A piece of totally useless information. The shop which is now Sainsbury's used to be F. W. Woolworths and it opened on 26 May 1955. I know this, because I went to the opening as a small boy, with my mother, and it was a day off school, because it was Election Day. The successful candidate was a Mr. Gooch, who was the Labour Party Candidate. Don't ask me why I remember that, particularly since I now live 12,000 miles away
