This is completly hypnotic!.. and i jump from one to another video... one to another... one to another... and start it again.... i love oxford shoes.. got them in all styles.. and these videos are feeding my restoring shoes adiction..... god bless restoring shoes adiction. THANK YOU!
Watching you polish shoes reminds me so much of my late father who would spit and polish his shoes on Saturday evening in his vest top before going out with my mother , he'd always say make sure your shoes are immaculate front and back no matter how cheap or expensive they are sause it's the first thing people see when they meet you and the last thing they notice when you leave , love your channel, sorry I'm late to subscribe 🇮🇪
You've already won me over, in the last four weeks, I've bought two pairs of shoes (I probably don't really need) I'm hooked on your shoe presentations.
My grandfather worked in banks for alot of his life he would always shine his shoes I actually found his kit with a bunch of old brushes and vintage polish
Excellence is rare form. I would definitely trust u to shine my shoes any day. Those r absolutely stunning. I always loved Wing Tips that r conditioned and shined on a man, just like my Father did it in the day. Definitely u r a great Artist, thank u for sharing!
Absolutely beautiful. Like the last comment says, there is something strangely satisfying watching something being restored, you just do a magnificent job. I recently bought pretty good quality leather shoes tan brown and black and I would like to really take care of them, what products do you recommend, I’m a newby in this. Thanks for your help
New subbie here. Excuse me if you've already answered these questions: How did you get so skilled at shining & restoring shoes? Shoe school? How do you know when to use a certain type of product? I find your videos informative and relaxing all at the same time. You do beautiful work!
I stumbled upon a pair of Crockett & Jones Brecon boots in a local charity shop for £18, uppers in near perfect condition with a slight amount of wear on the heel. Once I found out how much they were actually worth I felt terrible, so every item of clothing, book etc I've donated since has gone to that shop!
Hi. Love you videos. I have just purchased the Saphir products. Can you please advise - when to use the Medaille D’Or versus the beauty du cuir? I appreciate that they are essentially for the same purpose but with different ingredients and quality. However, would you keep both if you could or would you go just for one of them - and if so - which? Albeit I think I can guess.
I need to visit whatever thrift shop Otis you go to lol! All I see are old nike and black Walmart slip one!! I’ve went to 6 different shops in a single day and have yet to find anything slightly close to these!!!
So I bought my first pair of dress shoes yesterday for my new job. Came to RU-vid to see how to shine them, and came by your videos. I am hooked, I told my wife I have found a new hobby. Your work looks awesome and I can't wait to get started! Is there a starter kit you recommend?
Shinny Shoes !!! Can you do a video on your basic shoe cleaning tools and polishes? Some of us would would like to learn and also wear can we buy them. Also where do you get a pair of wooden shoe feet if thats what you call them? Actually I found a nice pair of brown laced dress shoes at a Thrift shop that fit..kudos Btw 😎👍
I'm curious to hear your thoughts on putting conditioner on before putting the trees in. The thinking being to give the leather back some softness and flexibility before stretching it. Also, do you ever use a wet rag to try to add moisture after knocking the dust off and before putting on conditioner? In any case, love your work!
I know you didn't ask me but :P. The answer to both is they don't hurt bot not necessary. A shoe tree shouldn't ever really be scratching a shoe out but simply filling it up and taut. The amount of stress the shoe will under go with a shoe tree should be minimal therefore pre conditioning wouldn't be necessary. However if a shoe is noticeably, significantly, dry (and especially if there is cracking or the starting of cracking) you should pre condition the shoe because at that point the leather has been deprived of moisture and therefore has probably shrunk, putting a shoe tree of the correct size would cause stretching. adding water pre lotion isn't necessary in any condition. If you desire to you can but you should let the shoe dry before adding the shoe conditioner (some conditioners have wax and you don't want to seal the water in the shoe).
No narration... I missed your voice but enjoyed the video all the same. Question: Do you dress the edges of the sole before you polish the shoes (letting it dry first) or after? When I was in the service Friday after work I'd stuff my boots with newspaper (no cedar shoe trees), brush the boot, wipe down the edges with a wet sponge, and dress them. I'd let them sit overnight and polish the boots Saturday or Sunday. Of course we had to mirror polish the cap and heel on our "jump boots". 😉
Very nice work there, Love the rams head medallion, Just a bit confused are these Crockett & jones or Peal & Co as i thought they were two different companies?
The shoes are made by Crockett & Jones for Brooks Brothers, in which they are branded with and sold under the name Peal & Co. Basically, Peal & Co. is one of Brooks Brothers' shoe lines. (I think there may have been an actual shoe manufacturer called Peal & Co. in the past, but they don't exist anymore)
Can you please do a blue pair? I have Clarks that i found for 1250 Pakistani Rupees. I used neutral shoe cream on them but they don't shine as much as I'd like
One inexpensive brand that is Full Grain Leather is Beckett Simonon. Although when I purchased my shoes from them, I received them 3 months to the day that I purchased them. Disclaimer: It clearly states that on their website. Bought them 02 Nov '19 arrived 02 FEB '20. They were $157.00 and are a well made pair of shoes. Another great pair that you can get is a pair of Allen Edmonds. AE is a high end shoe company, but they do offer factory seconds for a fraction of the price. These shoes have scuffs, small scratches etc... Alden shoes is another company that I have purchased from. Great quality, but get ready to pull out your 1st communion money and birthday money combined. Cobbler Union shoes, purchased from them as well and they are excellent company. Finally Crockett & Jones, very expensive but well worth the price. Style and craftsmanship is extraordinary. You will be complimented every time. Try to purchase a good year welted shoe. These can be resoled once the sole has been warned down. Keep in mind the types of leather: Leather grains from highest to lowest: 1) Full Grain Leather 2) Top Grain Leather 3)Corrected Grain Leather 4)Bonded Leather Hope this helps, keep in mind to polish your shoes with high end products like Saphir products. When you get a chance, look at videos of "Cordovan Leather shoes", you'll either love them or dislike them. Best of luck.
It is good that some "well-heeled" folks recycle such quality footwear-especially those fine English constructions. Does it take approximately twenty minutes for the conditioner to set up prior to buffing with the brush? No doubt this would depend upon the leather state. I agree with the other viewer that these seemed only to be dusty. I did not notice you wiping them with a damp rag. Would not this have pushed dust and dirt particles into the leather surface before your treatment? Just curious. It was good to discover your videos, which are enlightening and enjoyable to watch, especially with the background music. Thank you. DJ
i have a pair of black high shine Barker chukka boots, they are almost 20yrs old, would the Saphir renovatuer cream cream lessen the high shine finish of the boots, ive never polished them just wiped them with a damp cloth and buffed them.
Can anything be done about that scuff mark on the toe of the right shoe? I have a 'dull' spot on the toe cap of my shoe that I have no idea how to deal with. 😢
This is a great video, but I like it much better when you narrate the renovation. It really helps us understand things that this video does not. For instance there are cracks in the leather and I saw one cut in the leather on the side. I’m wondering why you didn’t spend any time working those elements out than just polishing over them??? I always love watching, but I just like it better when you discuss the issues and why you will or will not fix them.
How much did you pay for those in the thrift store??? I know that brand brand new is going to cost about maybe $500-$700??? Wowwwww!!! I love your work 😁
My dad, who had humble beginnings and has now passed away, always said, “Your suit may get a little thread bare, but people notice if your shoes aren’t shined.”
I got this same exact model in dark brown during one of Brooks Brothers’s semiannual sales. Probably paid 10 to 20 times what you did for the privilege of owning them new, even on sale. Shame Japan doesn’t have more people who wear my shoe size so I can just waltz into a thrift shop and snag a pair.
Not sure if you’ve done so already, but perhaps put together a tutorial on what the average person should look for when purchasing a used pair of shoes? What tips could you provide on what makes a pair of shoes salvageable. Amazing work by the way!
