The ship TECUMSEH has appeared at Port Colborne, and is seen docked at the east wall near the MRC scrapyard, as seen Sept. 5, 2023. TECUMSEH was towed in on Aug.29 from Ashtabula Ohio, by the tugs OHIO, VAC and JOHN D (latter two are seen lashed together at 08:16) Given TECUMSEH's post-2019-fire history, she's finally going to the scrapper; note the logo has already been removed from the stack and com equipment has been removed from the towers above the pilothouse.
Also, the scrap ship MANISTEE is still being worked on, and is now down to remnants of its aft section.
Also seen today, is Ponant's cruise ship LE BELLOT, which has docked at the east wall while passengers are off sight-seeing in Niagara Falls. Hot and humid today at 31C!!
(Update:
At some point before Sept.12, TECUMSEH was towed (from where she is shown here on Sept.5) a little farther up the canal, right to the scrap dock. But moving TECUMSEH meant that now the view of MANISTEE is fully blocked. At this point, TECUMSEH is still in the water on the canal side, while the now-hidden remnant of MANISTEE is beached on land.
Eventually - when MANISTEE has been all cleared up - they will tow TECUMSEH again, a bit further into the distance, into the actual scrap slip, which is where MANISTEE has been for s several months, being dismantled.
But, it turns out that yet another scrap ship (the barge Joseph H. Thompson) would arrive at MRC on Sept. 26, and it went directly into the scrap slip, while Tecumseh was kept tied up at the canal's east wall; so it looks like Tecumseh will get several months reprieve as Thompson gets demolished in the scrap slip.
Usually, when a scrap ship is standing at the canal wall, as Tecumseh still is, they can nevertheless start removing smaller parts and doing certain preparations before the ship is later moved to the scrap slip.
Also, it turns out these Sept.5 photos of MANISTEE under scrap are the last ones I was able to get before the view was blocked by Tecumseh)
