I start my bg56 on the ground all the time

I've done this to my BG86CE's, once the easy start spring goes once it creates sufficient wear on the spring housing and centre spindle for replacement springs to force their way between the cord carrier and the upper section holding the dogs. Once it's failed it will continue to fail, with wear increasing each time and thus the time between failures decreasing. It isn't a very good design but this fix is easy to achieve and I haven't had a failure since (8 months and counting). Thanks for the videos Mick.

Thanks. I didn't buy that part but I just filled the cavity the spring goes with pl premium. Works perfectly.

It's a neat fix this, I think the replacement part is about a fiver, so not costly and much less likely to break again.

I found a new way while wait for the retro fit part. I took spring out then glued and plastic welded the top hat to the rope rotor.. Now it starts great everytime now

I've got to ask the question, why don't you thread the length of the pull cord from the recoil then out of the casing then tie on the starting tee grip first, and then use the designated recoil cut out to tension the recoil spring???? It's soooo much easier than trying to hold a wound recoil with one hand and do the rest with the other. Incase anyone doesn't know what I mean I will attempt to explain. 1: Recoil zero spring tension, thread cord from recoil through outer casing. 2: Cut to length. 3: Tie on starter Tee grip. 4: Back to recoil and locate the cut out notch facing you. 5: Pull some cord back from the outside of the casing and pull it upward so that the end of the cord closest to the recoil locates in the notched cut out. 6: Now simply use the cord to wind the recoil. 7: Release and allow the recoil to unwind, pulling the cord from the outside of the casing onto the recoil. 8: Check and continue winding if necessary. 👍🏻🤗👍🏻

Hi Mick I was aware they did a conversion one but never used one myself, I’ve actually used one of these blowers for years and the easy start has never failed, if it does I will go this direction. Good video 🙂👍

Or if all the other parts are fine except for the spring, just glue the two halves together into one unit and you're good to go.

Does Stihl charge more for the Easy Start? If so, wouldn't it be better for people to properly learn to use the thing they paid for? Paying to remove a feature that you paid to have included just seems all kinds of wrong to me.

Wow, l sat through the whole video and you didn't show how to change the recoil spring. You left it coiled up in the housing and skipped the part what l wanted to see unfortunately😢. Can you please show how to replace it? Thanks 😊

Word of caution : take care not to let the main spring escape from the housing! It's a right pain to wind it up again and get it back in place!! 🤯

Hi Mick I have an fc56. Little different style. The dogs are on the motor shaft and where the dogs are on yours, i have white plastic gear teeth held on with a screw. I do have the two springs. Any tips on this new style? Can it be converted? Tks
