A few hot takes from me. If MVP beats Garry and fights Leon for the belt they should do it at Villa Park in Birmingham. Tsuruya is younger than me but in his Sherdog pic he looks older because his hair looks like its been done in Microsoft Paint. If Arlovski is determined to stay fighting he should be matched up with people who have a bit of upside, not guys like Buday or Cortes-Acosta. The only thing notable about Waldo Cortes Acosta is that he is a guy called Waldo that literally nobody is looking for.
Absolutely. It's the LHW equivalent of the Oliveira/Poirier/Gaethje/Chandler derby that's been going on for the last five years where, no matter whom you happen to be rooting for, you have to realize on some level that we're lucky just to have those guys, let alone in the same division at the same time.
This was playing when i woke up this morning. I must say I like the calm and in dept discussions you have. I would've loved this show so much better 5-6 years ago when i used to watch every card till 7-8 am and research every new signings, watch every interview. With all those judging and referee "mistakes", changing the rankings based on upcoming fights, Saudi lords and undeserved jump-ups, strategical weight misses, marketability based signings instead of real talent, it's turning more and more to an entertainment show than a real sport, as it was in the beginning. But the problem is; it is also lacking entertainment in most weeks. There will be a month to skip after this card, having not even one interesting fight. I just can't handle it anymore man, ufc was my baby, let me cry here okay.
Tsuruya's profile photo reminds me of the old Simpsons episode where Homer becomes a boxer and in his first fight he fights a hobo "He's a hungry young fighter. In fact, he's actually fighting for a sandwich." The Japanese MMA fighters are coming for that sweet sweet $10K/$10K which basically buys you a house in Japan outside of major cities these days lol
If he wins, we celebrate with a new profile photo! (Of course, I say that, and Marc-Andre Barriault is still rocking a TKO champ belt in his profile...)
As we all know, fighting is extremely mental. Fighters have to have their mind right, to perform right. With that said, how many fights in the UFC, until fighters feel comfortable? I see some fighters have good debuts...but that is the exception. I think fighter's debut fight-week, wears them out. And the 'octagon jitters' are real! Anyways... its crazy. Fighters can keep getting better and more comfortable, for a while. Well, give me Lok-dog in his 2nd fight in the UFC getting the win!... against the 12 fight vet Simon. And I like Simon's wrestle-boxing, too! But, I think Lok-dog is a beast! (@ 12:55 Simon is 8-4 with a DWCS win not 10-4 ) unless Im mistaken. Anyways... Thanks for the preview show 😃😃
I wrote a few comments on different things but lost it. : ( Oh well, still enjoyed this a great deal. As much as I like Pereira, rooting for Jiri! I'm kind of shocked Jiri has the slight reach advantage. One thing I did remember writing was something like: Keith always apologizes pre-emptively for 'story time with Keith', but I always enjoy it. I do wish we got an update though to wrap up the cliffhangers - did your co-worker find his wallet and/or avoid court marshal? Undoubtedly 50 million New England-ers want to know as well.
[ben] If you pool that much money, please spend it helping someone who's waiting for a kidney transplant or had their home destroyed by a natural disaster.
Oh my! The Buday-Arlovski breakdown... What if the pitbull KOs Buday...I hope he goes out on top and the UFC doesnt give him a couple more contracts. 😝😝😄😄 (Buday is someone that Arlovski could clip with some inside boxing) what if... 😆😆
Crazy. A parralell fight... Lord Silva and Air Jordain. I cant stop picking brazilians. Give me the new, hungry, 'up and comer' to win over jourdain. (Similar to LokDog-Simon matchup) I hope he barks too.
Jourdain has become that rarity in the UFC: A fighter who sticks around for years and has decent casual fan name recognition despite never being much above .500 in the promotion. See also: Michael Johnson, Sam Alvey, Angela Hill, Lando Vannata.
I love taira.. but saying rei isn't as fluid.. bordering on objective wrongness? his grappling flow is maybe the best in the world, keeps control in transitions as well as the best in dagestan. taira probably has better standup, but on the whole I'd favor rei heavily, and I say this as someone that has bet on every single taira ufc fight. also if we're talking about something he has that taira doesn't, it's not "mean streak" it's orthodox freestyle wrestling. taira is very pantoja esque in that his traditional takedowns are kinda weak but he just kinda graps on and climbs until he forces the transition to grappling, rei can really take the legs away from opponents on top of exceptional grappling. all love, but I think you'll be surprised, if not on the debut then when he holds the belt.
also on the topic of comparing him to taira, I think there's some fairness to it if you add context, they're not just both japanese, they came up from the same gym, one which rei tsuruyas dad was the head coach of, they're both members of The BLACKBELT Japan which is sort of the elite of paraestra as I understand it. notably there is another young grapplecentric kid in their age range called makoto who looks pretty great too. taira probably won't consider it too unfair for them to be compared, since he trains with rei odds are he already knows.. that rei's better than him, lol.
[ben] Thanks for the perspective! When I said Taira was more fluid, I was thinking primarily of the striking and may have misspoken (talking for three hours straight while working off of very skeletal notes will do that to you) but there's also a good possibility that you've simply scouted Tsuruya more deeply than I have. Definitely come back and allow us to pin a medal on you if he ends up doing better in the UFC than Taira! Again, thanks for bringing your POV-disagreement is always welcome here, and I don't mind at all being proven wrong.
@@sherdog yeah man, I don't fault you for having a different perspective on the matter, and maybe I've just picked up undue bias scouting him more deeply, who knows! taira definitely is cleaner standing, especially recently. I'll see you about that medal in a decade
It's one of Duffy's bands. We use it because 1) Ben is shameless; and 2) we can use it without getting copyright strikes. It's from an album set to drop in the coming weeks, and he'll probably sneak a Spotify/Apple music link in the show notes once it does.
[ben] Speaking only for myself, it isn't so much that I don't get why people dislike him (the ones who dislike him are usually happy to tell you why) but that I don't think it makes much sense. I understand why any cocky up-and-comer has detractors and people who are gleefully looking forward to watching them fail, but in Garry's case it seems especially venomous and personal.
The song is from one of Ben's bands (we use it because Ben is shameless, and also because he controls the copyrights, so we don't get smacked down by RU-vid). When the album comes out in the next few weeks, there will be a link in the description. Thanks for asking!
I love the point you made about Macy! Because she's definitely that "how I see myself, how I actually am" meme and how she's sees herself is a Scott Adkins movie montage but what she actually is is a slow clinch grinder.
I can't believe PFL promotes JBJ and McGregor more than their own fighters on fight night. They have great fighters and opportunities, and just do everything wrong 😂 Anyway, super excited for this card!
You guys have literally the best breakdown show on YT. But. Please. The Lopes Movsar fight was NOT ON SHORT NOTICE. Infact it was more of a short notice for Movsar than Lopes. Lopes was in a training camp. Movsar was not.
That's incorrect. Lopes may have been in camp, but it was not for the UFC or for Mosvar, he was a last minute replacement. And Mosvar was signed and scheduled to fight on that card.
@@uk1914 He was scheduled to fight Bryce Mitchell at that event UFC 288. So he was signed for that event to fight, which meant he was in training camp for that fight card UFC 288. Mitchell withdrew due to an injury during fight week, and Lopes was brought in as the replacement.
@@uk1914 and yes he did accept that fight with Lopes as the replacement. Because he had the option to turn down the fight or not fight at all due to Mitchell pulling out so late and such a late replacement. He's still agreed to it.
@thebreakfastfiles You are missing a few pieces of the puzzle here. And you did not answer my question again. Do you know when did Movsar accept the mitchel fight?
