On a whim I actually used it on a wider range 11-40T cassette as I was trying to save my cousin from having to buy a new rear mech for the 1x conversion of his commuter hardtail. And it works perfectly, perhaps due to that B-axle unit which you referred to as something that resembled a dropout extender. I'm currently using a single narrow wide ring in front w/ a 9 speed chain but I might try a 10 speed chain for better chain retention. For the meantime, I am running a seat tube mounted single chain guide to try and avoid chaindrops w/ the current chain.

That shouldn’t work for 10s indexed road. The pull ratio changes above 9s. Some touring bikes, however, as using 9s mountain derailleurs with Sora 9s brifters. That works fine.
Shimano 10sp STI, except Tiagra 4700, front shifters are compatible with 9sp MTB derailleur. The Tiagra 4700 shifters are not compatible with 9sp or older 10sp derailleurs.
Yes thank you. I may also add that I don't think that 10s GRX shifters are compatible with 9s rear derailleurs also. They may have similar pull ratios to Tiagra 4700.
I have this shimano alivio and 9 speed shifter. The cassete is shimano 10s HG50-10. chainring is a single 44t (mid drive). Shifting is smooth from 9-4 but when i come to bigger sprocket, it a hit and miss situation. It can jump from 4 to 2 and 3 to 1. I solve this by not shifting to lower gear from 3 -1. Not ideal but it works for me going places. Can someone help :- - should i change sprocket or change derailleure? - is it common for 10x1 speed bike with 44t chaingring to have longer links? currently im using 118 links but my chain/derailleur is too stressed on 1st gear.
I don't have a video of the bike the alivio rear derailleur is on. I'm using a Shimano 105 ST-5700 Right 10-Speed STI Lever. It works great w/10s cassette!
I just ordered this rear derailleur to replace my Shimano acera rd- m3000. I haven't installed it yet but the mounting bracket is pointing straight up like in your video but I see other pictures where it's more horizontal which is how the acera is on my bike. Does it lock in that way or does the tension from the chain pull it like that?

My bike is 2x9 but I need a new drivetrain. I bought a 10/11 speed crankset do you think it would work and could I put a clutched 10speed Deore on instead of my old Alivio?
I think your crankset would work best with a matching chain. I have an 11s dura ace crankset with 10s shimano Ultegra di2. I'm using an 11s dura ace chain and the combo works well. For the rear derailleur you need a matching, same speed shifter. I also have an 11s XT8000 crankset with 10s XTR. I have an 11s XT chain and that works well.

It sounds like you're on an ebike. If so they have different chain lines so the biggest cog in the rear may be too far inward for ideal shifting. I'm not sure what you mean by "too stressed" in 1st gear. If the hanger is really stretched out then yes you may need more links on the chain
Si, yo estoy usando un casette de 11-42 y 50/34 en frente. Esta instalado en mi entrenador inteligente y lo he usado en una conversion de montañera a gravel. Ningun problema. Si tienes que mover el desviador un poquito mas arriba pero no afecta los cambios para nada.
got the same idea to put that rd with road shifters so how good or bad work and what model are the shifters? (google say 6,7,8,9 road and mtb are compatible but 10,11,12 NOt)
Mine works well. Shimano 105 ST-5700 Right 10-Speed STI Lever. Yes, most 9 speed road and most 10 speed road work with this rear derailleur. I believe the new 10 speed road (tiagra & grx) do NOT work.
