Got the 2016 Antares DC when it first came out and the Curado DC when it first came out... also used the original Metanium DC when it first came out. DC is cool and all but I do still prefer conventional reels.

I spooled it with 8 LB test mono for lighter lures, gave it some practice casts and found that it did cast well ru-vid.comUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e , except that the anti-backlash setting had to be turned up almost all of the way to keep the "overcasts' ' down. I disassembled it, and found that if I potted some "shim washers" behind that anti-backlash magnet assembly, it got the magnets closer to the spool without rubbing, and I could get better control with about a 6 to 7 out out 10-Max setting. I also noticed that the handle shaft had some internal end play, maybe only 2 or 3 thousands of an inch, but it's still noticeable. If the anti-backlash and shaft tolerances were "tightened up" this would be a fantastic value. I've only used it for 4 days of fishing in a month's time, but I plan on keeping it.
I love my SLX DC’s! For that price point, hearing that “Zing”, means no bird nests! As a newbie to bass fishing, making the investment into the SLX DC’s meant less time messing with birds nests while still practicing casting techniques and more time actually fishing. IMO, totally worth the investment! Great video!
If my black max didn’t get ran over ( flew out of my boat ) I’d still be using it. I upgraded to the pro max and I love it. I also use a few others, but Abu Garcia is extremely reliable and worth the price
@@connorrohman4731 no I didnt :/ still want one. she ended up getting me some sixgill reels the cyclone and typhoon. both are nice reels and have held up well. the typhoon takes a bit to get dialed in but it will sling some baits
I’ve been a 50/70 fan since those reels came out over 10 years ago so I was SUPER excited about the slx’s when they were released. Bought one of every model, slx, xt, mgl, dc and I’ve been running them all hard ever since. My standard slx has been a frogging reel since just about the minute they were released to the public and anyone who knows about frog reels knows they get worked HARD. Still as good as day one...in fact, my last curado 70 went geary before the slx. I really dig this series. The mgl and xt are reels I use next to my aldebarans and scorpions with no issue at all.
I've been throwing the quantum exos for a few years. I went out a few weeks ago and picked one up. I must say I enjoy it. Its become one of my favorite reels. I paired it up with a 7'4" MH bass X rod and it is just amazing.
I love the paint job on this reel, I just wish the more expensive reels used the flat black too. I’m not a fan of the like, silvery or shiny almost chrome look on the more expensive ones.
Awesome. I use my DC(Curado though) for those extremely light lures. I've used it to cast 1/16 lures with no problem. With that said I think the micro gearing DOES make a difference. Esp when casting the tiny lures. However, using regular bait, I dont think theres any use for the higher price

Believe me, if your using a reel with a 21 gram spool for very light lures, there very definitely is a problem. Where I work I've had to refund 3 of them because they weren't casting an acceptable distance and I no longer sell them as a result. Theres just too much inertia in the spool.
Thanks for the few videos you have related to the SLX DC. Made me decide to purchase this reel and so far no issues and absolutely in love with the sound. Even gave it to my 8yr old son to fish with and 0 tangles or bird nests. And cant beat the price I got it for 159$ as a promo price at my local sportsman warehouse. 👍 Nice video! I recently got into baitcaster reels I been using spinning all my life. I started out using a piscifun reel to learn and it was ok but I still am learning and just got the shimano slx dc and used it one time and it worked awesome even for a new to baitcaster reels person it worked great it seems like you just cast and don't thumb the spool only at the end when the lure is going to hit the water and with the other one I first got you needed your thumb to be on the spool feathering it through the whole cast. I like mine for sure well worth getting even if your new to these reels and just want to try one out it's a great reel to learn on.

I started off with the SLX DC when I got my first DC style baitcaster and it was a phenomenal reel for the price, I've since upgraded to the Curado DC and the Scorpion DC and I adore those as well but I still kinda miss my old SLX DC. I found that the SLX DC seemed to cast smaller lures a lot better than the Scorpion DC which has the lightweight spool. If I had to knock on one thing, I think the gearing isn't anywhere as smooth as the Scorpion DC or the Curado DC as you mention.
I got into bass fishing about a year ago and learned so much and was able to buy a few things that I wanted, but there are still a few things that I have a few questions about. I got this reel for Christmas and love it because I am more of a Shimano fan myself. So I was wondering what's the best line to use and the lb test for it and what is the best rod suggestion for this reel. Thanks and I love your videos, they help out a lot!
I've got a little 'early-onset' and having a machine that compensates for what I cant do is goddamn amazing. Its like having an editir for every failure that your thimb makes, during a cast, but not yourself. Those you have to live with, apparently. This thing is to bait casting reels as microwaves are to convection ovens. Satisfactory results are so much easier to achieve!! ;) Doesn't mean that you can fish. It just means that you spend more time doing it and less time dicking around with shit you can barely see, anyway. Or have I just gone full-Harrison Ford?
I actually prefer to run my tension knob as loose as possible without the knob falling off, and the brakes as low as i can handle depending on the wind. Hopefully i still have that level of control with this and the chip doesnt take that away from me. Very hopeful. I am excited for the versatility since i cant run a bunch of different set ups
I got one today. messed with a lot of bait casters at bass pro then once I picked this reel up and tried it it was a done deal. BTW its my first bait caster.
My grandfather being his old fashioned self (which I do value dont get me wrong) made a good point. This dc is kinda new to me as it is him he asked “now what happens if the electronics go bad” Can someone please let me know how well these electronics hold up and is there a possibility it just stops working??
I kinda like the Slx xt better myself I have a dc but I swear that xt is a banger !! I’ve since got a few tatulas and there okay but the Mgl 70 is next for me
Hey I bought this reel twice in the last year. First one crapped out because of the drag setting not working correctly... The whole left side of the reel was wonky... I've got another SLX DC now which is working fine but for how long? Not sure ... We'll see. Honestly I use my Metanium MDG without DC more than anything. Thanks good vid.

I am admittedly terrible pitching and flipping is the SLX DC option good for a heavy flipping setup? With like a 6’10"or 7’ heavy rod. I have a Tatula 100HS on a 7’2" m/h St.Croix that I use for spinning/topwater and a Lews Mach Crush combo on a 7’ m/h that I use for cranking/jerk. Do most of my fishing from banks so don’t wanna real long heavy rod. Appreciate any feedback.

Thanks for the info though I have a question with the gearing between the curado and the slx. If you were wanting to buy 2 reels one curado and one slx 6.2 and and 8.5would it be better to have the curado in the higher gear or the slx in the higher gear ratio
Hmm that’s a very good question. I guess for me I’d want the lower gear on the curado with the brass gears for cranking/power fishing. I’d go faster with the SLX. Hope that helps!
Look at the Japanese numbers in their market. They will pay 600 for a reel due to quality. They value quality over price there. Unlike here we look at price first. Shimano beats diawa hands down. Diawa is a great company so I'm not bashing just stating facts. I would pick a diawa over a lews any day.

Terry, my son has the same reel. We put 30 lb spider wire braid on it and it backlashes every once in awhile. We set it up correctly. I think the braid is digging in on itself. We made sure it was tight when spooled. What pound braid do you use on your reels? Thank you.
Hey there! I usually use 40-65lb because of the equivalent diameter to fluoro or mono. What I would do is get some line conditioner, KVD has one he sponsors that works great. I’d do the tie off to something trick and walk it back as far as you can. Then as you start to reel back, every 10-15 reel turns spray once, doing that until you’ve completed. That should help with any kinks that may have formed because of those birds nests. Then the day before going fishing just give the spool a quick one squirt spray to make sure it’s ready. That should help a bunch and that spray lasts forever, good for all types of lines.
Hey, i'm from The Netherlands and I normally fish with a baitcaster rod that's 20-80 grams. So my lures are normally 30 to 60 GRAMS. Do you think this reel is good for that?
The SV TWS is a very good reel and more refined than a SLX DC...however for a first baitcaster, you’ll learn faster, be more comfortable, and have more fun out of the gate on the SLX DC. That would be my opinion, I say get the SLX DC
Steve Story heck ya! I bought a SLX DC as my first baitcaster. My first cast sucked.... really bad. After that, I didn’t have a single problem. Like I’ve been using baitcast my whole life. No to little backlash and not a single birds nest. And that sound it makes when you cast it.... it’s addictive. BUY ONE
Richard Ban ended up getting an SV then returning it to get the newer one. So far I love it. Had an issue in the first couple trips of a tooth in the main gear assembly breaking but other than that it’s been great
I'm going to ask a very very dumb question. When I hear "micro chip" I hear that it may stop working. Is that a possibility and if it does, will it stop casting and braking properly? Also, after a year of fishing with it, would you still say it's worth it?
DC been in used for almost 19 years around the world and nobody has had a problem with it that i known of. I dont think its something you need to be worried about, this isn't some garbage chinesesium reel.

I like this reel I really do but from what I read the DC chip tends to shave a chunk off the casting distance for extra safety, no ones perfect with a baitcaster and birds nests tends to happen with light lures and opposing wind but really I wonder how much it really helps vs a relatively set up spinning reel. I love the sound of the thing I really do but I'm just debating if I'm shaving 20 foot off each cast for added safety which I might not need but 1 in 30-40 casts. Any input?
THE REEL TEST did a video on just that and was able to demonstrate exactly how much it's controlling line. The auto trans vs manual trans analogy still applies: you can compare it to the earlier auto trans cars vs a very experienced driver with a manual - obviously humans were able to get more out of the vehicle and turn better lap times or drag ETs. In time and with competition, the auto trans cars have surpassed what any human could do and eventually fishing reels will too. This reel really intrigues me. The only issue I have is it’s 150 size spool. I would love to use this for a frog setup but I’m afraid of the line capacity with 65lb braid. I have a Lews super duty G that I picked up on sale, only issue I have with it is that it doesn’t have centrifugal braking. I love my curado k and at the same price point I’m a bit disappointed Lews missed that mark. Now trying to decide to replace it with a curado k or slx dc. That darn 150 spool I tell ya
Stan Halen well a curado k holds 80 yards of 65lb braid with a 200 size spool. The DC’s have a smaller 150 size meaning maybe only 60ish yards of 65lb braid. If you were to get snagged bad or something and had to cut 10-15 yards of line off now you only leave yourself with 45 yards of line. I know with a regular curado I can cast a frog about 40 yards so with a dc you run the risk of spooling yourself. A 7 speed I think has around 28-31” per turn so in reality that far out you’d be cranking pretty fast just to get some line back. The reason this matters to me is I have a couple spots were the mats are thick and extend 60 yards out from shore. I want to make the most of my cast and cover as much water as I can while not spooling the reel or having zero line travel due to the spool being almost empty. That’s just why I’m unsure of the whole 150 size. Gimme a DC with a 200 spool and it’s golden in my opinion
@@benfisher8863 Ahh fair enough didn't realize you were froggin from shore which makes more sense. I'd suggest downgrading to 50# for the extra few yards on the reel and better casting distance(although not enough to wow you at the difference) and is what I use up here in the North where mats/lillies aren't typically ultra-thick. If you're talking more southern fishing where those mats are thick enough to walk on, then I definitely understand. Although I'm only down south maybe 1-2 times a year visiting my brother, I have a Lew's Super Duty 300 LFS with 80# for the exact scenario you're talking about. Thick line to handle the rough stuff and forest in the water and spool size to match. Plus, the cats in his neck of the woods will take topwaters almost as much as the bass so its nice to have a setup to manage them when they connect.
Stan Halen I’m not fishing from shore, I just like pounding the bank and bringing back through the mats. I’m up in MN so I do have a setup with 50lb braid for more sparse cover. But I like my 65 for the thick stuff. I also have a lews 300 but I use that for pike, which fits plenty of 65 👍🏻
I honestly wasn’t as stoked as everyone else. The guys at the tackle shop was frothing over it like Terry, got one... meh. Still unsure about the sound it makes too.
This video made me so mad, I went fishing yesterday wit my shimano Slx and there were these guys on jetskis riding right over our lines like ten feet from the bank splashing us etc. we told them to chill out and then I can’t back frok the restroom wit a note and they threw me and my friends poles I’m the water
@@mrvaj2021 I agree it's a nice blue. But what if someone has a rod with green accents? Or purple? Or red? If they're into having matching gear they may shy away from it just based on that.
