Amazing driving dude. I wish I had a kart cause that head to head racing looks like a blast.

Yeah it's quite the rush! It really gets fun when you get a good group together.

@@coltincraigo5007 How much was your kart. What series would you recommend for a person with no experience? Im from milwaukee and have gone up to RA for Imsa and indy. the rental karts are good, better than most places, but nothing compared to a 2 stroke. Im interested in getting into karting but as you probably know all to well it isn’t a cheap gig.

@@grahambronson2153 You can pick up a used shifter in pretty good condition for right around or even under 5k, building a brand new one with engine, chassis and gauge ends up around 12. Also have to remember shifters will be by far the most expensive. If you have never raced, both dousman (near Milwaukee) and road America have good club series. If sticking to club you can keep your budget down. Even with shifters when racing club we use tires multiple full days, half a pale of fuel, and only rebuild top end at the end of the season. TAG or KA100 are some popular 2 stroke classes that might be a good place to start.

@@coltincraigo5007 How fast do you go through parts? My driving style is pretty aggressive and even in the rentals I send it every time I think the gap is wide enough. Especially through the last chicane on the counter clockwise rental track layout. Whats the engine lifespan?

@@grahambronson2153 Really not burning through many consumables except tires and fuel unless you crash. Engine life span depends on what you’re running. I believe tag is like 8 hours on top end 15 on bottom before needing rebuilds. Stock Honda shifter would be similar, our KZ’s are a bit shorter. Top end is very cheap and easy.

Holy crap you nearly ran over that guy at the start

Yep, had a bumper on my rear bumper and guy in front of me bogged in the start. No time to react

Man after running Autocross with a mod CR125 I really have the urge to do some wheel to wheel. After nationals this year I may have to make the jump. Not sure I want to dump the cash transitioning to a KZ though. Hopefully it's halfway competitive as it sits

On a tight track like this a fast Honda is just as good if not better. Only spot KZ has the advantage is top end. Honda has more torque and wider power band making them much easier to drive.

@@coltincraigo5007 I'm just starting to research K.A.R.T. rules and regs. Is cylinder porting allowed on Hondas in Sprint/RR classes that you're aware of? SCCA has a whole laundry list of rules to comply by with weight penalties for alterations, so for my rather plump self I squeeze as much power as the little engine will give me. Or maybe you know of a better league to race with in the Midwest? I'm Nebraska based.

If u don’t mind me asking, what engine do you run? I was thinking of selling my current kart and joining the shifter class but wasn’t sure what most people run in the class

Depends where you want to race! If you’re only racing at road America a lot of guys are running the stock Honda’s. We do a lot of road racing with the championship enduro series so we run the kz category engines. Here in this video we TM10-c’s. We’ve recently sold those and replaced with Modena KK2 which are also KZ

What is the highest speed the shifter kart can do on the full layout
@coltincraigo5007
@coltincraigo5007 4 года назад
tyler stolper surprisingly it’s only a few more mile an hour when they run the little half oval last corner. I think top speed is like 87ish mph

How do peoples karts compare with eachother? I see you passing people left and right but Im not sure if its mostly skill or mostly what youre riding
@coltincraigo5007
@coltincraigo5007 3 года назад
A couple of those karts that got by me because of the problem on the start were 125 tags. The 125 shifter has a bit more power so I caught up on the straights. This is a club race so only 6 or so other shifters, bigger races we go to have up to 60 in our class.

@@coltincraigo5007 6 shifters? At Badger we never get any shifters, and rarely even get a single 125 TAG. Our only populated class is senior KA. We normally only have 7 people in senior medium 206 lol
@coltincraigo5007
@coltincraigo5007 3 года назад
@@brieee28 yeah badger is definitely a tight track for a shifter. Even road America is a busy ride. We get huge fields (50-60+) on the big road race tracks.
