Another great cover by Shinedown. Brent’s voice, to me, is the best voice in Rock today. Taking on an iconic song by an iconic band is a huge undertaking. He did the song justice. There’s nothing that man can’t sing. He could sing the phone book and I would listen to it. But U2 introduced the song, and their’s was the original. Both great!
I met the band in 2009 in Binghamton NY I had meet and greet passes and then a year later they were in Scranton PA for an acoustic tour and they were mingling with the fans before hand and Brent recognized my wife and I and brought us back stage for the rest of the night there
I can’t say that I didn’t like U2s original version. I was indifferent to it. This version took my breath away. Shocked I’ve never heard it. Or if I had it was at a time in my life that it didn’t stick I guess

You have failed yourself and everyone you care about.You have screwed shit up and you dont know who is really for you or against you. However- you clearly know who isnt for you- and thats you and everyone else. Theres absolutly no one there to trust to stand with you. Most everyone believes your crazy and the ones believing that try to make you look crazy-they want you to believe you are nothing more than crazy-Alisha. Although-you do your part and make crazy decisions-choose fucked up actions-you know deep down in yiur heart- why?-No-IT doesnt justify or give reasons to all that you do! Clearly though thats how you handled it. In your own heart-you believe its pretty noble, humble, and compassionable. You as goid hearted as you once knew yourself-cant help but to believe you have more compassion, humbleness, and give more noble reactions towards your enemies than your ownself. You question them all time-why?- why do yall fucking hate me so damn bad. You know you have not done nothing to most to deserve thus hatered they are giving.The hate-the jealousy, deceivable lies and hurt and pain that feeds the hate-it has to happen right.l, in order to feed that starvation of the hate that lies with in them. You've always hated yourself more than anyone and you always made damn sure you made others feel the same for you. Hell- honestly thats what you do ultimatley best- thats all you know- and thats you- who you perceive yourself as and who you became. I'm writting this letter to you to tell you the damn truth- your blind just like them.You clearly believe that your still the same good hearted woman that walked in humility-shy-naive..modest and games of life never were thought of to play on ones lifes. Yeah- you hurt people- caused grief, pain, suffering-destruction, even gained what deceives to be pleasure in doing so on one pain!!!! You fall, make mistakes, you lie, let people down and theres been times you even kicked them as they were down- theres been times you know how mean you were and became!! You've pushes people down on the ground and like I said even kicked them around. You've used manipulated yours deceits to get what you wanted.You've wrong so many- whether in good intentions- bad intentions- but cruel intentions was never in your heart, your thoughts, your spirit, your well being and everything that makes up your character. Your personality was warm hearted-rarley jealous and against others- only jealously derived from the love you had for the love of your life-clearly Girl- you have never known how to love in that way-you couldnt. Back then you didnt know how- you shut yorself entirely out from the world- then it seemed like when you did give in and venture out to let others in you always found yourself crying in tears- in your feelings painfully hurting- cuz another one... another person ran over you- pushed you down to the ground- some even kicked you while you was down just as you have done to others. You some how learned to distrust people before you could even trust them from the begining. You block them, keep them at a distance, but still you in general gave your light- in gave your trust- gave your true compassion- your true kindness and yes you been good to people- humility is truly your # 1 attribute-that makes up who you are- again I say who you are!!! Thats you-Alisha- you've never been the prideful type- if it was shown- bout 80% of the time- humble pride-which made up all of the running, hinding, and giving up. Alisha- you clearly never felt good enough- smart enougn- worthy or deserving of what you so desperatley try to show others. You let yourself down,for the sake of other-you downed yourself for oh so long- really your whole entire life sister. You have self disliked- until it has turnned you to full blown self-hatered. You hate yourself and for the longest never knew that self-hatered hurts- its painful and makes you feel what you never known to be and recognize what is really love! Hating oneself is painful and that clearly is misunderstood by love n hate- that love for yourself has always lived right beside that hate-craving you to see the difference you sont know how to love yourself, but you did it so out of desperation it came out as hate-you were always to hard on yourself, you beat yourself up in believe you never belonged anywhere, with any crowd, or any man..speacially a good man! Girl-its tru- you love yourself more than you know- but you hated yourself more than you blindly show. You think in believe thats all thats left in you- you believe that more than anything Everything you once believed in- you now hate and reject ever so powerfully- you believ the only self power you have left is the power of hate- int eh name of hate- so you never have to feel. This you should know that has been your most sought after question of your life that will key your locked- barricaded doors. You dont know how to understand the actual, physical, emotion of love- you see it feel it as pain and its you thats its after to hurt you, to prey on in give pain to. Theres an ingredience that makes up happines- 3 simple ingredineces.... Love, Joy, Peace!!!!! My ever so lost and confused friend- see love in an different aspect of those 3 main ingredineces and you will finally see, feel, and know the difference between love n hate. You will feel love as it was meant and created to be. Peaceful, Joyful,and above all Loveable!!! Its so powerful it can kick you off your feet- knock you down on the ground- but so pure, so sweet , so innocent that same love itself will pick you back up on your feet in nothing more than what its suppost to bring!!! One thing that I like when bands cover other bands's songs, is when they flip it around nd make it their own. I hate U2. Shinedown took this song nd flipped it around nd made it their own. I think Brent sang it better anyway. Wonder where I can find this
Agree with every you said expect that you “hate U2”.......they were one of the pioneers of “alternative rock”.......but to each their own.....I can respect that
People don't understand Brent & band makes music to help people. Why shouldn't everyone hear his music if they didn't evolve I don't think they would have reached the people they have. They are popular and they get money which they give to different charities. Brent has always wanted to change with each album from US and Them.
