We start this video overlook the great feat of architecture, Barmouth Viaduct, a Grade II listed single-track wooden railway viaduct, built across the estuary of the River Mawddach in Barmouth, Wales. Opened in 1867, this impressive structure has recently undergone significant restoration work by Network Rail, and we see Transport for Wales 158836 crossing the Bridge on the 2I16 Pwllheli - Machynlleth with the stunning Cadar Idris providing the backdrop!
Following a look at Barmouth Bridge, we took the ferry across to Barmouth Ferry Station station for a steam hauled service along the Cambrian Coast on the delightful Fairbourne Railway.
This 12 and a quarter inch gauge line takes you along the estuary running alongside the stunning mainline Bridge, dwarfed by Cadar Idris mountain in the background and along the coast for a short trip to Fairbourne, interchange with the mainline station. We were hauled by an Indian Darjeeling and Himalayan railway styled locomotive, ‘Sherpa’ and had a look around at interesting things on site including a model railway display, a look in the sheds and a wonder round the museum with a comprehensive history of the line! | 19.06.2024
