The lead single from Shepherds Reign’s forthcoming album is a tale with heartache and familial tragedy at its core. The song shares the story of Filiva’a’s sister who was murdered by her spouse and his family. Laden with anger, Filiva’a voices the thoughts his sister would have felt prior to her death. “Ua masa’a le ipu vai” is translated to “The cup has spilt”, a symbolic look at the love once shared, lost like water in a broken cup.

For a long time I was in denial , But it is what it is. I have to come to terms with the fact that I grew up in a broken home , My parents, in particular my father. normalised Very toxic Antisocial dysfunctional behaviour . It wasn't strange or unusual for my father to get drunk and behave very aggressively towards my mother . I even remember When I was at school one of my fellow students Was telling me that his dad has a few beers On His days off . But he doesn't act all crazy . And I was legitimately Shocked by it . But no joke If you're a kid and you grow up seeing that nonsense all the time It pretty much gives you PTSD . And growing up I never really wanted to be a family man with a Wife and Kids , Because of the Parental Role Models I had . In my mind Marriage just meant Strife and conflict, Like that saying goes kids live what they learn . Anyway thank you Shepherds reign for making this song . And encouraging people to be better people .

To anyone reading the comments - I highly suggest reading the description of the video. The song is one thing, but for the listeners who don't understand the Samoan language, this song is speaking about a very serious and very real topic. Although this song genre definitely wouldn't fit for my old-school Samoan parents, I myself listen with respect and sympathy for the message behind the song. 15 year old Samoan listener here, I've really liked Shepherd's Reign since I first discovered them, and they've always had a unique sound, not just because they're the only Polynesian metal band I've ever heard, but there's just something special about this band that sits well with me. I love this band and was excited to see a new song released, but after knowing the story behind this song, my compassion has been touched. Much love Usos, and to the affected family I share my condolences. May they rest well. ❤

Personally, Metal has to generally have meaning to it or it lacks depth. I've just come across these groups and they breath life and fire into the Metal scene which has gone down the pan rapidly, and I want to hear more of them. You're connected to it, as I was at your age, because it speaks to you. More widely, I see a lot of Indigenous musicians creating awesome Metal because its a universal language and no other form has such a range of expression and, honestly, Indigenous voices need to be heard. Metal is the perfect medium for story telling and creating global awareness. Fans are always welcoming unlike the mainstream who need to be told what to like. Don't worry about being misunderstood by your parents... that goes with the territory! Enjoy the music.. live it... 🤘😎

As an American listener, I can assure you anyone sharing my sentiments wouldn't be offended by anything you've said. In fact, we'd probably share your rage. My prayers go out to you for your loss, that you may find peace in the midst of the pain and anger, and that swift and righteous justice would find the guilty party if it hasn't already. Also, I'm thankful a new song was created from the emotions, because music can heal even the most broken of hearts and spirits.

Fafine Samoa sau mai le Meleke. First gen Samoan raised in the states. I feel super seen with this song thank you guys for what you did. Hopefully this spurs forth important discussions that lead to actual change back home; you guys are the only Samoan band I know that openly sings in such a poetic form about the domestic violence issues back home, especially when are women are largely unprotected. This always happens to almost every woman I’ve ever loved most from back home that I looked up to. For foreigners who never had much experience in Samoa or with others from there? Will give an example… In other countries, the woman may have someone intercede for their safety. But in countries like Samoa, with my experience and countless other women I’ve loved most from family back home, it’s an unusual concept in the middle of the violent act. Painfully unusual. Men may stand up for them after they were beat to a pulp-but then these same men will go beat other women. Police don’t help much. If it’s normal for women to get stoned for not accepting a hit on in the capital, imagine how much worse it is behind closed doors in a typical marriage. I know not everybody, because we come from a beautiful people that have strong spirits in and out. but it’s not always peace in Paradise.

First, my prayers for those left behind feeling the pain, my you find peace and comfort. And for the departed may they have peace. I have dealt with family violence for over 30 years. Each situation is unique but the pain is the same for each. I have no words of wisdom but I have only found, for myself, that I can only strive to be a better man and take care of those, my family, that I chose. And to not allow emotion to over ride reason and the commitment that I chose freely. Shepherd’s Reign was sung and performed so masterfully that you did not need to know the language to feel the emotion. Well done.

I love how the chorus begins with an ascending sequence but the guitar just shredds it back down. I love this. The emotion just burns in every vein, every syllable. I appreciate that they apologise for the song's content, but wrote it anyway- because it needed to be written. That's the mark of good people, right there.
