If you leave the plastidip on the wheels long enough, they will be a pita to remove, regardless how many coats you used. Also you'll want to be really careful when changing tires, but they do look great! :) Also a fan of the 244, ridiculously good tires for the price.
You know some people actually want the silver Wheels and they can't find silver Wheels anywhere you can buy black replacement Wheels just about anywhere but not silver.
I like the original rear Honda XR650L specific trailwing rear , I'm running the golden boy now & after about 2500 miles every knob is surrounded by a Crack at it's base
If you ever want to try a more aggressive set of tires the Dunlop D605 and D606 are really good. If you do a lot of black top they won’t last as long as your Shenkos. I run Kenda K270’s on my XR which are similar to your tires. The Kenda’s go on like butter. There’s some great tire changing videos out there you might want to watch. Can’t remember the guy’s channel but his name is Jay and puts out a lot of great videos. He’s pretty much an off-road guy but does some dual sport type riding. My 2016 XR just turned 15,000 miles a few weeks ago. Maybe 1,000 miles all off road and the remainder blacktop and gravel roads. I also have a KTM for sanctioned dual sport events and then a BMW R1200GSA for longer rides. XR is such a great low maintenance bike. Put gas in it and just ride.
Yeah I looked into the dunlops and ended up going with these for the exact reason you mentioned. And yeah I like the bigger bikes but there’s just something about the xrs that’s simple and fun!

I’m glad I did do my research though because I definitely got the best tires for my type of riding with the Dunlop Trailmax Missions. Probably the best true 50/50 tire that’s supposed to get fret mileage. So far 2,000 miles and hardly any wear!&
Lol, this video and the confliction you are suffering from is exactly how my life is every day as an xrl owner. They are extremely fun to RIDE! But they are not the perrtiest pig in the show! Idk about you, but most of my riding buddies have very cool, expensive, new , fast ,high-tech, high reving dual sports. Which is good because they don't wrench on their own bikes. Infact I do. I enjoy mods and working on rides. Saying that in an effort to keep the 1993 machine not looking shabby my xr sports inverted crf forks, custom fabricated scotts dampner mount. I have a new CS and 2nd/5th gear mod ready to Install. Probably next year with a big bore and port Job.
I bought that same skid plate for my xr. It buzzes really bad at various speeds. Does yours do that? If so, have you fixed it? I've been thinking of putting nylon washers between the and the plate.
Kaplan America did a performance build on a new XR650L with his master machinist/mechanic with a dyno run & gained about 50% power, then put on an XR'S Only pipe & lost some of the gains
You doing the Pigs in the forest run in September? I will be installing those tires soon on my xr650l. Will be running Adventure Palooza in Missouri come September. The black wheels do look good. Hope they hold up.
