There were 3 monsters in the video, the lead singer's addiction, the little girl's monster is the grandfather abusing her, and the widow her monster is guilt. Her husband was recalled to service, she cheated, and then he was killed.

Ditto below on the definitions of the Monsters. I've always taken it deeper...as the "priest", who removes the monsters that he's listened to and now has to keep to himself. (The old "sin eater" dilemma.)

You are so innocent on this reaction. You try to find explanations that aren't as bad as the truth. Hiding from Dad because he was an abuser. Sexual abuse causes promiscuity later in life. The woman was cheating on the husband that was killed during deployment. It shows his funeral. She was given the flag that was draped over his casket, showing she is the wife. She threw her wedding ring in with his casket to be buried with him...as if she felt nothing for him. (Another issue caused by abuse.) Your observation was just so innocent. The world needs more men like you.

Her dad, a war hero in public, her dad behind the scenes her monster.. how she grew up hiding about what he did to her... the video of her young, then grown hard to trust n love etc.. because he messed her up.. that's my take

That is not her dad nor is the child the woman. The video is about the fact that we all have monsters regardless of age. The child's monster was the father the resting her, the woman was her own monster because she was cheating on her husband who was away at service and died. And the lead singer's monster is his drug addiction.
