@CodieSanchezCT Holy shit I normally have to watch 10-15 videos before I subscribe to a channel... I have seen this one and the Garbage truck start up you did a couple days ago... The ode to Ace Ventura made me INSTANTLY hit the subscribe button. Also would 100% love to see what you can do with one of these for Air BnB. I live in the panhandle so that was one of my first thoughts when the video started!
@@vd.s6158 Hmm It CLEARLY states that it is free... how that ends up only Codie knows but for now you are jumping the gun specially with the information provided clearly stating the opposite of what you are saying.
It's sad how difficult things have become in the present generation. I was wondering how to utilise some money I had. I used some of it for e-commerce business, but that sank. I'm thinking of how to use what's left to invest, but I don't really know which way to go.
I understand how you feel. It's a little bit difficult to navigate things these days. You don't wanna lose whatever is left. I may suggest that you find a financial advisor who could give you thorough advice on how to go if you want to go the investment route. Also, the fact your business failed doesn't mean you should give up.
That's right. I have tried many failed businesses and it's just a step further. Don't despair. But to add, if you do decide to use a financial advisor, it's best you use someone who understands your special needs and can work with you. I learnt this from experience before finally finding one I can stick with. Now I make six figures from my investments alone, and even more from my businesses.
Read the google reviews for Bob's container's, it's horrific. they do not meet deadlines, will not pick up their phones, and the homes are not livable according to one person due to ventilation and condensation issues. I was all in on this until I saw that.
Just verified- True. One person said reviews were deleted, then went on to saying: " When my build was finally done, they then wanted 75% more than the formally agreed upon price. I had to take them to court and bc Texas is backwards, the judge said that they only wanted to make me “whole.” By returning my deposit. "
One thing to keep in mind, is online reviews versus litigation and BB ratings. While I don't doubt his business is free of complaints, people go out of their way to shout from the online heaven's of google and yelp reviews while being 1000% in the wrong and playing victim more than ever. Delays may have been advised to the client or a direct result of the client changing plans things last minute etc. Likewise the clients lack of investigation to city/county/state compliance for their build PRIOR to placing the order. Again not saying this business 100% on the up and up, but way to many professional victims on the internet because they get thier feelings hurt in 2020's. So you have to research reviewers as much as the company anymore.
The conversation on SOPs won my heart. I am one of my few who enjoys making SOPs, job aids, instructional manuals, etc. I love to see a company that understands the importance of developing them.

You have missed the most important part of every building. The foundation! Are they providing temporary footing for the containers? Which means they gotta be replaced in 10 years or so...OR they expect owners to come up with temporary/permanent footing, which means they need get structural engineer involved.
@@RiRi-ku6xz You can't just put these or any container or storage on dirt/soil and start using them. They need to have foundation like any other structure you see out there. What part of my comment is not clear?
That would be a great video. Maybe Bob or Codi could do a delivery and setup video. The city or county code would most likely determine the foundation options based on the lot and the structure. The Structural engineer would give you the foundation solution.
From this point , they could go two routes other than continuing to be consistent just the way they are : 1 . Micro ; OR 2 . Macro . Macro is wholesaling the bare containers . Micro is variable . I see 3 main options with Micro : 1 . Single Person Luxury ; 2 . Maximum occupancy for Single Units ; OR 3 . Maximum occupancy for Multiple Units .
Their competitor Compact Living has much better pricing and products, including tiny homes. We bought one from Compact Living last year for my mom to live in our backyard as a casita.
Well executed and very informal video. It's absolutely amazing what you can do with the containers. Virtually no overhead, built to scale and specifications, and customizable in almost every environment with ubiquitous potential. Im excited to buy one myself
Doesn't always work this easy. Not many places allow for somebody to just place a container home in a lot. You'd either have to build a home first or do it under the table
What do you mean don’t allow this? Who? Know your rights and exercise them! If you don’t know your constitutional rights and the extent of liberty to live in freedom, then no one will give it to you. Your rights aren’t given, their a way of life.
@@annag5642 not everywhere do they allow to this. There is permits involved. The county rules over the people. U essentially live on their land. Even if you pay off your debt u still have property taxes and if you're hooked up to sewage and water then u have to pay that as well. Not too mention electricity. Regardless, in the end u always hav to pay.. I agree with u. It is sad
Hey Codie! I’m actually in the process of rolling out my own Airbnb development properties that utilize individual renovated shipping containers and focus on elevated essential architecture + indoor outdoor living. And I will be buying my units from Bob’s as they are definitely the industry standard at this point . As an Architect, Builder & entrepreneur, I’d love to help you design your container since I already have designs down for one bedroom and two bedroom units using 20 foot and 40 foot containers. My company is SA+C Inc. Follow along all you container fans out there
Indeed Bob is a great guy with a high mentality. They're diverse ways and strategies to get the bag in the world of today, you just have to have the right mindset to be able to think outside the box.
They’re not accounting for so many costs. Site work? Permits? Trenching? Backfill? Electrical panel upgrades? Water runs? Sewer runs? Electric runs? Container homes are not that much more cost effective than traditional construction and the exit cost will f**k you. You’ll lose money on these homes whereas traditional construction you’ll make money. These are a complete piece of sh*t. A lot of municipalities won’t allow these and lenders won’t touch it. $15M sounds like a lot, but not in spaces like these when you’re selling $200k products. I sold $3M in ADUs in the last 4 weeks.
@@chrismay2298 that’s exactly the problem. There are 25 better alternatives that are nicer and just as much when you account for everything, but those companies handle everything. The consumer I’ll end up spending $200k when it’s all said and done for a piece of crap.
I haven't watched the whole video but I hoped they mentioned that you have to check with wherever you are buying your land and the laws especially zoning. City and county may vary and even your state may have laws in place where *you cannot build something like this on purchased land*. Even if you do buy you may have to pay big fees for permitting and wait a whole lot of time to be approved by authorities to build something like this on your land.
as a licensed engineer in the building space, containers are an interesting idea. The HVAC related concerns bother me though considering thermal conductivity cheap house, expensive bills?
The problem here is that shipping containers make for horrible houses. A solid metal shell invites all kinds of issues with condensation. And once you start cutting into it, the container quickly loses strength. Much like an eggshell. In the long term, you are better off just building the frame out of proper construction materials.
Sounds great, but I doubt a lot of cities would allow this. We're currently building an ADU and it has been quite the process with the city. The city has it's own regulations on how the ADU needs to be built so the building and safety inspector comes to make sure everything is up to code, then it's electrical and plumbing inspectors with their own regulations. It's not easy.
Bob's innovative approach to recycling shipping containers into homes and bars is not just sustainable but also financially savvy. It's inspiring to see how leveraging media exposure can significantly boost business growth and market presence. 🚀
In Italy people live in containers after earthquakes destroied their houses. In Italy the container home is looked at like living in caravans, the cheap ones. Refugees also live in containers here. And for italian building laws they are too small and precarious to be enabled to became proper houses to be sold on the market
I just bought 2 of these online. Not to make homes or flip the.. I Bought one for a barn/milking house for my goats. And the other for a walk in freezer to hang and age beef
Most people will not pay that much, apparently he found enough to do well, financing them was a big help but then that just makes the price even higher. WOW! I'm very surprised he has done so well and getting such high prices. An Earthship would be a much greater value and you would get a much greater product, the container homes may be finished a lot faster. AirBNB's are not a good value , they supposedly use to be a much cheaper place to stay but now they are marketing them specialty vacation rentals and the price has gone through the roof so its just a matter of time before they're out of business unless they go back to what they started out as.
#4 and #5 at 22:30 were so interesting to see. A physical representation of productization and taking customer feedback and turning it into a productized process. Interesting video!
Definitely Codie, buy a few containers and some land. Set them up as Air bnbs for a grand video. Also a giveaway of a small lot with a one of these containers on it would be awesome!!
If you use a used container, see the oak floor and think, wow this will refinish nice. STOP ! remember, these containers are meant to be used for years, the chemicals used to seal and protect that floor are massively dangerous. Loading or unloading does not put you inside for too long, but to live in it....I would not. Oh, did i forget to mention, do you know what products have been shipped in those containers ? The list of HAZmat materials/products that get shipped is staggering. Using containers just for sheds, well, i would keep both doors open and cut a fanhole, medium size, to turn on for air flow as you are messing around in them. fyi, i have been in the trucking/transportation business for 40 years
Was excited for this but am concerned with Bob's company's Google Reviews w/some issues recently thru the past year on there. Seems the notoriety has brought demand that they're not quite able to fully handle, esp. For multi unit orders or swamped with sharp order spikes. Would tread with caution. All should do their own research/due diligence. I think their biz model worked best pre and beginning of pandemic time, but lately with so much demand in a bad housing/building market, the cracks may be beginning to show.
This is a great idea. Tooo bad Affordable housing like this would NEVER catch on in States like CA, OR, or WA where they are hell bent to spend $800K per person on an affordable place.
Definately Codie I think you should buy one, AbnB it and show us the Roi. Then Give it away in a contest. I realize that could be a long process, but I think you are successful enough to fund it start to finish.
"Modular homes rock! Why settle for normal when you can build a LEGO fortress? A nutty billionaire spent $3 billion on a New York place, thinking it was a mythical unicorn. It's like playing Monopoly with Monopoly money, ending up with the world's priciest paperweight. Dreaming of penthouses as pricey as gold-plated subs! Real estate is a blindfolded roller coaster, praying not to crash into debt. Watching real estate videos is like a Wall Street soap opera where stocks tumble like a sneeze-hit Jenga tower!"
I drive by long beach port all the time, thousands of cargo containers sitting around there empty. Always thinking about buying these containers. We will always have empty containers
He should not be using spray foam in those containers. Spray foam is unregulated in the US but other countries have many regulations. Not only are the fumes not good for you, no ventilation. That is a shame. They look great.
I have been to a few airbnbs that were 20feet containers turned into a 1 bd 1bath small house and honestly i was loving it . I have stayed in those airbnbs for weeks and even months at a time . What i didnt like was that length itself was bad as in their was only space for 1 small bed and maybe a fridge but no other furniture could be installed ,i have been in a 40 n a 56 foot container as well they all had similar problems .however u can modify them to fit your needs tho ,personally i just think its a great way to start investing into your own place amd build something with it
How much is the strength of the containers itself? And how much weight can the container hold once it has interior framing? Do the roofs need an extra surface to prevent leaks?
Great Content 💰 I’m going to start Manufacturing some Hydro Ag Homeowner Shipping Container Farms to start Marketing & Selling really soon. Thanks Farmer Jeff 👨🌾 No Farmers No Farms No Food Everyone Has To Eat Or Starve
what? hard to get containers in USA?? all we heard in Europe during covid was that all containers where stuck in USA cuz of the pandemic and USA more or less never export anything now days. so all the containers we wanted where stuck in USA.... it must been easy for him to buy them and fast aslo.
It would be absolutely great for you to buy one of these containers and set up an Airbnb to see if it's profitable. Also I'm a renter in New York. 😢 So if you plan to give one of those container homes away. I would definitely be so grateful. 🙏
This is my favorite episode! Yes, you should buy one. I loved my visit to Marble Falls and am going to his site to check out that model. Thank you for doing this in-depth profile on Bob!
Theres are everwhere in my country, these and tiny homes. A 1950 2bedroom 74sqm falling apart house goes for 1mil in some areas. So its more afforadble to get something like this for 150k+
I know when they ship manufactured homes things break and crack in transit. I'm sure this is no different even though it's more rigid. They just patch it up on site.
free trade doesn't - so , not your own business . ( under 20k lbs ) . DOT numbers are free , though - as long as you go through the official .gov site instead of being scammed by a third party for 300 bucks or so . avoid the " federalDOTauthority " . so many people have lost money towards that that it's a good thing that things like free trade still exist . MC numbers are the ones that cost money @ around 50 bucks - but , again , not necessary under certain conditions .
