Transcarpathia has long been famous for its castles. The Schönborn Palace, which used to be the residence and hunting lodge of this noble family, is also worth paying attention to. It was built by Count Erwin Friedrich Schönborn-Buchheim from 1890 to 1895 in the neo-romantic style, which became a combination of Gothic-Romanesque motifs. Fortunately, the Schönborn Palace has been preserved in its original state to this day, both externally and internally. The architecture of the residence was made according to the corresponding astrological principle. Let's take the windows - there are 365 of them here, just like the days of the year, there is even 1 bricked-up one, the analogy of which is given during a leap year. The palace has 52 rooms that represent the exact number of weeks in the year. There are 12 entrances here according to the number of months in the year. Decorated from the outside with stained glass windows, bas-reliefs and weather vanes, the residence is surrounded by a 19-hectare park. Here you can find rare species of trees, including cherry trees, boxwoods, catalpas, Canadian spruces and rose beeches. The highlight of the park is also the pond, whose shape exactly repeats the territorial boundaries of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
