The rainwater collection is getting an upgrade with a new tank e-book - www.buildshippi... e-book - www.buildshippingcontainerhouse.com Blog - www.containerhouse.wordpress.com
Maybe one day you'll see how many tanks you'll need for a full year or so. Awesome troubleshooting!...... I want to move off!!!!! You doing great!... So when are you going to paint? (I know it's not necessary) You are dong fabulous bro!
+Zack Gates Hi Zack, thankyou for the encouragement. Painting will come eventually, but it is still lower than a few other activities. We are down to a third full now but it is rainy at the moment. Cheers Paul
+dark matter Hi DM, Longer LOL. I spend ages cutting them to make them shorter so they are not long and boring. Sneak previews. Hmmm. I have the finishings in the kitchen. Power points, facings, skirting, trim etc. I want to do a filmmaking episode. I am currently working like a lunatic to finish writing book 2. I have a great video to post when that task is ready. I want to start a regular bushlife spot, whats going on in the bush etc. Sarah wants a room in the storage container and another cage and another chicken shed. There are a lot of unanswered questions from the Q&A. I want to paint the containers, film it with a drone, make a doco for Kirsten. So something in that list is likely to make it onto the channel. Cheers Paul
lol your a busy man look forward to it buddy you do great videos thats why i said longer videos would be great but hay what ever your comfortable with thanks for your time in comments back to me i really loved what you did in your kitchen it looks so nice hope you dont get sick of videos cause that would suck i have learned alot watching you
I keep wishing you had a couple of young rugby players about the place to help you with the shoveling and heavy lifting. But that would mean keeping vats of beer on hand. So maybe not.
+Abraham Acosta Hi Abraham, We do not have a mains sewer at the top of the mountain. Nor do we have a septic tank. We collect our own water from rainfall and it is a valuable commodity that we are careful with. We have a composting loo that does not require flushing and thus not waste lots of water. We tried a commercial freestanding composting loo and did not like it. We switched to a double bucket. This separates liquid from solids with no intervention. The liquid is collected and can be disposed of by taking down the mountain, or the bananas thrive on 50% liquid and water. Citrus like the same mix. The solids are emptied into a 150 litre composting bin. When its full we start a second 150 litre bin. When the second is full the first one has composted and we have fresh soil for the garden. We add worms once the mix has enough matter and nature takes care of it. We add our vegetable scraps to the mix, and if it looks like it is drying out, we add some water to keep the compost healthy. All our waste product is treated within a few paces of the house and there is no smell. It just looks like a garden composter. After 3.5 years of operation it is highly successful. Emptying the loo is similar to emptying an office waste paper basket. The advantage of the bucket loo is that it is regularly emptied (once a week) and is disinfected. Our bathroom is as sweet smelling as any one else’s. Ours just generates soil for the garden and the trees. A septic tank costs 6k and requires an obscene amount of water. Our bucket loo was $16 and two $39 black plastic 150 litre composting bells. I hope that answers your question. Cheers Paul
+Ahmad Zakuan Abdullah I used to have a water tank on the roof. I took it down to make space for solar panels. Pumping uphill to the storage tanks gives me gravity feed for topping up. Cheers Paul
do you have a creek on your lot? i use a ram pump to pump unlimited water from a creek on my property over 900ft to the storage tank that i built up on a rack at nearly its max pump height, so i can use gravity to flow the water elsewhere...
+storxusmc I dragged my containers to the TOP of the mountain. No creek for me. I have seen the ram pump and would love one. but no moving water. Cheers Paul
+petranilla14 I quite agree. The pond is ok. unfortunately the bullrushes are taking over and I am not sure how to stop it. I am waiting for a day to climb in and see if I can pull them out.
