Choosing to play Starcraft instead of going to a school dance is such a relatable story. Thanks for sharing that. I feel like growing up on RTS games in some ways made me who I am. I would have never got into software engineering if I never had the incentive to mod my install of Total Annihilation. :]
One of my first forays into "advanced" math was when I was 12 and I wanted to learn how to mod Fire Emblem for the GBA, I needed to learn how to count in hexadecimal, which I learned from a GameFAQs guide.
Majora's Mask is not just my favorite zelda game, but my favorite game of all time, running around back when it first launched going through 50 cycles before finally beating the game, great memories, I got Ocarina of Time for Christmas in 1998 and it helped me tremendously with Majora's Mask because I had thousands of hours into that game so I already knew most of MMs mechanics.

With winning this it's easy to say you made the right decision selling pokey on t13, but looking at the rest of how the game played out, do you think that choice made your win more or less likely? Your blood gems would have been almost twice as big if you hadn't sold him, and you made that big move with brann and smuggler at the end. I just keep thinking if pokey had still been in play when that happened....but then you do have to be alive at that point to do that. Tough call, it worked out, just asking if you think it would have also worked out if you'd ke0t pokey, and maybe finished with higher than a coin flip? Thanks.
absolutely. 100% no doubt. But tbf it's a big difference between the ways people approach these problems. From a competitive POV it's never about whether or not the discrete matchups played out to give us 1st with the highest certainty. It's a question of: "on average does playing this line give a higher average placement than the alternatives." And furthermore it's a question of: "does this line give the highest average placement vs the wide range of possible boards/power spikes we could run into given our midgame information." It's places like this that this starting question isn’t really important. I don't care how strong my exact opponents were. It's about making the best play given the info we’ve learned from 100's and 100's of times in similar spots. Then adapt slightly given this new info. process vs results approach. I know it's a common discussion but it really does highlight the difference in approaches. All of that being said, that doesn’t mean that I’m right about the choice. It’s just that we have 100s of games of experiences that indicate it’s the better path on average. This one sample is a small drop in a very big bucket and doesn’t sway my opinion in any significant manner.
