Brent Smith (the lead singer) wrote this song about his uncle who passed while they were producing this album.. his uncle was addicted to alcohol and cigarettes and was judged by people for his addiction.. this song was Brent's way of showing the person behind the addiction and creating a tribute to his uncle
When it comes to judgement, I tell people that are afraid I will judge them that we're only judged by One, and that's not me. We all make mistakes and we don't always know what someone is going through. We all deserve compassion as fellow human beings rather than judgement by those who don't know us. Great reaction as always! 😊
Love this video and the meaning of the song. Don't judge, a broken box can still hold something beautiful. This long part is just because you brought it up - natural burial, most commonly cremation with ashes jarred (you can opt for cardboard box) and often released later in the wind (check local laws, your loved ones don't want you arrested) or buried in soil with a new tree (for my partner a young maple sapling, now a 26 year old fairly large tree). In many states, however, it is legal to be buried in a biodegradable box or even what is called Human Composting (check the laws). Certain illnesses may be rejected from natural burial. My mom always said, "Just throw me in a river" which is illegal. Her thought was "only if you get caught". She was cremated and scattered along a river bank in her hometown (with permission. after she died of course). For me, I already applied to donate my shell to a Body Farm for science studies , which later has a natural burial. Unless it becomes legal to just leave me in the woods.
@@jessicathompson4945 their is a live version of this when Zach just starts playing it. Brent starts singing & he breaks down. Cause of the man he was, drinking, overweight etc. That makes me believe it could be about Brent & Jason. 💯
@@Terri6868 may be now I can see that. I was told a long time ago it was because Jason was having a lot of legal problems from his addiction, which is why they had him leave the band, and Brent was on Jason's side
