Shiny Gillette Fatboy - First shave

My new acquisition is a 1959 Gillette 195 Adjustable Razor or also know as the Fatboy.
It is shiny and clean. I just have to take it for a spin.

Disagree, gillette twin blade disposables are pretty awesome razors that snobs disregard simply because they're not vintage razors.

I used to hate TTOs until I got a superspeed in good condition, now I'm hooked. I still love my open combs though, especially the gillette new

I have an F1 Fatboy on its way to me, and last weekend I found a J3 Slim in an antique store. The Slim is an amazing razor, so very much looking forward to testing it against the Fatboy when it arrives. Great video Heiko!

Wow fatboy looks very mild & forgiving. Another channel I watch didn’t have such a perfect shave as you did with the fatboy made me reluctant.

For me it is one of the few adjustables that actually goes from mild to aggressive. Most other adjustables already start at a medium aggressive level on the lowest setting.

It’s been great watching your progression in wet shaving. I’m only about three months ahead of you and I concur with your therapeutic feeling when shaving. I find myself wishing my beard would grow faster so I can shave more often, 😂. I didn’t hear you mention that when snugging down the blade on the FatBoy, there is a 1/4 turn past closed to lock the blade down. My apologies if I missed you mentioning it.

Thanks, I might not have mentioned it. They don't all do it. I have a few fatboys and other Gillette adjustables. They don't all behave the same way. My beard at least in sections grows fast, I just don't have time every day to really enjoy it. Thanks for your feedback.

Hello Heiko, perhaps you could shave 50/50 with this razor and the rex so you could com pare and give us your plus and minus on both. Please order some stirling shaving soap, since I ordered them they are my number one. The Kong is a very big brush and will absorb all the soap you've made :) Again many thanks for your video !

Amazing looking fatboy Heiko! It’s my favorite razor that I own. They don’t make them like this anymore. The Slim is right up there with it too. I love Proraso green too, try wetting your face before applying the pre shave. Also the fatboy has the 1/4 turn after the doors close the TTO knob will close another 1/4 to 1/2 turn which locks the blade so there won’t be any chatter.

@@Heiko-shaves Definitely Heiko, yes you wet your face in previous videos, Proraso made a great lather in that Stirling travel bowl! I have the little brother to your brush, Stirling makes two sizes, I like the size of the one you have, but the smaller one is good for travel, excellent brush at affordable prices, no need to $$$ on brushes.

Here we are in 2024 and at 72 years of age I shave with a 1962 Gillette Slim Adjustable using high quality super sharp "Feather" blades. Get amazing close shaves while using imported artisan shaving cream from London. Let go of those expensive cartridge razors and step back in time with an old version razor. Plus, today's double edge blades are far superior to cartridge blades and better than blades made back in the 40s, 50's, 60s and 70s. Instead of several bucks for a throw away cartridge I pay between 25 cents and 40 cents for a quality DE blade depending on the brand and if I buy in bulk or not. I get superior shaves at far less expense.
