I only learned of this by the time I got to mifunashiro... I have completely lost track of which demons I have fused pixie into but when I got to *that* part of the game, I just picked the first demon I had and... surprisingly it had pixie as its ancestor 😂

The deal breaker for me is the price. It looks like the game is not better or worse than the PS2 version but the price is the only thing keeping me from buying it. I'll wait for a price drop but for now I'll stick with my PS2 version.

The whole video sums up my exact same feelings toward the game. Very hyped about it despite the negative aspects like unstable framerate during battles and kinda steep price tag. I'll have to get it on the July or August when I have enough money to spend. Hopefully the physical release is still available by that time because that's my biggest fear right now haha

A great review! i respect reviews that inspect the good and bad in equal measure :) Its a shame they really did't polish the game as good as they should have, sounds like its more a half remaster then a full one, then again, Persona 4 Golden PC port was pretty much the same, and yet that one was only 20 euros... Seems to me they think they can demand full price for remasters now instead of adapting to the market.. I will be checking it out, but i think i'll wait for a sale before getting it.

The first time I played this game was blind on hard mode, one of the best video game experiences I ever had, the beginning though was extreme pain but later it was a very fun challenge I suggest starting with normal difficulty and after you get the hang of the game switch to hard. I love this game and hope everyone else will love it too ❤ (I didn't play the remaster yet)

I feel I need to correct some things. The Demi-fiend was the only one who got a facelift of any kind. Every other character from what I can tell still use the old PS2 textures. And those added effects you spoke of, there are none, they were in the original. If anything, I have noticed that the Remaster is actually missing some. Seriously, Atlus really gave this game the shaft. All of the issues it has alongside the price and DLC's together with Denuvo on the PC ver. Man, they did this game dirty.

Honestly I really have no complaints about this game aside from the frame rate, and price (since I already have the PS2 Version). No mechanics feel outdated here. Skill inheritance would be the only thing but that got patched. SMT nocture still holds up even now, and probably will for some more years to come. And just like back when I first played this, once I buy the remaster I'll still have to look around to see if anyone heard Succubus use a spell 👀

you say you see Normal mode as the intended developer difficulty, but looking at nocturnes game code Normal mode applies a 50% damage reduction to all incoming damage. So even when playing on Normal mode, the game is doing the Hard mode math the devs coded in and then just applying a -50% to incoming damage at the end of it all. That makes it sound like hard mode was the intended dev difficulty

Good review, but the reason that the battle music is compressed is because it's dynamically arranged, and since the original samples seem to have been lost, the only way to keep the dynamic music is to use lower quality samples. Otherwise, the review was great!

Since the frame drops happen across systems at the same moments, it would appear to me it's an issue in the engine itself, and probably something that would be really difficult to fix now. Same with 30 fps, I'd imagine they have it locked there because something else is tied to frames and it would break at 60 frames. Likely movement speed, maybe encounter rate etc.

Framedrop on handheld Switch is less significant because it renders everything at 720p instead of 1080p in handheld mode (Thats natively, ofc there are games like Xenoblade that go even lower than 720p). Its the same with a lot of other games, Zelda for example has less significant framedrops in handheld mode too because of this. It still sucks that there are frame drops anyways, but its kinda good to know that its better in handheld. Still, the price for this half-assed "remaster" is way to much. Its a great game, which is the only reason that justifies this for me. But imo it is a really big bummer that they did a remaster like this, that does not do justice to the game with all the performance issues, OST issues, 4:3 cutscenes and shit but still charge 50€ (!!!) for this.

While I'm super hyped to buy this on release, I unfortunately only own a Switch, and I won't lie, I'm kinda scared lol. I can handle framerate issues to an extent, but I'm over here worrying that the game is virtually unplayable. Times like these made me wish I owned a PS5 or PS4. Normally, I could play it on my PC, but it's been having serious hardware issues lately, and I doubt it'd run at all. *sigh* Wish me luck lol ;;w;;

I don't know for consoles when the game is patched but on PC the game do not drop a single frame and my GPU is at 5% load when running the game in 1440p. So I don't know why the console version would drop frame honestly, a ps5 have a better GPU than my pc with my gtx 1070.

One of the issues with Nocturne is that it doesn’t give the player a lot of motivation to keep going, plus your “friends” are kinda wack. At the end of the day it’s an instant classic and it’s worth playing it, but I do believe it’s massively overrated. Hope you can force yourself through it.

@@DavidCastJRPGs Yea very similar only this time it was a Driver issue with unity. You have to do a Clean Install with the latest Nvidia Drivers on RTX systems. I made a video about it too. People been disliking my video calling out Atlus about the quality of the steam port. I am saying the Port is poor but I think they just think I'm bashing on the game. This is in my top 5 best games lol. Great Review btw!
