Damn, that was scary at the end! Good job stopping as the other biker took no action to avoid a collision 💥 I just got a new pair of Lake CX332 and absolutely love them. Just cooked them in the oven to mold the heel 😂. Definitely an interesting experience cooking road shoes in the oven! They fit like a glove now 😀
I dont know which i like better, the body of the vid with it’s humor, awesome editing, perfect pacing - or the bonus clips and the commentary. I guess i wont have to decide as they are both in the same video! Keep up the awesome work! I too am a Shimano shoe fan because of the fit more than the “cooool” factor.
Thanks for reminding me of why I consider myself too old for descending as fast as I can, as I used to do 20-25 years ago. I like my intact neck way too much for that...
Recently, after long years on Sidis and few weeks on Fizik (not my type) bought Vittoria Legend leather shoes. These are the most comfortable shoes I ever put my feets on! They simply hug you. Probably not the best for sprinting, but for long days on saddle they are the best I’ve tried.
Just found your channel through Path Less Pedaled comments section.. and well let’s just say your bonus clip and close call section just gives me anxiety! The camera angle and speed are really great though… so subbed! Love your humor, thanks for the review!
@@ridesofjapan zero squeak. Have put 2500 problem free miles on them. Just started riding bikes last year(I’m 54). My previous shoes were MT03 Shimano. They were decent, but nowhere near the awesomeness of the RX-8s
I'm more of a mountainbiker, but quite enjoy your videos. That said, I tried clipless pedals today for the first time. I think I'm keeping my flat pedals. (yes, I fall down four times, not beeing able to unclip in time) Maybe riding in snowy conditions also wasn't the best idea...
i rode clipless for a while, there are usually 2 versions of cleats, the one exit and multi exit models. the multi exit cleats allowed me to automatically unclip when i "panik" while falling down. i use both flats and clipless now, for any serious mountainbiking i will not use clips again. It does feel amazing though being able to controll your bike fully.
I rode spd clips for about 8 months. Gave up. Now I run mtb flat pedals and downhill shoes, no regrets (on road). Clips added nothing for me but were a huge hassle in heavy traffic.
@@Ropetable I believe that only applies to Shimano, I personally found crank brothers pedals easier to unclip and to clipe in with muddy shoes. I moved from Shimano to Crank in 2013 and never looked back. I still ride Shimano SPD SL on the road bikes though.
Shout Stain Remover with a microfiber cloth... magic eraser for the toe guard... soft tooth brush for the tighter areas... warm water.. everything gets soapy... and surprisingly white again... if only i did this deep cleaning more frequently...!
No question. After years on top shelf Sidi’s, highly regarded for their energy to pedal enhancing stiffness, and gorgeous carbon soles, but oh so slick surface for quick pedal engagements. These Shimano S-Phyres with the Michelin rubber mid-soles are absolutely sublime. No fear of sliding off pedals in slick conditions. I have two pairs. A blue and silver. Your beauties are, as you say the newest generation, and are def on my radar once available here in the US. BTW, walking more easily in the coffee shops, etc is paramount, so these shoes work for all occasions. Whether it be on brisk group rides or roads less traveled. Love them. The new secret sauce in cycling shoes as far as I’m concerned. Ride safe and ride often. Peace
I’m all about fit also. Specialized shoes and helmet for my body. I was like, You didn’t even say sorry, til you said HE was on the wrong side of the road.🤦♂️
I can fully recommend swissstop disc pads if you can’t get Shimano - discRS are great and the exotherm also if you need extra cooling for alpine descents 👍 - that’s a beast of a descent btw.
Oh no!!!!!!! The new shoe from Specialized is going to turn your head! It's the latest torch!! AND you don't have to worry about the inner liner turning gray from usage and washing 🙂
Did you find you were able to keep them relatively white ? I need new offroad shoes (Gravel, MTB,CX) and I'm considering the XC903....I'm trying to decide between blue and white....but Ive done blue before.... I'm white-curious, but some people seem to think its a crazy choice...
If you ever fancied a break from consooming new product, there's a lot of tutorials for DIY weightweenie shoes - from adding cleats and a carbon sole to football boots, to making a full shoe out of carbon. All of them are lighter than any stock product and arguably better in many ways.
Have a look out for "l05a" pads. They haven't been officially released yet by shimano but you can find them for sale regardless in various random online shops.
Great shoe for anyone who likes the convenience and durability of SPD mountain cleats but likes the look and weight of road shoes. If you don’t need wedges to cant the shoe, this and A520’s are a great combo, with wide support under the shoe. Adds a little bit of weight but well worth it if you are commuting or just riding into town. That other guy just got off the plane!
Hm, maybe there are not much reviews because you can't buy the 902s for now (at least in Germany and EU stores I checked). I have plenty of L03A brake pads, but would love to get hold of the XC902 in the wide version - and black please! Anyways, thanks for the video. And massive Kudos for staying calm at the end, true ZEN master you are!
Visions of how Matej Mohorič would have felt while descending the Poggio to claim last Milano - San Remo came to mind while watching your adrenaline-fueled descent.
I’m sure there’s ceramic brake pads now for bicycles you could try them, great scenery btw lol they arent as loud as my hopes on my mtb squeaky the resin pads
I have a similar issue but instead of shimano shoes, I am stuck with S-Works 7 shoes, they fit really well and I was not able to find another cycling shoe that fits me that well. I have tried the shimano S-phyre, but they were a little too the shoe box.
That would work for me, the RX8 in a 45 E did not fit me, while I have been using rp3 in 45 E for a while. I think it was the closure system difference, 3 velcro vs boa. RX8 wasn't wide enough in the pinky toe for me. But I have Lake MX237 now, so other than heavy and being not white, I am set for a while.
Cycling shoes... one of my biggest nightmare in cycling.. because I have a bigger volume, slightly wider in left foot, and normal volume in right foot. Shimano RC 902 Wide is the best for me, FIzik is too long, DMT shoes is no way for me(size 41.5 i cant even get my left food inside the shoes, 42 is too big for my right foot)
How is the fit compared to the older SH-R321? They were partially custom vacuum moldable which I love and they fit my narrow feet perfectly. Just struggling to find equivalent mtb shoes.
Just want to let you know that the BOA lacing on the bottom section is not done correctly in either pair of 902s-it should twist and double back over the toe box.
due to availability last year I am running resin in the front and metal in the back. the back is so much stronger.... Will switch to metal after the front is done; I ride mostly in the dry. And I don't like "glazing"? (is that the right in english?) "verglasen" of Resin.
Hi Tobias. I recently had an accident where my roadie jumped off a few rumblers and we both lost balance and fell. A wound opened near the knee joint where it meets the shin and has been stitched up. I intend to get back on the cycle as soon as I heal. Would you recommend some safety gear for the joints? I'm using a helmet and gloves, but i don't know what gear to invest in for the joints. The regular knee pads and elbow pads don't seem like they're designed to take consistent long distance pedalling without losing their elasticity. Thanks and cheers from India.
Sorry mate, I don't have a good solution for that. scratches will happen with time and the finish of that heal cup unfortunately isn't the best at hiding them.
I just got the Northwave Mistral Plus in a 45. Usually im a 45, I confirmed that with my wrong purchase of a set of shimano MTB shoes in 44. So I had high hopes for the NW shoes, how wrong I was. They where WAY to big. I even went to the shop and tried some NW in 44 and could not fit me. So I ended up buying a set of Shimano RC7 and they fit perfectly. I then noticed on the 2 boxes. The NW in size 45 is a US size 12 but the Shimano size 45 is only a US size 10.5. Thats pretty strange.
Nope, that "pass" is open to motorists as well. Usually these roads in the area have copious amounts of mirrors to see what's ahead, but this particular one may not. I only climb it, and descend somewhere else, so don't quote me on that though.
Probably not since they are white, other than that I think they are in the same ballpark… but I have not put them through as much as I have with the RX8, so hard to say for sure.
@@ridesofjapan good to know. My RX8s are starting to fall apart after 12000km (the carbon on the sole is fraying and clearly damaged), so I'm deciding what to replace them with. I'm surprised they are already having problems, but on the other hand I haven't been very kind to them...
Good reminder why only noobs pin the descents in 2022. Too many things can go wrong. If you were going for it then both of you would be cooked from him zoning out and over into your lane. What camera and mic did you record that downhill with? Worked so good.
@@donttouchthisatall depends whether you want road or offroad. I've ridden their top end models. Not amazing to be honest. I ride shimano road and offroad on hot days. Never had a problem.
I love and ride Shimano shoes however for hot summer mountain climbs along with my PZero SL´s sub7Kg aero bike setup: (Tip: white colour version is a bit lighter) Cosmic Ultimate III. PS: I´m sorry but Tipical IDIOT. Wrong side, freezes whilst steering the bike towards the incoming traffic and no sorry or something... Seen this already multiple times and pretty lucky RoJ didnt had a slippery ditch or something and the guy stopped closing the gap.
