I still remember the Christmas 2000, when I got Dreamcast and Shenmue. It was the most magical day in my life. I had stepped into the future, and everyone who saw that game, couldn't believe their eyes and ears. It was pure magic. Now, 22 years later, it's still the most remarkable game I have ever experienced. Nothing can ever beat the feeling that I got, when I booted this game for the first time.
Yakuza - slightly using several aspects of Shenmue (like how even in Yakuza 0 the faces most of the time move when the scene is not important are very similar to Shenmue's), but not similar. Quantic Dream's games - TV-show-esque, not similar, but Indigo Prophecy was a nice try.
Got the both Shenmue 1 and 2 on ps4 and starting playing with the first one week ago. I didn't played it back then cause I was a nintendo gamer more and I was into Zelda Ocarina of time back then. Im in the start and I'm loving it. The atmosphere of these games brings you back in time, when you were playing hide and seek and football with you're friends the day and then videogames when you're parents were not in the television. We were playing great games back then. I'm loving the ost too!
Never got a Dreamcast and I just started playing Shenmue the other day, but I love seeing posts like these because I still know what you're talking about. That magic of getting a new console or game on Christmas and all the innocent excitement a kid feels for that. It's something else. I don't feel it anymore, but I remember how it felt!
@@therealoinjman only got around to playing this game when it came out on ps4, but yes I can for sure say that this and the original mgs are on the same level in terms of landmark games. I am still blown away by the fact that this is a 20 year old game. It's not far from something that could be released in this day and age. Feels really modern.
It raised me. Dad was in jail. Mom was drunk all the time. Then Shenmue came out when I was 14. Played it in my basement room. Sad. Happy. All emotions. Taught me martial arts. Hi friend. 😁
@@holeindanssock156 wow shenmue must mean a lot to you then . Personally it's my favourite game along with its sequel which I finished a few months ago but not for any important reason like yours just because I enjoyed it
@@taffysaur I think they mean underrated in the sense that SEGA won't see it through to the end. They'd rather just spit out Yakuza after Yakuza and Sonic after Sonic. It's bizarre.
@@m0003506 Both pioneered what you have today. So not overrated at all. People were too busy blinded by their friends being sheep and buying the Playstation. Just because people didn't buy the DC/Shenmue in big numbers didn't mean they weren't revolutionary.
The weird thing is, 20 years later I have actually been to Hong Kong and Guillin. I remember visiting them (and Singapore before) about 15 years after playing the game, and thinking... weird, these streets, these shops are just like Shenmue 1 and especially 2. At the time I have no concept of what the vibe in Asian cities was, and Shenmue captured it to the point that it actually matched some of the reality.
Asia continues to change and grow. Many of the streets and shops have changed. While some remain true to the old days, video games like Shenmue immortalize the feeling of the towns and communities as they were. There are people in their 30s-50s who boot up Shenmue, and remember the good old days.
@King brian Boru Are you still playing? lately i've been pretty discouraged with the gamer scene. For everything that happened and still continues to happen, how money ruined good companies and how games became copies of others, uninspired. Currently I dedicate myself only to the indies, they are the ones that continue with a space in my heart. (and maybe some very specific AAA).
@@kidpresentable6004 Oh, right friend, I'm happy to see you again, do you use steam? I’d like to keep in touch with you on the platform. God bless from Brazil! - hugs.
Best game of all time. Shenmue was a UFO back then, never played a similar game before, it was just so realistic, immersive, unique, poetic. I fell in love with Japan ever since playing the first Shenmue. And the musics of this game are just amazing! Shenhua's theme still gives me goosebumps to this day.
Pretty much the first 30 Minuten of the game: Ryo: "Have you seen a black car around here that day?" Random Shop Owner: "No, I haven't seen a black car." Ryo: "I see."
I love how involved everyone is with Ryo's life and how vague Ryo is with details. Stranger: Hey Ryo! How are things? Ryo: "Hey, about that day. Did you see a black car?"
Shenmue fans... I don't know if you feel the way I feel, I'm certainly thinning you do. Last night when the music played... And we heard the fantastic soundtrack this game had to offer. Shivers went down my spine. I could not believe what I was seeing, After all these years of waiting, asking if there's going to be another Shenmue game, thinking we'll never get closure of this brilliant series. It happened. I never ever thought I'd live to see the day that Shenmue 3 would even be a possibility, I always knew Yu Suzuki wanted to do it, but I never thought he would. And now after 14 long years, it's actually a reality. We're getting this. Back when I was a kid, Shenmue was really the first game that introduced me to such a great video game story, I had played Zelda, Metal Gear, Final Fantasy. But none of that really captured me like Shenmue did. I fell in love with Japan through this game, the characters, the story, the locations, just everything. For years Sega refused to listen, people saying the fan base was none existent. We proved them all wrong by having Shenmue 3 backed in under 12 hours. Maybe now we'll actually get a Shenmue 1 and 2 HD remaster. One can hope, but even if we don't we'll have this. Might be another couple of years, but after 14, who cares? We know it's real and we know we'll see the next chapter in this magical series.
Yeah I thought we lost ALL hope.....................until that fateful day. Me and my 3 sisters were watching E3 2015 and then Shenmue 3 was ANNOUNCED and I can just remember my little sister (Kate) crying her eyes out in PURE JOY!!!. I shed a few tears as well as i looked at my older sisters (Jane and Katherine) they were ASTONISHED at first and then they started screaming in happiness and we had a Sibling Group Hug. GREATEST MOMENT EVER!!!!!
Leon Munns And Shenmue is NOT JUST A GAME...........................................................ITS AN ADVENTURE!!!. A true Shenmue fan will ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT!!
i agree with you! but somehow im afraid that shenmue 3 could bring bad stuff to this magic experience... they are putting limits in what they could do if they dont get the enough money.. maan thats a bad signal to me, hope that shenmue 3 doesnt change what a feel.
jackbauer5220 I come from the future, Shenmue 3 is delayed to 2019, but Shenmue 1+2 HD remaster is a reality and released in 2018! As for what happens in Shenmue 3, I have not the heart or will to tell you, the pain is still too deep... Poor Tom...
I cried remembering the moments I experienced from the game, truly a simple but wonderful experience to go through playing shenmue 1 and 2. Then to be alive to play 3. It makes me happy
I've not played Shenmue 3 yet. I've been very hesitant to try it, and I don't really want to watch much gameplay in case I do play it. It's a hard decision to me, because I feel like it won't live up to expectations. It's also been so long since that summer when me and my brother played the games throughout the nights. Taking turns a whole night trying to take down Chai after having spent hours training moves in a parking lot and stuff :P I actually managed to down him, was the most exciting moment I had ever had back then, I must've been like 10-11 years old or something lol
@@ingainloggningsnamn I got Shenmue 3 for free from Epic Games and I finished it a while ago. Unfortunately I say that you better not play the game if you expect something at least "similar" to 1 and 2 (exactly, it manages to be much worse than games from 20 years ago, even the combat got worse). It didn't take 15 minutes of gameplay for my immersion and experience to be gone. I realized that Shenhua was not well characterized at the beginning, the story of Shenmue 3 begins immediately at the end of Shenmue 2 and Shenhua was behaving very differently, both in her lines and in her temperament, something that should not happen as the story begins at the same point without interruption, not to mention she was given a new voice that sounded quite different to me. The characters interacted with empty lines and it seemed that they no longer had a soul, the atmosphere of the old games was no longer there, and if you persist and give the game a chance you will only see the obvious, that this pattern will remain until the last second ... I think the only cool thing about the game is the possibility that Ryo can buy phone cards and call his friends and family individually and find out how they are doing, this is one of the moments that brings us to Shenmue 1+2 again. But the game is so boring that my advice is that you watch this part on RU-vid anyway hahaha Overall, it's a game made without any care. I'm glad I didn't pay anything for it, but I can tell you that even for free it was a painful experience. Maybe these things I said don't affect people who played a long time ago and don't remember the experience and the characters as they really were, now if you have a vivid memory of what Shenmue is, the best thing is to stay far away from the third game, which for me is not even canonical, at least for me 😅😐😭
I just recently played this for the first time. And it gave me such a warm, fuzzy, bittersweet nostalgia of my youth gone by. This game really captures something in you
Yes Shenmue brothers and sisters the wait is over!! Gonna play Shenmue 1&2 after this history in making campaign. Sincerely thanking all you beautiful people!!
BillyTheBigDeal I think I cried when I heard this... I have Shenmue for my still working Sega Dreamcast... and own Shenmue 2 for original X Box... I can't believe Shenmue 3 is coming out.. I never thought it was going to be possible.. never thought it would ever happen. My PS4 sits and waits the return of Ryo Hazuki-san.
Listening to the title track while strolling through Yokosuka on a clear, peaceful, starlit night after a hard day fighting sailors and driving forklifts... Eternal memories right there.
Truly the greatest game I ever played. I was 11 when the first was released. Still have both games and my Dreamcast. I wish more people could have experienced the first 2. No game has absorbed me into its world like Shenmue. The full experience is just indescribable. Of course I am a backer of 3 and can't wait to play again as a grown man with manly man tears running down my cheeks
This soundtrack is an absolute masterpiece. The attention to detail in every aspect of this game truly makes it stand head and shoulders above any other. Despite the poor sales, it astounds me that the game itself is not unanimously regarded as the greatest ever amongst critics who should have played and reviewed it.
As the soundtrack was essential part of the feeling Shenmue transmitted to us players, I hope Yu Suzuki will again put a lot of effort into the soundtrack and emotional moments, which still separate these 2 games steps ahead of most other games out there nowadays. Technically the games may appear a bit "rusty" or outdated today (but not if you think that over 15 years have gone since they where released)... but the way it involved the player was the difference. The small details like caring for a kitten, seeing your mother worried for you... seeing the relationship between Ryo and Nozomi crumbling because of his hunger for vengance... i hope Yu has not forgotten what the game needs to feel like :) and I hope new players nowadays will be able to get into a game that ain't just about fighting and/or tactics. But looking on success of some games I believe that if they do it right it could be a big success this time around... if they get the right twist between story, romance/feeling, suspense and action. I'm sure Yu Suzuki has not lost his grip and will bring back the Shenmue we loved then (and still love).
That's exactly how I feel about it haha Shemue means a lot to me, I grew up overplaying the first and second on my Dreamcast If I die never playing or knowing how it ends i'd die a very sad man and i'm not even joking
SHENMUE FANS!! The fight isn't over yet! Just because the kickstarter hit the funding goal still does not get us the Shenmue 3 that Yu Suzuki has had planned all these years! We need to get this funded to as close to $10 million as we possibly can. PLEASE dont stop spreading the word! There are campaigns on facebook to spread the word to people like Jimmy Fallon and Conan O'Brian to get them to do something Shenmue related and promote the kickstarter as they are both fans of gaming. DONT STOP EVERYONE!
Thank you so much for uploading this and including a download link. Now in my collection. I am new to Shenmue, only played part 1 and 2 over the last few months. Beautiful games, absolutely amazing.
I loved playing this game, but when you play the english version it sounds like a low-budget Martial Arts film with english voice-over (which I still love ;D). I wish my dreamcast wasn't stuck in my garage mess. I also love how this game makes a cutscene just for flipping a light-switch. And the story... GREAT. I really hope for more games like this today. Too bad most games today are alike repetitive.
Brings back old memories. played xbox, got the sega gt and jsrf pack, saw the trailer for shenmue two. so i decided to get the first with the console, played it, loved it, played number two, loved it. long gameplay is always what is loved in games, makes em memorable. especially with a damn good plot. shenmue three, too :D
This was one of the best games I’ve played in my childhood. I always tried to remember the name of it when I grew up. I searched & searched until I found it. I can watch all of the game movies for hours. & the soundtrack is so soothing I listen to it for meditation. Best game invented.
It's difficult for me to choose a best game of all time, there's been so many great games i have played over the years, but i can say that Shenmue gave me one of the very best gaming experiences of my life.
Im not even joking. I am 26 years old and this is the first time I have heard of Shenmue. I found out about this game from a sample that a rapper used on his track. I am really touched by the community of the game and am shocked that everyone banded together to fund-raise the third installment of this game. I am actually really looking into playing this game as I found out the from individuals in the comments that the remaster is available on PS4, which I currently own. I am happy I stumbled across this OST, its beautiful in every way.
just finished the remastered version of shenmue 1 and 2. great game, i'm glad they remastered it for this generation's console, since the original came out before I was even born. looking forward to shenmue 3
Wow this brings bak a lot of memories. Ever since 2008 or XBOX started getting old I forgot about this game. Thx 4 taking all ur time to put this music up. Its crazy man. 2 hours?
Uno de los juegos de mi juventud, quizá con el que más he disfrutado y he aprendido inglés. Tengo unas ganas terribles de volver a jugarlos en los remaster este año. Magnífica bso, gracias.
'Sometimes I just wish time would just stand still'.....Thanks a lot Nozomi! Thanks, its been stood still for the past 17 years : / Finally going to be getting out of that cave though... : p
There's always that one game in your life that can transcend the screen and influence you in such a way that you never thought possible. I learned a lot from Shenmue.
SEGA was magic, adventure and dreams, and is like it lost it all. Is truly sad, I feel like the new generation of games don't compare in story telling like SEGA did.
It has to be released, Shenmue 3 with Yu Suzuki and the old team bringing the finale to this marvelous and magical quest. 12 years of waiting its too much!
Simply magical. The greatest game ever, with such unbelievable immersion. The music brings me back to when I first played it and that awestruck feeling. Please SEGA, do a Shenmue 3, I will personally buy a million copies!
Back when gaming companies would put their heart and soul into a product they truly cared about. The gaming business has become an absolute shambles nowadays it really is heartbreaking.
Man the sound track is beautiful one of the best and man shenmue 3 is coming just thinking about shenmue 3 and playing the first and second brings tears to my eyes T-T
One of the Most Innovative Games Ever. Soundtrack idyllic, Asian-centric, super fantastic. The game itself is something else - a tragic event that takes place, but Ryo does most of his work in the town he grew up in.
what a beautiful tribute we have here... many years have passed and although I have been able to play great games there are very few who are up to this saga, I hope to be able to enjoy Shenmue 4 in the future.
