I have been wanting to do this since I was a kid, I am now in my mid 30s and finally doing it. Thank you so much for these videos I don't think I would have been able to work out the mast without your amazing videos.

Absolutely Amazing, while you were putting the blue sea, the clear and white silicone in that bottle, and looking at the head size of the 'spoons' as a comparison, i'm still thinking with the sails flat down how the heck the body of that ship, is going into that small neck of the bottle? Obviously i know it does but i'm really looking forward to pt 6 and seeing that ship launched. Stay Safe, Barry (ENG)

Do you let the blue set up some before adding the clear. And again before adding the white caps. My brother and I were given a sort of class by an older member of our church when were 9 and 11 years old. Mr Anderson grew up in Norway. As a teenager he went out with his father, Capt of a whaling ship. Worked aboard ships his whole life. Great stories. He had us use glazing compound tinted with oil paint. When we put the ship, we just seated it in the glazing compound. Had to let it set for over a month before pulling thread to pull up the masts. We both won a blue ribbon at the contry fair. I still have my boat, 55 years later. Chris's got broken many years ago. I recently found this fact out, and am going to build him a new one.

That's a great story William. I love it. As for the drying time, I let each dry at least 24 hours before applying the next layer. This is plenty of time for everything to be nice and dry and workable. If you are interested, I have another ship in a bottle series on the channel where I build 2 ships in a bottle. I use some different methods for the water and the wake of the ships that you might be interested in. Here's a link to part one. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OSxXXiTQmuU.html I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in to the show.

I don’t have an interest in making one, but I found this series fascinating. You did a fantastic job! ps. I was one who thought they cut out the bottom and inserted the ship then re-glasses it. :-)

I have several "old" ships in bottles that were sold as novelty souvenir items from years ago and they were manufactured in the exact was you are describing. The base was cut off, the ship and accessories were added and then the interior of the bottle was painted with a scenic background to hide the fact that they glued the bottom back on the bottle after the ship was inserted. LOL. I'm pretty sure that they still make them like that to this day but it is far from traditional and more for mass production.

Kenny, this is coming along really great. I am sure you will appreciate this, when you have shots that have your shop in the background, I find myself searching for those hidden upcoming projects...lol. I like the addition of white caps, nice touch.

I am always amazed at how much people see in the background photos and videos of my shop. I welcome potentially millions of people into my shop every week via the internet and all I can say is that it's a good thing that there is nothing questionable in my shop. I'd be leaving an evidence trail long enough to convict Al Capone. LOL. Thanks for tuning in to the show Paul. It's appreciated.

1:05 That is a similar tray I use to bake my cookies, I did not know that I can use the very same tray to make sails as well.

How about a”sleeve” of a clear acetate rolled to fit snugly through the neck to protect the neck from the silicone ‘bobbles’ as the hanger/tool is run in and out? Looking fantastic! 👍🏼
@acutabove_woodworkings
@acutabove_woodworkings 3 года назад
That's actually not a bad idea at all. I love it. Although the silicone isn't hard to clean from the neck of the bottle, not having to clean it at all would be preferable. Thanks for tuning in and for chiming in with your great suggestion. It's appreciated.
