Nekomata Okayu clashes with the most threatening kaijuu not currently employed with Hololive. Can she remember to stay hydrated with the fate of Japan on the line?
I took a couple days off to give the channel a chance to crash its views with no survivors. Now we're back on schedule, next Peko Gear won't take as long as this one.
Usually I don't reveal movie night plans in advance, but I did say I'd focus on members that I haven't covered yet for new ones. The next one lines up fairly well with Haachama and Coco's return, so I'll probably be doing Coco's Jurassic Park instead to celebrate. (I don't think Haachama's watched any, but I'd welcome the correction if she has.)

The crazies outcasts being the heroes is a theme in movies, but also in real life. Small, ostracized groups are pushed out cos they "don't fit in", even though they can offer so much to humanity.

I will never get over how much I love Shin Godzilla. everything about it is so good. from the directors deeper stabs at the poorly run Japanese government to the surface level feeling of "holy shit this version of Godzilla is so fucking cool!"

Oh man, everything is falling into place. Kanatan was freaking out on Twitter about Satomi Ishihara getting married and I had no context on who it was, turns out it was that pretty lady from Shin Godzilla! Thanks again for another meaty movie night translation! Okayu, Shin-Godzilla, and Peko Subs are a match made in heaven.

I love how this entire movie just felt like an Evangelion episode, which might be because of how much like an old-school Godzilla film Evangelion felt like at times. Anno was the best choice imo to bring on this new type of Godzilla.

fun fact: hideaki anno (author of evangelion) directed it....and he got his friend shirou sagisu (evangelion music composer) on boat....shin godzilla was, to my belief, “anno’s final evangelion shitposting”

Oh man, Shin Godzilla is my favorite Kaiju movie ever because I think it's the closest look to reality if something like Godzilla does appear. Watching it with Okayu and your edits further increase my enjoyment, so thank you for the movie highlight Peko Subs!

I've re-watched this movie 4 times now and it's still an incredible experience everytime. The best Godzilla movie ever since Vs. Destoroyah, and easily the 2nd best overall since "Gojira".

19:43 I know I'm really late and it's a really minor detail but that's the 1974 poster of Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla, what she's referring to is the 1992 version of Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla ( not to be confused with Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla from 2003) yeah I'm a nerd kill me otherwise one of the best subs I've ever seen I appreciate it xd

Thank you for this! I was really hoping you'd do this one. One problem though: at the end you used the wrong poster when she mentioned Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla. You put up the poster of the 1974 film, but that theme is from the 1993 version.

The scene where Shin godzilla first used it's atomic breath is probably the most Anno thing in this movie. A contrast of a beautiful and somber song accompanied by the damage caused by godzilla as the city is burning. 👌

This version of Godzilla is one of the most terrifying... The power is never-ending and would've taken over the world had it wasn't frozen in nitrogen. This version is also the most tragic cause of each metamorphosis it goes through... Not surprising, given the director also directed Neon Genesis Evangelion.

A felt that when she said she was on the verge of tears in the cinema, not because I was too, but I was definitely gripping the arm rests. Only a handful of films have had that effect on me in the cinema/theatre. District 9 comes to mind, which I also saw on release

I was so excited when this came out. Shin Godzilla released in the states on my birthday and was only available for a few days. We had to go to 3 different theaters to find one with seating still.

I love how they reused sound effects and music from the old Godzilla films from the 1960s. I believe some of the music is from the original 1954 movie. I'd expect nothing less from Anno Hideaki.

@@gnomeam Yeah, as a lifelong fan of the series, there are plenty of Toho ones as bad or worse than the Tristar 1998 movie. I'm entertained by many of them but the only ones I'd call truly good as movies, not just as "Godzilla movies", are _Shin Godzilla_ and the 1954 original.

5:04 I'd say that "awesome" is a fitting word for that. In its original meaning, that is exactly what awesome meant: fearsome, awe-inspiring, invoking a sense of genuine *awe* which can include both wonder and dread. The Japanese word "sugoi" kind of works in the same way, both in its original meaning and in the more casual meaning it has taken on.

There was supposed to be more forms to Shin Godzilla but the film was already crazy. Godzilla can't fight humans as a kaiju so the humanoids forming out it's tail can deal with them but in the concept art, they were supposed to become one being again and eventually Godzilla simply assimilates the planet and eventually the universe. There's a timeline out there where it is nothing but Godzilla
