Im in here to figure out how to fix a mans vehicle for him. Met him for the first time yesterday and he was climbing underneath his car to physically shift the gears. Respect to him for keeping it moving but oh hell no this woman will fix it for you lbVmfs😲🤦🔧👸😉😁
THANK YOU...with your help I replaced mine (2000 f-250 4x4 V-10) in UNDER 20 minutes!....I paid a little more as I didn't wanna wait for shipping, but WHO CARES?... I DID IT UNDER 20 MINUTES IN A STARBUCKS PARKING LOT!....much obliged
Thank you so much. I didn't know if the end by the transmission just pulled off and I didn't want to break it. After watching this I know it does just pop off. Again thanks.
Thanks, very nice! I was trying to figure out how to take the plastic piece off the trans without breaking it lo l just pry it with a flat head screwdriver
25 years working on my own cars and I have never had a problem with a shift cable or a shift tube. I have owned over 50 cars in my life, all POS $3k and below. I have a 97 Expedition and the shift tube broke and now after replacing realized the shift cable kinked right at the shift tube. Im thinking about cutting it and making a new connector at the end. Only because it's kinked right where it attaches to the shift tube. 50/50 on that idea though, could use some input.
What year model is this? My dad had a 98 f-150 and it looks totally different. On his there was a small plastic piece under/behind the steering wheel with an adjustment wheel in the middle of it that broke. I am assuming I will have to replace the entire cable but was hoping to find a fix. (just in case someone else comes hear looking for a tip on a 98?) I fixed it but don't know how long it will last like I have it now. I just used a piece of wire wrapped around it and a sturdy/fixed tube thingy(don't know what it's called?lol:-) behind it to hold it in place when the column shifter is moved. Only problem now is that the shift position indicator is to the left of ever position, so it's a little confusing about which gear you're in.
Are you referring to the shift indicator cable? That’s totally different and does what you described with a little adjustment wheel. This is what actually shifts the transmission.
Was your shifter really hard to Move into gear and all that my shifter tube assembly broke and the neutral safety switch broke and I think it’s my cable that made everything else break I have resistance from the shifter even if the trans lever isn’t connected it should move freely seeing how there isn’t natural resistance
I sliced open a piece of rubber fuel line hose "long ways" pushed it over the broken sheild part were he said he broke it at. And use hose clamps at each end. Works just fine........
I'm having to change my shift cable as well. I found it easy to separate cable under the truck, and the upper lever ball stud in steering column. I don't see how to separate the cable from the LOWER lever of steering column ( between the ball stud end the firewall.... Please help, Rob
I got mine at a pick a part for 17 bucks. When anyone tries this, if for any reason you have to drop steering column make sure to not let the stirring column just drop. I learned the hard way I broke 2, the hard plastic that connects to the steering column and the cable snaked out through the broken plastic tube.
The one thing I needed to see & you didn't show. I need to find how to work the clip where it hooks to the trans. I don't want to force it on & break it. The tow guy took it apart to put it into neutral now I need to put it back on.
Tengo una ford expedition 97 4x4 motor 5.4 tengo un problema. Cuando trato de meter el cambio al momento de encenderla no entra le piso el pedal de el freno y la palanca se trava y no baja.
Either connect it underneath and move the shifter until it lines up, or chock a tire in front and behind and shift it underneath until it lines up. First option is much safer tho lol
Yeah, I just picked up a 2001 a few weeks ago, however mine had a cracked steering column shift tube assembly. However, the actual issue was the neutral safety switch that goes around the trans linkage, it was so bad, and so frozen to the shaft that it broke the shift tube in my column. My shifter was so hard to move that I could barely budge it.
