Prime for prime, one on one, Swoopes probably beats Caitlin Clark. She had a valid point about CC breaking the NCAA scoring record. Is it really valid with all the COVID extensions and teams de-emphasizing defense so that players like Clark can go run and gun and shoot a bunch of transition threes?

Big difference. Skip never hated LeBron personally. He just hated him as a basketball player, and he resented LeBron's diva attitude at times. However, Skip still gave LeBron credit where credit is due sometimes, as I recall episodes on "Undisputed", where he even conceded to Shannon that LeBron has done more for the black community than Michael Jordan has. And, he goes on to say that he supported LeBron's tendency to speak out on social issues. Plus, Skip didn't care if anyone called him out on his hate for LeBron, as he was unapologetic about his alleged hate publicly. That right there tells you he doesn't hate LeBron personally, but he was just hating on LeBron to garner attention. And even if he did, he just owned it. Sheryl literally seems to straight up hate Caitlin Clark for whatever reason. I know because I saw her play in the 90's when the WNBA was founded. Not saying she doesn't belong in the hall of fame, nor am I saying Sheryl wasn't a great player in her own right. But, we need to be honest here. Sheryl had it easy compared to what Caitlin is going through. Sheryl was literally handpicked and placed on a super team like the Houston Comets that were so deep that they dominated the first few seasons of the WNBA. Heck, Cynthia Cooper was their best player. Swoopes wasn't even close to her. And even though Swoopes was a better defender than Caitlin is now, Caitlin is literally better than Sheryl in every other category in basektball, and it's not even close. Caitlin is taking a team that finished dead last season, and she now has them as a potential dark horse in a playoff race. Sheryl just lucked out in her career, so she had it easy compared to Caitlin Clark. I honestly think that Sherly is jealous because in spite even the goat himself, Michael Jordan, endorsing her in the 90's, most people still don't know who Sheryl Swoopes was, and I think that's why she's jealous of Caitlin Clark.

A lot of the best players in the country want to go to UConn. On the other hand, Iowa women’s basketball has been to only 19 NCAA Tournaments and has a 34-30 record (UConn has won the Championship 11 times). For the last 18 years, Iowa bowed out in the 1st or 2nd round 14 times. However, in CC’s Jr and Sr years, she led Iowa to two NCAA finals. Clearly, CC elevated a mediocre college team and her teammates to greatness. She sold out arenas around the country. CC continues to make her team and her teammates more fun to watch. When DT was the #1 pick of the WNBA, did the WNBA all of a sudden explode, like it has bc of CC? In 2017, when Kelsey Plum broke the NCAA scoring record and became the WNBA’s #1 pick, did the WNBA sell out arenas around the country? No, the WNBA was still losing money and the games were not even being televised much, and the audiences were pitiful. Players had to go to Russia and Europe to make extra money. But wait, Kelsey Plum was white, very cute and held the NCAA scoring record. Isn’t that why CC is getting all the attention that Swoopes, Candace Parker, Tina Charles, Maya Moore and all those other #1 picks never received? The hate that we’re seeing from Swoopes and a few others (credit DT for changing her somewhat arrogant attitude) reminds me of when Tiger Woods hit the PGA. The first year or three that Woods was in the PGA, there were a lot of old white guys who sometimes tried to take down Tiger a notch or two, until he kept breaking record after record and drew millions of new fans to golf. When everybody in the PGA had a pay raise thanks to that generational talent, eventually, all the naysayers were silenced and Tiger was universally viewed with awe (until his personal life got in the way). As CC continues to awe her fans and many of the NBA players and commentators, and is leading a talented but young team to perform way beyond what they did before CC arrived, more and more of these WNBA naysayers will stop their petty jealousy and just appreciate CC for what she is: the most exciting basketball player to watch who can elevate her teammates and her team, like she did at Iowa, and like no other has done before. For comparison of the impact that CC has had in her rookie season, Kelsey Plum averaged 8.5 ppg and her team, the San Antonio Stars (which eventually moved to Las Vegas) finished with the second worst record in the WNBA Plum’s rookie year. Now, I’ve become a fan of Kelsey Plum, but I never heard of Plum before CC broke her NCAA record. The haters just need to get onboard the CC Admiration Club Train and stop trying to take her down a notch and stop trying to injure her (I’m talking to you Carter, Reese, Carrington and Diggins-Smith). Without CC, every WNBA player’s standard of living decreases. Follow DT’s example and show CC some love and appreciation. The WNBA and all it’s fans will be better off if we could just enjoy watching exciting and fun basketball plays that we see every game with Caitlin Clark on the court.

@MikeC-hk5ec - maybe you can write the WNBA referee Association & the "commissioner", about their poor reffing, and it being a big turn- off. Too much is at stake .... And Now, the safety of the Player's. The WNBA is shooting themselves in the foot, because they don't know how to run a business.

@@pattibond2342 I am not going to do that for two reasons. First refereeing is a difficult thing. The refs have a tough job to do. You have 3 people who are tasked with watching 10 people. There is constant activity and they have a lot to do. Watch the clock. Count the time in the paint. Make sure where feet are on the lines. And of course watch for fouls. If you have never reffed a game before and walked in their shoes, let me say it is a difficult thing to do. You know how they have different levels to everything. I venture to guess that these refs are decent but they probably do not get paid as much as NBA referees. As such, you won’t attract the best of the best. So leave them be. Secondly, while I am a Fever fan, I have to acknowledge that there are other fans out there. I have seen other fans who watch the same game and feel that the refs screwed their teams over with calls. So maybe it’s subjective a bit from your perspective. There are certain calls that are just so clear cut that it doesn’t not think anyone being objective would dispute them. But the Fever got away with some calls too. Let’s not go too overboard with the bias. My gripes I have with the WNBA are two fold. The hard fouls on CC as I believe there is a bit more rookie hazing and a lot of jealousy out there against her. And my other gripe is the media coverage of CC. If their goal is to grow the game, they need to watch both of these things. If CC gets hurt, their profits will dry up quickly at least for the season. And if she gets a career ending injury, then we will have to see what the future college players will do. But also I think there is an effort to fabricate a rivalry and different story lines in the media and possibly within the wnba as they likely have been told that the CC v AR rivalry is good to grow the game like Magic v Bird. But that was a true rivalry with two truly transcendent players who did transform the game. This so far is a made up rivalry. Maybe CC v Carrington. Or maybe CC v Sheldon (that girl did relatively well trying to guard CC. And she knows her playing for Ohio State during the CC college era. Maybe CC b Bueckers or Juju Watkins. But not CC v AR when you have to stats pad and all the other issues that have been brought up.

That’s the thing lol she’s a complete class act, she’s had many opportunities to go after her critics as well as her opponents who can’t keep her name out of their mouths but she always takes the high road. She’s single handedly turned the worst team in the league into a playoff team in her first year and she’s only getting better but some people still are working overtime to do everything they can to tear her down. It’s just sad.

I thought the NBA would step in when Caitlin wasn’t included in the Olympic roster to protect its own investments. They didn’t. It’s likely they’ll never intervene. And the WNBA Commissioner seems useless. There’s not one thing she’s said or done that has actually sounded like someone who knows how to steer this ship toward success. Say what you will about the former commissioner David Stern, but at least he made tough decisions that set his league on the path of growth.

I had no idea she had the mindset that she has. She is trying her best to push the narrative that Angel Reese is better than CC (she isn't even close) because it's apparent that she doesn't want to give the white woman her flowers. It's jealousy, racism and Swoopes never thought that CC could and would make the impact that she has. Not only with record breaking numbers in views but breaking like 8 WNBA records as well (I really don't know how many but CC has broken a lot).
