Former fisherman here , had similar experience off the east coast of Australia. We were on a 53 metre (170 ft) vessel with 17 crew. No idea of the size of the wave that hit us but it completely caved in the wheel house shearing the footing bolts across the whole front of the wheelhouse from the foredeck. Navy came and rescued us. Respect the sea , respect the men and women who work it.

@@tankiwolf Me too. :) I'm actually from the Hanseatic city Bremen and in my family there were a lot of seamen. My grandfather f.e. was working for the North-German Lloyd. I'm also proud to work in the seafreight logistics. Still a great, great field of work today (if not just a "Ever Given" blocks the Suez Canal xD). Doesn't matter if Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, North-German or Dutch... the rough, but beautiful North Sea is part of our history. In Germany we actually have the direct comparison to the more likely warmer and calmer East Sea / Baltic Sea with bright sandstrands, were a lot more tourists come for swimming in the summer. But yeah, I'm often thinking about the old seamen sailing the seas with their wooden ships, transporting fabrics, spices, exotic fruits and jewellery from far, far away.

It still gets me how strong the hulls must be on those ships. As they plow their way through rough seas, one second all the vessel's weight is on the middle of the ship as they're on top of a wave and the next second all that weight is on the front and back as they go into the troughs between the waves. Weighted down with cargo too. Amazing.

That is a large part of the reason why it is so savage because waves in the water, have nowhere to go but up.

Could anyone with seafaring experience watching this vid provide a rough estimate of these wave heights? They look massive, but I can't tell due to lack of scale.

23 They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters; 24 These see the works of the Lord, and his wonders in the deep. 25 For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof. 26 They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble. 27 They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wit's end. 28 Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses. 29 He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still. 30 Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven. 31 Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! Psalm 107:23-31
