with.
LMAO from 'I don't know who Max Caster is, he shouldn't be worried about me taking his spot' to 'Yeah, I'm willing to work with Billy Gunn' in less than an hour, legendary.
Max Caster's interview got 37k views in 3 month Shelton Benjamin got 20k in 5 hour Shelten can teach young people with his long experience, but he can also learn something new from older wrestlers who have a longer career than him Two different questions with answers that may seem contradictory to each other
Sheldon looks incredible. Another amazing talent wwe writers didn't use well at all. Love that the interview is inside a ring.mThat holds so much character
you really need to be praised for not just how you handle interviews but the style and the vibe, etc. etc. BUT also who you pick. This was a great interview just like the one year ago. sadly I don’t think many people would choose Shelton Benjamin for an interview, but I’m so glad that you never look at it. This was great
51:58 The look you gave Shelton when he told you that ladder spot was his idea 😂😂 Just pure GOLD!!! No pun intended. Also this was a great interview, Shelton is wise beyond his years and he put the work in. He’s definitely Hall Of Fame material.
Anyone who thinks Shelton can't cut a promo. Find some of his NJPW or ROH stuff. When he's allowed to flow he can cut a promo, not to the level of a Stone Cold or Punk but he's capable.
Shelton is one of the best wrestlers WWE has ever had. Everyone talks about Bryan Danielson and Kenny Omega. Shelton smokes them. He's trained with Brock Lesnar he's truly a gold standard. He shoulda been world champ based on wrestling alone
