Three days ago I had never heard of Shetland Wool Week! Stumbled into it by a chance RU-vid suggestion!! I'm blown away by the makks, the makkers and all the contributors to these fantastic vlogs. I've loved everything I've seen and would dearly love to visit during SWW2023. You should all feel so proud of the content and way everything has been described and sent out into the virtual world for us lucky viewers to watch.. Your enthusiasm and love for your knitting and the Shetland way of life is inspiring and heart-warming.
Claire, you are such a charming host and a wonderful, generous, witty interviewer. Thanks for welcoming all of us to the treasures of Wool Week and making us feel a part of it.
I enjoyed all the interviews with the women this Wool Week and feel like trying to scrape up enough money to come next year! I noticed that all the knitters I saw were using the English style, where the working yarn is "thrown" up with the right hand. I've seen that here (in the USA) too, but I also see the Continental style, which is what I was taught some 60 years ago. Thank you for letting knitters here watch and marvel at the knitters you gathered for Wool Week.
I was in Shetland two weeks ago as I couldn’t get holiday for Wool Week. I was so lucky to have been taught how to use my newly purchased knitting belt by Catherine Jacobson at the textile Museum . She was very patient and so generous with her time . We also met her brother the day before at Quendale Mill. Everyone we met during our two weeks in Shetland was so kind and welcoming. Hopefully SWW 2023 .
So grateful! for these daily updates! Loved today’s discussion about knitting belts - I had no idea that they were helpful for folks with arthritis - this makes me even more fascinated and wanting to learn how to use one! Thanks!
Thank you so much for these daily videos. They are a highlight of my day. They inspire me to learn more about Shetland knitting and to come in person to experience wool week one day!
Thank you for these wonderful videos, I am enjoying them so much and I am there in spirit! Love seeing all the sweaters and wanting to knit all of them 😊❤
This is wonderful. The generosity of the demonstrators to share with so many people their talent and tradition is wonderful. The beauty of all the items shown today was amazing. Thank you for the update.
Have loved all week seeing all of the sweaters everyone has been wearing so well - today thought Catherine Jacobson’s cardigan was another standout - the knitting design and color way just wonderful!
Thank you for another enjoyable video. Loved everything today. Especially about the knitting belts. I bought one many years ago, but ashamed to say not used it properly. Thanks to the lady who mentioned they are good for people with Arthritis. This year I haven't knitted much, so will have to have a root about in my cupboards and hopefully find it. Since watching this week I have bought some 2ply jumper weight yarn in assorted colours to hopefully attempt a baby fairisle bonnet. Fingers crossed. Loved watching the Norwegian lady spinning with a Turkish spindle, never seen one before and her yarn looks lovely colours. Fascinated by the lady in the background knitting without even looking. Wish the videos would continue after the 1st. Love to see more videos for Christmas perhaps. Thank you to everyone involved making videos for us who can't be there. 😊👋
I can't believe it's getting to the end of Wool Week for this year. Your daily updates have been a joy Claire. The knitting belt chat was very informative. I too hadn't considered how it might help with arthritic fingers. I brought one home with me 3 years ago from SWW but haven't given it a fair try yet. Your brief clip today gives me inspiration. Plus my SWW Journal arrived today! Time to get makkin! Just thinking...might that be your music playing in the background of the broadcasts Claire? I get much pleasure from listening to your 'Lasses Trust' CD I purchased from you in 2019 at the tea you were playing at. Thank you.
I learned something knew today! A knitting belt. I just googled it and now realize I don’t have to push on my middle anymore if I use a knitting belt! And for the record, one grandfather of mine was Scottish, had to say it!
Could you explain what a "mordant " is in dyeing, and what the leather bag is she wearing? Also do they have a commune to sell their beautiful products?
Hubby and I plan to visit the Shetlands in April 2023. What and where can we see woollen fairisle products at that time of year. I do so love those cosy, patterned cardigans and jumpers. I am a big (around) lady so I hope you have some largish sizes (46 ish).❤️🦘from Downunder
