I'm not seeing anyone else talk about it, but the camera angles in this room are ace. with the angles you picked you can really SEE what your talking about. This felt fresh and awesome and a lot like what I wanted to see from this channel
I totally agree. This was my first time watching anything from this channel, and it was really great to get the different views. I also thought it was a great idea to put the camera mounted to the dummy's head.
Thank you for putting into words what some of us have noticed but not yet commented about - specifically, Skall's creative camera work and use of props when demoing. I've noticed his demos have grown particularly innovative over the last few years. It's a shame he hasn't been invited to show them in TV documentaries and such.
Agreed. This guy is one of the best when it comes to demoing this kind of stuff. He is thorough and he takes camera angles and lighting seriously, and is also pretty objective, logical and thorough in how he does things. Sure he doesn't cover everything in exhaustive detail but that would take way longer and could get tedious. He is well detailed but not boring. Very nice
I concur, great professional camera work! Well presented! Did you have the Hermione moment? ;-) getyarn.io/yarn-clip/f354a05e-934e-42ad-bc1a-a2f971fed6aa#r1UxidPKcwH.copy
@@agoodboy2489 get the upper torso plate and the pauldrons, could be able to make the nilfgaardian version of the redanian halberdier's armor from the witcher
@@zechariahrogers1199 You would be correct sir. I have one and its very nice...except for the fact that the bottom two clasps were sewn on poorly and they fell off after about 15 hours or so of wear. Its great, but watch out for that, cuz Armstreet won't fix it.
holy crap skall the quality is so much more open, a nice room, dont have to worry about people or time, its cozy, its a more controlled space, this move greatly improves quality, i love it,
You look so... relieved in this video! You can even see it on the thumbnail. It has brought me back to your channel by itself (not to mention all the other stuff that also other people point out). I'm so happy for you, way to go!
This is one of my favorite videos you've put out in a while. Informative and easy to digest, with lots of visual aid to get across points and keep the video interesting. You should put out more like these, showing the strengths and weaknesses of other commonly seen weapons and war implements.
And even if you're an expert an equally trained individual will know about that shortcoming and would punish you for attempting it. Just because you can doesn't mean you should
1st video in the new house, Awesome! You can already tell the difference and that shows how important this change is for skall's content. This must have been a real hard decision to make for him but boy does it feel worth it right now.
Okay, the intro deserves a like regardless of the rest of the content. Edit: I have watched the rest now, I love how this is filmed. Fantastic content Skall!
Congratulations to the new house Sir Skallagrim, it’s so much better and enjoyable to se you be able to move and maneuver properly, the different angles bring a lot to it. Hope you find it as good as you thought in your vlog about it, good luck settling in and hope you’ll be able to keep das gud stuff coming
I love the new camera format. It brings a lot of life to the videos and really adds to it. The educational part is as superb as ever, so, yeah. Good job
Congratulations on the new house. Not related to the video but how's the internet in Novas Scotia? I'm thinking of moving there but I need gigabit internet.
The move might just be the best decision for the channel Skalla has ever made. This video is about double the quality of pre move videos. Got me to activate the bell and comment to boost the algorithm.
Very nice set and camera set up, great visual demonstration with her asistiance as well. I hope the move went well and that you both are loving your new place and the area. Best of wishes to you!
The new place is nice and the new style of video is incredible with the high behind the back pov and the dummy pov used like this. Awesome job Skall and i’m sure you’ll make even better as you get used to the new place even of this is a great start with this quality in the production. Molto Bravo!
Badass video. Nice place, too! I've been practicing sword for over ten years now, but never used a shield. Only recently did I pick up a pad used for kicking and played with it as a shield in conjunction with a cheap practice sword resembling a spatha and I was surprised by how nice it felt. It's nice to hear you explaining the pros and cons lime this. Helps to affirm some of my conclusions and feel better about dedicating almost half of my life to two-handed swords. : )
Amazing Skall ! Love the new place. Very happy to see all went well with the move and set up. Seeing you in all that space, camera work, and doing what you want inside your own home without all the precious limitations is a delight to see. Stay positive and don’t give up on your hard work and dedication fellow swordsman. Wish you well, and thank you for all that you do ✊
Wow, you can really see how the movements work together with the space you have now, and the camera angles are excellent for it. Also, your sound is shockingly good in a space that's all hard surfaces, whatever you're doing with that, keep it up.
I really love your vids dude the production has increased substantially in comparison to when instartee watching you keep it up man Sorry if i have some spelling or grammar errors, english isnt my first language
This was not only helpful for my exercise but also for my D&D. I now have the idea of a high-dex fighter wearing light armor on his chest and plate leggings to shore up the shield’s archetypal weakness. Of course most of this would just be flavour but still I love me some historical accuracy mmmm
For once i really appreciate the intro, and i really like the new camera set up. Also i really like the gambeson boots combo,it is a really legit outfit.
The secong back camera is a nice thought, shows the movements that happen behind the shield better. Probably the whole point of it, but still. :D Also the house looks nice!
Congrats on the new place. Looks great and good to see that you have so much room for your vids. I was wondering if you could do another vid using a shield from the late 12th century through the 13th. I think you will find that with the forearm taking the weight instead of the wrist with the boss shield you are using that the movements needed to strike offside are easier. Also, this is just me, can you also go into the footwork and hip rotations that would go along with that. I have been playing with sword and board for nearly 30 years and that is really important in any defence and allows for greater shield and sword movement. I would also like to add in the cloak as a shield, it was used and it had great versatility for a fencer. Cheers.
I would like you to explore a dedicated shield bearer. Some cultures used a person that was the offensive side paired with a defensive warrior. It would be an interesting project methinks.
New house looks great, camera work was awesome. Can I add a big pro of shield which ties into battlefield: parrying dagger and grappling are great but probably not going to help much against a greatsword or halberd where a decent sized shield would still be useful. Also they're way cheaper than armor for good defense.
Around 3:19 you stated that it’s better to keep your hand behind the shield, as it protects the hand. This is true. However even if the shield is not protecting your hand, it can still close off a quadrant, and depending on the type of shield and context this can be worth it.
great video! Happy you guys are in the new place, you can get way more in depth and show us more of the things you mean, instead of just trying to explain. I’m really excited to see more!
Shields are, to say the absolute least, an interesting tool, an iconic part of every culture, and a memorable inclusion wherever it’s included in detail beyond a placeholder/prop.
