Let's face it: this soundtrack is absolutely flawless. It brilliantly revives the oldschool PS1 mature synths, incorporating them into the dynamic and broadened instrumentations of recent RPGs. Atlus composers should be proud :D
I was so skeptical at first. No Meguro? But damn were my expectations completely exceeded in the best way. It might be my favorite OST in the whole series, which is saying something.
Walter beholds his demons to end it thus... Jonathon lets everybody know his demons are a bit different by showing off a samurai skill... And Isabeau would just like to be pardoned. .-.
*looks at graphics* "Heh I like SMT games but no way this one has animations to outdo the Persona series" *Tentus Slash on Napaea slices her in half in slow mo* O_O
you gotta beat those spooky bois when you have barely any SP to spam buffs, debuffs, and heals, and you have demons with weaknesses that make them smirk
It's actually kind of funny when I think back to when SMT IV came out. It was my first time playing a game in the series, and I picked it up on a whim between the Fire Emblem Awakening deal and having seen and gotten into let's plays of Persona. While it admittedly took quite a bit of time to grow on me with its difficulty, hands-off approach to story progression, and sometimes minimalistic visuals, I was surprised how much I eventually came to like it as its own thing even though I'm usually not into the "dark and gritty" thing in games (though in the case of SMT, it's used deliberately for a greater purpose). Now here I am years later after playing through the game a few more times on and off to get different endings, and I'm almost certainly going to end up getting Apocalypse without any need for a Fire Emblem deal to coax me into it.
@@СергейКочетов-о3л like smt iv, but with somewhat better gameplay and a far worse story. Some of the OST, like quest boss battle is still there, so thats cool.
It's a good start point in the series. Not even remotely as unfair as the third game (I guess the third game assumes you BETTER BE GOOD AT THIS SERIES from the get go because a small mistake is death in it) and more accesible than the first and second by being more open about its mechanics. Definitely the most recommended firt SMT to play in the main series.
Me who never played a mainline SMT game before: "Huh, this game sure looks like a very interesting medieval phantasy jrpg" *Synth and 80s rock music kicks* "Oh, I'm in for that ride!"
"Support Atlus via buying the actual soundtrack!" That is if they actually release the FUCKING THING IN EU. Believe me, I want to. They're just not willing.
Beaves460 Dude, I don't even care if SMTIV ends up being bad. I'm a fan, so I really hope Sega helps with publishing the title in EU. Their french branch is already busy translating the game into french, so it doesn't look that bad.
UncleKitchenerSA Well looks you're getting it now with the EU release. Its a great game and I liked it more than FE:A. Just try to get the neutral ending.
TheHornet79 Honestly, I had lost interest in the game, but since it's cheaper, I might give it a try. I heard the neutral ending it a chore to get, but it is an SMT game after all.
UncleKitchenerSA How can you loose interrest in a game? Either you're exicted or you're not. Why were you exicted in the first place, the game hasn't changed in the meantime.
i’m praying it will be since they’re slowly rereleasing old games. plus smt 4 is already pretty popular and it’s the last one left (the others are 50/50)
Mikado - S Tier 0:00 Tokyo - A Tier 1:59 Otherworld - S Tier 3:58 Midboss - A Tier 7:37 Boss Theme - S Tier 10:37 Quest - B Tier 13:46 Quest Domain - A Tier 16:57 Quest VR - B Tier 20:39 Last Battle White - A Tier 24:17 Boss Battle Alignment Lock - S Tier 26:07 Boss Battle Law - B Tier 30:17 Last Battle Law - A Tier 33:37 Boss Battle Chaos - S Tier 37:42 Last Battle Chaos - S Tier 41:11 Fiend - S Tier 45:46 DLC Battle - Archangel - A Tier 49:19 DLC Battle - Masakado - B Tier 53:31
I love how consistently emotional it is. There *is* power... but there is also trepidation, and fear, and an immense love for everyone in Tokyo and Mikado that has to die.
man thank you soo much for uploading this! this is perfect.. especially after the SMT4 Final annoucement hype and stuff.. i actually went back into SMT4 after 1+ year hiatus just to finish it.. now im at the endgame, struggling against that lord of the flies optional boss (u know who)
I just got hit by Isabeu has the same voice actress as Popola/Devola from Nier... My life has meaning to buy a not more prodution 3DS to play this gem and goes adventurous with MA GIRL! Oh Lord... The VA is so good in both games!
My top (using your names) 1. Last Battle - Chaos 1. Boss Battle 1. Last Battle - Law 1. DLC Battle - Archangel 1. Normal Battle - Tokyo 1. Normal Battle - Otherworld 1. Fiend 1. Quest Battle - Domain 1. Last Battle - White 1. Boss - Alignment Lock All the rest are my number 2.
go play a real Shen Megoomy Tensay game... please don't kill me if you like Persona, Devil Survivor, etc. I love those games just as much as the main series
Ain't nothing more tense and anxiety filled than "Last Battle - Chaos". I'm not even referencing the fight, it was easy as hell, but the song is so intense and malicious. A+
Best battle theme ever. I love smt, i love that 4 is a direct of 3....i hate persona..........oh no im not going to turn into a demon am i?........ Eeeeerrrrraaaggggghhhh
+Zoroark “Cresce” Noisulli Is Chemtrail normally a fiend? Maybe I was thinking of something else, but I remember it being a normal enemy in Soul Hackers.
I haven't played much of Nocturne but I've listened to a large amount of the soundtrack, and while there are a couple songs there I like more than here, I feel like this is more consistently good.
I like how each set of songs has a theme that builds or twists the last iteration. A1 and A2 sound the most similar with the switch from the droning synth in A1 to the synth/guitar mix in A2 while A3 just takes the drone and makes it sound haunted. B1 is slower paced and uses synths while B2 picks up the speed and goes for the xylophone in place of the synth and adds in the guitar in the back. It's just a nice little detail.
My second favourite Shin Megami Tensei OST, just after Nocturne. It's absolutely flawless and every single track slaps HARD. It brings me back to the SMT I/II era.
I hate when voice direction goes that way. In an attempt to make the pronunciation sound more faithful, the American accent is all the more noticeable and awkward for English and Japanese listeners.
If there is one thing I love about all SMT games is the battle themes! They are always so badass, my personal favorite is anything from Raidou Kuzunoha vs the Souless Army.
A.1: just gives you a feeling of how badass you are doing your job as a Samurai A.2: tells you how savage the population of Tokyo is and how cruel life is in Tokyo A.3: it tells you to fight on and not think about what is to happen at this point in the story but at the same time you're torn between whether you shoulda done what you did B.1: it tells you to prepare yourself for a fight that will ultimitely end with one or the other dead B.2: GIVES YOU A FEELING OF DREAD AS YOU SOON THINK ABOUT THE HELLISH FIGHT YOU JUST GOT YOURSELF INTO AS YOU FEND OFF SOMEONE OR SOMETHING WHO WILL MOST LIKELY PLAY WITH YOUR CORPSE (MY PERSONAL FAVORITE) C.2: just a plain theme for fighting for someone else (dont have much to say for this) C.3: a fight over something (like a relic) that'll end with one of you dead C.1: a nice smooth song to think about as you plan your next strike on the puzzling VR quests B.3: gives you a sense of drifting away and makes you reflect over what you did or is about to do later in the game B.4: you know you're fighting a dear friend and you see her as both an opponent and a dear ally and you're torn apart because you see her motives and they are to stop you what way possible for what you're about to do... (sad boi hours) Okay I'm tired now ima stop
Can I say that the middle of the album is poetic? Putting Last Battle - White right before Boss battle - Alignment Lock is a stroke of genius. Absolute lack of resolve right before the absolute resolve... Yeah, the video probably arranged it by order of in game appearance, but it works out great in this...
I wish SMT 4 got ported to another console because i broke my 3DS and I've been dying to play this game. You think they could atleast put Nocturne, The DDS games, Persona 3/4 or the Raidou games on the PS2 section of the PS4 store. I mean most of the ones i named got ported to PS3 so why not PS4.
??? As a Nintendo kinda guy, I feel the need to point out that the Switch *is* a "main console" :D Go play Persona 5 kiddos (Okay, not kidding anyone here, I bought a PS3 just for that one...)
@@ashlanders687 It was a combined remix of the Cathedral of Shadows themes and I thought it was a boss theme for the longest time, despite playing and beating the game. Lol My bad.
