Not only are they functional - providing a place for your pins and needles to reside - they're just plain fun! They're quick and easy to make, fun to personalize, and make wonderful gifts. I was so happy to find this tutorial! So far I have made two and found the tips very helpful. I needed a white elephant gift using stash and items I no longer wanted. So scraps from a friend, twill tape from a Fat Quarter Shop bundle, added button from my mom’s stash passed on to me, repurposed price tag, walnut shells from another project, and tada! A great pin cushion for a gift! Thanks!

When I made a pin cushion , I used BBs to give it some weight and finished it out with polyfil. I t worked great.

given the statement "cute as a button" made me think you could add a button as a place to put needles just house them in the button holes.

I think I'm going to use the Pellon for both sides if I use the 🐚 's, as they can push through the fabric. Wouldn't have to if using the pellets .

Walnut shells historically are used in pincushions because they sharpen your pins as you stick them in over and over

What is a good substitute for the walnut shells? I have someone with nut allergies.
