A state funeral has been held in Japan for the country’s former prime minister Shinzo Abe - who was assassinated in July.
The killing of the 67-year-old shocked a country unused to gun crimes or political violence.
The state funeral drew thousands of guests - including local and global leaders, notably from Japan's closest allies.
But it also faced a backlash as protesters marched against the decision to hold the funeral.

Hundreds of people participated in demonstrations against state funerals. On the other hand, tens of thousands of ordinary people participated in the state funeral.

It was a beautiful and solemn funeral that lasted for 5 hours, Abe-san's widow must have bowed over a thousand times today alone in acknowledgement of the respect paid to her and her husband. Nobody deserves the loss of a loved one. I respected Abe and truthfully he was probably more respected overseas than he was for the people he fought for.

It's still incredibly shocking that this happened to someone who served his country with dignity. Anyone being murdered is a major tragedy for everyone who knew the victim, and more so for the family. But in the case of someone who dedicated their life to serving their country (regardless of how successful they were; as long as they did it with all good intentions they must be respected), it's a far more wide-ranging tragedy. For the Japanese people who are still bereaved, I send my deepest condolences. To his family and friends, I send them every sympathy for their terrible loss.

@petertrebilco9430
@petertrebilco9430 Год назад
You make an appropriate point. However, it seems the protest may not be at Abe himself, but at the decision by servants of the People to use the People’s taxes to pay for a private funeral. The prime minister is a temporary occupant of a very privileged position, and it is the office that merits respect, not the incumbent…unless he shows extraordinary qualities, which, in Abe’s case seems contestable to say the least. If the People who employ the servant choose to pay for his funeral, well and good. However a choice to use taxpayers’ money to fund a private funeral, without the consent of the taxpayers, is arguably fraudulent. This is less to do with the ordinary man himself, and more to do with the presumption of authority (by bureaucratic servants of the People) to commit the People to a course of action to which they do not consent.
@ssj4brandon1

@lovecherrymaocross
@lovecherrymaocross Год назад
Probably your idea is based on a very Christian idea (or other religions avoiding incineration when somebody passes away). Almost all Japanese people are incinerated since the bulk of them believes in Buddhism. Incineration is not mandatory under the Japanese law, but it has been believed that incineration will bring reincarnation and a new human soul to the demised person in Buddhist teachings, so incineration is not regarded as a religiously bad thing. Of course, the dead body’s flesh is all burned, but other people will remember his/her legacy forever, so don’t worry, it’ll be alright.

According to the police, there were only 500 people at the counter-demonstration. In contrast, the line to offer flowers reached 4 km long, and it took 4 hours to do so. Tens of thousands of people came to offer flowers, and the number of people offering flowers via the Internet, for those who could not make it to the site, exceeded 400,000. 500 million yen to support travel expenses from the police all over the country, 300 million yen including buildings where the police are waiting, and the cost of borrowing buses transporting the police from the waiting area. A total of 800 million yen for security costs. Next is the cost of treating foreign dignitaries. In addition to arranging vehicles during your stay, we expect a total of about 500 million yen, such as the establishment of an acceptance system at the airport, the establishment of a liaison coordination system, and the arrangement of simultaneous interpretation necessary for the meeting. In addition, it is expected that it will cost about 100 million yen as a travel expense to temporarily return the staff of the diplomatic service. A total of 600 million yen is required to treat foreign dignitaries. Finally, the cost of rescue. In order to build a relief system, there is no new cost to arrange an ambulance to be on standby at the venue on the day, but it means that hundreds of thousands of yen will be required when doctors and nurses are dispatched. It is said that these expenses will be used from the reserve of this year's budget, which has already been decided by the cabinet.

Many protests have experienced anti-Vietnam’s war and campaign against the Japan‐U.S. Security Treaty related activities in 60-80s, and hated PM Kishi showed the shrewdness at that time is grandfather of Shinzo Abe. That’s why they also hate Shinzo Abe, Kishi’s grandchild. In addition the number of protests is less than their disclosures, estimated less than 3 thousand.
