Can we finally give Sheryl lee Ralph her credit for being not only the most solid but most beautiful ladies in entertainment history spanning decades , who else for this long ? We talking Dream Girls way before Moesha .....
"Moesha" was never the same after the turn of the millennium (2000 -2001). It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. I'd say that the high school years of the show were more entertaining than the college years. Countess and Brandy may not have gotten along in real life, but they had excellent onscreen chemistry. The show just wasn't the same after "Kim" retreated to the "The Parkers." However, I'd STILL take the last two seasons of Moesha over 90 percent of the garbage on TV nowadays. As for Frank being exposed as a cheater and liar (which was unnecessary) ...I think that by 2000-2001, the writers were out of decent ideas and reaching for shock value storylines to keep viewers' attention. That plan backfired. Also, one of the Mo's college roommates contemplated "deleting" herself and stood out on a ledge in preparation. As mentioned in the video, there was an anonymous positive pregnancy test on the last episode. There were also several other outrageous stories. At the point they started injecting tons of scandals into the show, I knew that the show had officially jumped the shark and its days were numbered. Also, reboots were cute when the trend started, but the recycling of old shows is becoming cliché. Leave well enough alone, and move forward. Is there any creativity left in Hollyweird?
Id much rather have a show that was similar to moesha but call it something different. It could barrow subtle elements from Moesha without being blatant. But I feel that would probably not even be executed right today. The og Moesha had a lot of flavor that would be necessary to have. One of the closet shows to capture the essence of cali life for black people today is probably insecure. I always thought of insecure as kinda of a modern day Moesha without being Moesha if that makes sense.
The decision to make Frank out to be someone who was triflin and untrustworthy was a a huge mistake. I can understand Mo and Myles not knowing but Dee? DAMMMN! Still got me fucked up to this day.
@@lisaray101 Agreed some of the best scenes of the old series came from Real life for instance the episode of Will Smith dad with Will crying asking uncle Phil why doesn’t he want me that scene is so amazing because at that point in time he wasn’t acting anymore he is that boy crying out for his father that wasn’t there anymore A father that used to get drunk and beat his mother and sometimes him and his brother
Sheryl Lee Ralph:still looking gorgeous and beautiful through the years…did a great job on Moesha as Dee Mitchell because Dee didn’t play no games when it came to school and at home…plus could check Frank Mitchell whenever he’s wrong….Moesha wasn’t the same when Kim Andell And Dee left..smh…The episode that jumped the shark on Moesha was secrets and lies and to this day I can’t watch that episode smh….
Me either and I literally just watched that episode on this channel called Dabl via RU-vidTV. I thought the next episode was the continuation but it jumped back to the first episode, so I had to see why and now I know that was the final episode.
As you can see that was not the first time the strong family was destroyed by changing the narrative for whatever reason media and writers/producers make these choices
I starting to think these yt writers are the issue with all these blk shows, majority just always seem to take a odd left turn that's outside the scope of the show. For no good reason either!
They did that same yt writer BS this year on the “Guilded Age”. The black elite family with the self- made pharmacist millionaire. He becomes a hated lying father whose wife leaves him. What’s worst is unlike Moesha, the black man in the Guilded Age is based on real life black hero and the storyline never happened to him or anyone in his family. That’s how we get destroyed if we don’t read and teach ourselves.
Moesha was never the same after Kim left and stop saying the show ended because of ratings, Marcus Paulk who played Miles said the ratings was not the problem and people was still watching every week, Miles said in a interview the show ended because Brandy wanted too just focus on her music career and leave acting behind
@@jmelo9993 agreed, RAY J non acting ass is a show killer...I don't doubt the ratings were good, does not mean the quality of the show didn't go down, that whole storyline with Ray J was just crap.
@@jmelo9993 Yes the whole drama situation made the show become a drama show instead of comedy. Ray J sucked and was only hired of course for the obvious. We don't want a reboot with that whack abruptly ending and yrs later we still wondering who's pregnant and who kidnapped a now grown Myles!🤣
@@jmelo9993 😂 I agree and I like Ray J as a comedian he was funny on One on One, but I hated the Dorian character. Some wannabe thug who was rude and disrespectful and single handedly tore a whole house down
Mo to the…E to the!… Hell to the….no to the…. They don’t need to do a reboot. Like someone said Maybe one episode or even a 3 part mini series and if they do that , they HAVE to bring Q back! A lot of key characters have passed though, so it would feel different
Serious question, because I honestly don't know: What were some popular 'family' shows where they had the WM lead have extra marital relations? And I'm not talking about Brady bunch family integration, like step by step. I can only think of soap operas and prime time shows where there are affairs, but those aren't targeted/marketed as 'family programming.' Even Al Bundy didn't actually cross that line to have an affair.
Abbott Elementary is hilarious, I'm from Philly and literally had flashbacks, because the principal on there was my daughter's principal. A lot of the struggles they teacher's were dealing with was and is truly captured. Even the attitudes of the staff. 👍🏽👍🏽and 🌟 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Imo I think a Moesha reboot should only happen if its made into an animation show. This way they can pick right up where they left off. Complete the Miles kidnapping storyline. Then again maybe mix it up like have the show actually take place in the current time live action, but have animated flash backs that give us closure on this among other stories. It just sucks that Hakeem can't be there to rejoin them, very unfortunate that he had to lose his life the way he did. R.I. P man.
It does bother me when they tarnish some characters. It also bothered me when Apollo Creed had a son out of an affair. I was like really? Why? Couldn't it be a nephew or something? Ridiculous and unnecessary.
Lol wtf Miles got kidnapped? The producers just went off the rails. The Ray J love child thing felt so awkward and weird. Glad I wasn't the only one confused.
It’s been far to long for there to be any way to bring closure to any of those storylines that were left in the air. Had it been 2-3 years later, then yes, but 21? Ain’t no point. Moesha was a moment in time. A reboot wouldn’t work for reasons I just stated & a remake would be derivative.
What's With All The Reboot Attempts?! They need to leave these old shows where they are cause they'll NEVER be like the Old Days. We Can Always Watch Reruns!
@@nadecha5326 Yeah...it's gotta be the lack of creativity. I'm not knocking what they do create or claiming to do better, but leave what WAS created ALONE! 🙅🏽♀️
I was a busy working mom with very young children when Moesha aired and unfortunately didn’t watch the show then. I only watched all seasons this year. I love 💕 it and about to rewatch. I read comments about the show before I got to the last season, so I was prepared. Yes it was odd but honestly, looking at the situation with 2022 eyes, the storyline and the way they handled it was not bad. He and wife were having problems, they separated, he started a relationship, he and wife got back together, the other woman is pregnant does not keep baby, Frank’s sister adopts him but wants to keep it a secret until a specified time. Sounds like mature human behavior to me. Back in ‘90s and early 2000s that storyline was wack but today, I think it aged well. I would like to at least see a movie to catch up on what everyone is doing. A series reboot would be too much.
Let it be. Whoever made the decision to flip the narrative on this black done enough damage. I really liked this show and it’s definitely run it’s course. Peace to the wonderful cast members who passed away 🙏🏾
sadly it's just the era. we didn't get tired of shows quickly back then caue we had to wait to ecen rewatch it unless you took extra steps to record it. now, people wait till a few episodes are out and binge it...then done with it. or there's so many options out there that they watch the new episode, and get fully enveloped in another shows episode while waiting for the next episode. after abkut 10 episodes, you have to kinda recycle stories and now aways everyone think they're critics. look at the many RU-vid channels acting like their opinion on shows matter. "episode 1 review" and they talk for 40min and they think they can only be valid if they find a fault cause they were taught thata what critics do
Ray J already had a recurring role on the show as “Charles.” All they needed to do was give that character a bigger role, and add him to main cast (the way they did for Niecy). It was set up perfectly for the writers, as they had something to work with. Instead, they go for “shock and awe” because they had run out of ideas, and somehow thought that what the audience really wanted to see Brandy and Ray J as siblings on the show too (and that same BS was repeated in “One On One). Frank already had enough on his plate: moving on past being widowed, remarrying, trying to mediate the conflict between his new wife and his teenage daughter (who thinks that SHE, and not her stepmom, should be the family matriarch), raising a pre-teen son; then they throw another curveball at Frank; hiding his illegitimate son in plain sight. Then of course, Dorian (now fully integrated into the family) has aspirations of becoming a recording artist. Very original. By the fourth season, Moesha had already run its course, and the showrunners were trying to do whatever they could to get the show to syndication so that everyone involved can get their residuals.
I think we do need a Moesha reboot because we never got a proper ending because the show was left on a cliffhanger and we never found out if Moesha brother was rescued after being kidnapped and we never found out who was actually pregnant in the final episode I think they need to tie the Loose Ends so Moesha fans can get some closure from their favorite TV show growing up in the mid-90s and early 2000s in my personal opinion thank you
I loved Moesha. I usually don't rewatch shit on streaming...cause I still got shit I didn't get to...and some others I didn't finish. But I still enjoy watching it. I think I'm on the 5th season again. But yeah, it Definitely was a stupid decision...cause that wasn't his character At All. And it didn't make sense, but Whatever
This is how I mentally tied up the loose end in the final episode- The pregnancy test was moesha’s. Niecy gave the impression that her and kim started having sex way before moesha. If the two haven’t had any slip ups before, I think they know how to manage it. Moesha just started having sex and was new to it- hence getting pregnant. Anyway, the season would have started with her confessing and Hakeem wanting to keep it and her not being sure, but ultimately deciding to abort. They get myles back, dude goes to jail and Dorian and his group pop off and go on tour. Thats sounds about right to me. I’ve laid it to rest.
When RJ joined the cast, it felt forced to me. I lost interest. Maybe they were propping the show up to be a knock off of The Fresh Prince series with RJ's character patterned after Will Smith's? Whatever the case, no reboot needed for me. I didn't care for any of the characters after RJ was added and was glad Dee (Sheryl Lee Ralph) left the show. She deserved better.
Brandy and her mother wanted Ray J to be apart of the show so they got rid of the original writers, producers etc…It backfired greatly…Let’s not forget when Countess to do The Parker’s,Moesha just wasn’t the same with her gone. The last piece of the puzzle that made the show complete was gone.Things happen for a reason though.🤷🏽♂️
Absolutely no reboot. They need to leave it alone. Like alot of other comments that I've seen the show definitely did start to go down around the last season or two at the turn of new millennium. So it definitely doesn't need to be brought back now 20+ years later with everyone being much older and in different stages of their lives. I'd be happier with them just releasing the script for us to read on what happened in the last episode. Who kidnapped Miles? Did he live? And who was Prego? The end
NO MORE REBOOTS. PLEASE. these bozos cant come up with something new so instead they RUIN everything we already had and try to bait you with nostalgia. NO MORE REBOOTS. WE DONT NEED THEM.
She’s right about that shot with Frank we was awww he’s trifling like the rest which is wrong there are good people out there they jay had to ruin his positive image smh
I think with the Cliffhanger, I think the one who was pregnant was their Caucasian roommate. If you notice, she has this funny look on her face when they found out about the positive pregnancy test. No one really mentions her, so I think it was her. I don’t think it was Moesha or Niecey or even Alicia. Moesha having a baby would kind of do something to the show as she was the main character. I think networks would do that to a character who they was trying to write out who didn’t have a major role in the show. Just my opinion though. Who knows 🤷🏽♀️
Brandy wanted her stupid little brother in the show so bad. He was in previous episodes since the first season till she bullied the writers to write him in the show permanently.
I swear, they ruined good black shows on purpose back in the day. Moesha, Rock, Living Single, Family Matters, New York Undercover...those shows were mothers and fathers and teachers and aspirations, people we could look up growing up and the producers just snatched all of that positivity away.
I’m so tired of reboots!! It’s so many talented writers out here who are struggling to bring their work to life…Especially, black writers! Give these people a chance!!
I love the show but NO reboot the expectation would be too high considering the show ended over 20 years ago and reboots usually don’t work out. Yes to one part episode where they finally give us a proper ending to Moesha the cliff hanger was not cool LOL!
In Hollywood the Dorian /nephew/son crap is known as "Jumping the shark". Every show in the history of television that's done that has declined in ratings which led to cancelation starting with "Happy Days" where Arthur Fonzerelli (Henry Winkler) actually jumped a real shark.
🤔Damn...was I the only one who liked the "Dorian is really your half brother" storyline lol? I couldn't stand how perfect and squeaky clean Mr. Mitchell was...like a Black Ned Flanders. That hidden son story made him actually seem human and believable instead of a perfect and corny Leave It To Beaver type dad
The only hope any reboot would succeed is if they write Ray J's character Dorian out of the series completely. Such a horrible addition to the show! Even if they were to just have kept him as Moesha's cousin, it would have still been bad. This is an their mother Sonja Norwood's fault... for trying to get her son a full time job despite him having little to no talent.
I really don't see the point of ANY reboot personally! Its NEVER quite the same. If Hollywood needs some fresh ideas they can call me, I have some. LOL It can't hurt that I really am a Writer (shameless plug I know but so what)!! Ijs... 😉 However, I think a reunion might be cool if maybe they were all back together for Hakeem's funeral or something like that since Lamont Bentley is actually no longer with us. Otherwise, the show wouldn't be the same without him or even a replacement. He was a HUGE part of the Mitchell family's life in the show so... How would that even work? But that's just my 98 cents for what its worth.
Towards the end the family dynamic really started stressing me out. Especially all the fighting. Why I need to watch that when I already got plenty at home..? Didn't watch too much and tuned into something more upbeat after all the scandal.
I think I speak for most fans of the show it was the turning point for me when they introduced Frank Mitchell's illegitimate son who was his nephew that his sister raised as her child. It just turned me off to the show and I slowly but surely stopped being a weekly fan I would just watch it to see every other week what was going on and just turn to another station after that I didn't watch the whole show anymore I just checked in until the final episode when I realized it was being canceled I thought it was going to end with all stories being resolved but it ended with open-ended questions
Actually there was an answer within the episodes to who was pregnant it was Moeshas roommate not the white girl but the mean girl roommate Who did an early only fans before it was a thing
Everything on tv now is relentless drama. Family values are dang near nonexistent. That’s not real. Some families have outside craziness that they deal with inside. It’s not always inner turmoil.
I don't want a reboot. Rather like a three day 2hour special where they wrap the series up with a proper finale, 20+ years later. A good handful of the characters are no longer with us, but that would be dope.
BANG!!! here's my contribution- 1) to me FRANK in my opinion was always the one acting like his shyt aint stank, so the reveal of his nephew / son to me added some more realism to that show. 2) granted the show was named MOESHA and based on the main character but i got turned off (literally) when too many of the "special / guest" stars were focused on her. i personal.y prefer shar jackson & countess then yvette before 5 head crashing gal.. but thats just me
As much as I hated the ending of Moesha especially as a kid who rushed home everyday to watch it and having the biggest Brandy crush but still I'm done with the reboots
DANG. Sheryl was FINE back in tha day !!! LOL. Now she's even more GOREOUS than when she was younger !!! I wouldn't mind a reboot. Are there any other black sitcoms on tv ???
Hold up. Wait. The show ended before Miles was returned to the family from the kidnappers? I saw that episode last week. Moesha passedout on the floor. That is how the show ended ??? Disgusting. Disappointing. Sad. This is a fitting example of why i hate tv.
I loved the show! 😭.. the fact that it didn’t even have an ending. Makes me so sad . Like where they able to get Myles back? I’m stuck on who was pregnant… Because I feel like it could’ve been niecy… but I think it was probably Moesha 😭😭.. cause when they got home Hakeem and Moesha really wanted to tell frank something so bad but they got cut off. However, I feel like it could’ve been niecy because of how she was acting up. Like bruh? We will never know. 😭😭😭😭
Nope, no more reboots. Mo was good for the time..we don’t need a reboot. And I’m glad both actors tried there best to stand up to maintain a positive family structure in an Africa American home but of course white media never wants to see that. Not every black family grows up in disfunction or filled with scandals..
I'd take a limited series to close the holes left in the story, like what they did with Dexter but I don't need 5 seasons like Ravens home. (No diss to raven's home, that shit is so childish and hilarious. It worked)
