It is really hard! I had a trouble like that when I play the Haydn cello concerto in c major. So, thank you for your post. I'll try and keep practice.

And when I move my hand in the higher positions, will I always use my thumb to immediately play a note with the thumb, or can I also just „move my thumb over the cello-edge“ to make it possible that only the other fingers play?

I call it the "hump" too. The shift to first finger A and then adding the thumb is correct.

These videos are truly inspiring! I would like to know the name of the piece played at the beginning of the video.

Hi Venita, it is actually a recording of Paul Katz playing an excerpt of Ernő Dohnányi's Cello Sonata.

Thank you so much for this instructional video, it helped a lot. What is the name of the piece the she is playing at minute 3:09? Thanks

I'm confused because my instructors recommend keeping my elbow up in most playing situations. I'm an adult student of two and a half years.

I find a lot of instruction on reaching up to thumb position, (and actually a bit about playing so high its off the fingerboard), but i'm now playing pieces that require 12th and 15th positions (if they even have names-the ones over the 2/3 and 3/4 harmonic length of string) and there's no instruction on these at all which is annoying for me as i can't find a reference point on the cello to use other than the harmonic-which i can't use whilst playing a piece.

Total falsch! Total, complete wrong! 11.05.2020. Вена. Проф. Виктор Милосердов.

why vibrating on scales? :))) that's what amateurs do ;)
@indyar8197
@indyar8197 2 года назад
Not true, vibrato can be used to relax the hand because doing vibrato reminds you not to press your thumb against the neck while you’re playing. Vibrato will tell you if your thumb is relaxed and if your hand isn’t tense.
