I saw a form of building science in a vidio on This old house today ! They were talking about a product previously used to seal duct work! Now they positively charged the house and spray the product and it seals holes! While watching, all I could think was that building science is influencing the big wigs ! Probably because of your influence!!!!! Congrats!!!!!

This is This Old House quality construction! Only 2 things I would surly do differently: 1: The angle iron on the garage floor. It will turn into angle rust. A missed opportunity to collab with Alec Steele for a piece of Angle Damascus Stainless Steele! (seriously, I would just use angle SS) 2: The duct on the basement wall. I would run it at floor level and just box it in. Put a countertop-like feature on the top of the box. Then put shelves on the wall above.

Wow. Nice house and Wade looks like a great addition. Still, stretch tape as flashing vs the great details (and expense) of using copper elsewhere seems an odd budget choice. Just don't think that tape will last thru decades of cold/heat cycles without wrinkling/delaminating.

That is going to be a beautiful house. In California though the insurance companies are refusing to insure houses that use shakes because of fire hazard.

As a coastal house, I would use ICF. Because of hurricanes and floods. Great cathedral idea.

Regarding the vaulted octagonal ceiling, upstairs. The house's exterior surfaces are well-designed to insulate, yet this seems to be a huge heat-flow leaker. You say you'll "cover it." Yet those structural wood members conduct heat readily. What will be done here, to insulate? If this were Hawaii or Torrance California, it wouldn't matter. But Newport RI requires great insulation.

How does "essential craftsman" feel about the build show network? i think he would make a great addition. they are also starting a podcast too, so the interest to branch out seems to be there.

Matt I wanted to ask you what about the weather when your house is half way built. I mean i always think about that, i wouldn't want it to rain on my house without a roof. Does it really matter if it does? Im interested if you have also given this much thought?

Video on retrofit insulating? I've seen how spay foam house can hold heat and cool. Have many family members with terribly inefficient homes. Is there a way to spray insulate existing wall cells?

Any concerns about thermal bridging with all that wood in the 2nd floor of the turret / octagon room?

Curious why the basement wasn't planned for given that they planned to eventually finish it? Also, the two rooms into one - seems like the architecture missed the mark or the owner had a change of plans...

There's not enough detail in that house. Damn, I would love to be the sheet rocker on that job.

just use the 9 inch flex tape for the sills that seam tape is ok but better is needed. also better to use the red zip on windows, the handle the sealing around the line of nails that comes along with trim , or j molding or end of siding . theres your dinner

Matt, I hope you are not phasing out the classic Build Show music......

Good stuff Matt, and Team. The youtube algorithm has been making it tough on a lot of creators lately. A combat sports pro had his account flagged for "selling drugs" which he of course didnt do, i mean he was pushing cans of whoop ass, but not drugs. A science channel got banned for "impersonating himself"... Really the best way to fix this is to move to a pay platform thats cheep enough to keep us all hooked, and has enough content to keep us all busy. The Build Network seems to have the right idea IMO. now if you could only also provide content on; Guns history motorcycles combat sports biology physics cars heavy industry machine work fabrication/ making and general bumblefuckery, i would never need youtube again.

what are you going to do ,backfill over that veneer? thats not reccomended, also in front with your little angle iron trick. just pitch the slab accordingly and from the doors edge out to the face of the foundation chaffe it down that 1 1/2" looks like the blew the grade any way, no wood for 8" looks like both stone and your fancy sweep on bottom are in danger.

I don't get why someone would build a big ass house and only a one car garage. I'm watching TOH and they completely removed the garage and my head hurts trying to figure out why.

I don't care for the angle iron. Looks awful when it rusts.
