I've been needing to see your video for quite some time now. I'm 59 years old and a couple of years ago I had to break down and get dentures and before that day I had always known how to whistle and whistling was a big part of my everyday life. Sadly my whistling days stopped abruptly due to there was not the least little bit of a gap between my upper front teeth. I had been able to whistle any tune from 3 Blind Mice to The William Tell Overture, but I whistling had always been done naturally. A whistling device had never even entered my mind. I'm a machinist by trade and first thing in the morning I'm gonna make me a whistle. I'm ecstatic right now and I'm not going to sleep tonight because I'm looking forward to bringing the whistle back into my life. I can't wait, seriously I can't wait, I'm gonna go on to work right now and make one and start practicing with it. I'll let you know how it goes. I'm so happy I happened upon your video. Thank you so much for sharing. ❤

You Joanne, and a young man on youtube where extremely helpful. thank you. i've now ordered a fancy whistle from Logan. Watching this video and the video where you give Gina a whistle gave me the determination to keep at it. I found that making small “puffs” of breath rather than just producing a constant stream of breath allows a quicker determination correct breath force

I got a shepherd's whistle when I first got my heeler. It took me about 3 days to finally get a sound out, but I am not good at making different tunes. I don't really "need" it, since my dog doesn't compete, and I don't have any liveatock, but it's been great for recall when he is far from me. I practice in the car when my dog isn't around. Thank you so much for this video! It explains a lot of stuff that I missed and/or didn't know.

What's the benefit of this whistle versus well, any whistle? I guess I don't understand unless it's just something you're interested in, why not use an easier to use or learn to use whistle?
@bwrstockdogtraining2723
@bwrstockdogtraining2723 5 месяцев назад
Hi there! That’s a great question. I wish I would have explained that in the video. The shepherd’s whistle is a specialized whistle that you can change or vary the pitch, intensity, or tone kind of like a musical instrument or like our voice. This makes it great for creating many sounds for the different commands. Thanks for asking. Take care
@ajborowski

Thanks for the video! I can get a whistle but can’t seem to get the pitch to change… any tips on that?
@bwrstockdogtraining2723
@bwrstockdogtraining2723 8 месяцев назад
Hi! I tighten and loosen my lip and cheek muscles to achieve different sounds. When I tighten my cheek muscles it feels like I’m pulling them back. I also control the flow of air using different pressures. It takes a lot of practice. I try to whistle simple songs when I practice. I practice away from my dogs and husband. It drives them crazy hahaha Best of luck to you! You’ve got this.
@ajborowski
@ajborowski 8 месяцев назад
@@bwrstockdogtraining2723Thank you! that was helpful, and I seem to be able to get about a full octave's worth of tones now, with maybe one or two above and below that at least for now seem quite difficult to repeat consistently. THANK YOU!

Could I use a normal whistle? Will it work the same way?
@bwrstockdogtraining2723
@bwrstockdogtraining2723 Год назад
That’s a good question. I’ve never used a normal whistle, however, I believe a shepherd’s whistle would have better, more versatile sounds.

just a thought what about if a person has a bad gag reflex what are the options then
@bwrstockdogtraining2723
@bwrstockdogtraining2723 Год назад
I kind of have that problem. That’s why I like my brass whistle. It’s smaller and more streamlined. That’s also why I don’t place my tongue at the end of the whistle and rest the whistle a little higher up on my tongue. It’s more comfortable for me.
@richardjones4080
@richardjones4080 Год назад
@@bwrstockdogtraining2723 so if i tried to have a go at trial work maybe a brass whistle could be a good option thanks glad to find someone who understands that horrible issue
@bwrstockdogtraining2723
@bwrstockdogtraining2723 Год назад
@@richardjones4080 I wouldn’t use a brass one. They can have a bad taste. I just mentioned my brass one because it is smaller and more streamlined. Try to find a whistle that is smaller and thinner.
