Hey, I just wanted to say a massive thank you for the information in the video. I've always thought about selling things that I no longer need on Ebay, but was always put off by the (what I thought would be) confusion to do with shipping and selling etc. After watching a few of your videos I've finally listed my first few items after having an Ebay account since 2006 and actually made 2 sales within 1hour of listing!
I remember when I first started selling on eBay, a RU-vidr mentioned that you should stick to items no bigger than a shoe box. So I went around every shoe store in my area and picked up around 60 empty shoe boxes 😂 Something I discovered pretty quick was to maximise the shipping sizes when choosing a box. Not only does it save cutting down boxes to fit, but you also have more “shipping presence” so it’s less likely (hopefully) that your item would go missing. I sell some really small stuff but I put them in a large padded envelope so there’s no chance it would go missing. Sometimes the temptation is to put small stuff in the smallest package possible when the opposite makes more sense. I specially if you have to pay the next shipping price up
Just felt the need to comment because more people gotta find your content! thank you for this vid, very informative! I want to start selling clothes that I don’t need, but was very intimidated by the shipping and packing process. thank you for showing me Private Ship too, btw!
Thank you for your videos, I’ve been looking on RU-vid for videos on selling on eBay but most are in America and I’m in oz as well. Your videos are very informative and not messy with information we don’t need. I’ll be watching all them 👍
Great video! I will only add that for items such as the console, I like to float it with paper, packing peanuts etc on ALL sides of the item. That’s the best way to protect it from shock if the box gets thrown around during shipping. I learned this the hard way a couple times and haven’t had issues once I started protecting on all sides. For very expensive and/or fragile items, I will do the above and then put that box inside a larger box with the smaller box floated. Double protection! Cheers!
Your videos are fantastic. The way you explain things so quickly and clearly is so helpful.!!! Not having all the unnecessary details makes it much easier to understand without excess confusion. Thanks!
tip. Item dimensions can cube out to be way more Kg in Weight than the actual dead weight of an item. Cut the box / carton down so it is minimal size to protect the item. In the locg run it will save you a further in Cube Kilo costs.
Yeah. You go to school and listen to the maths teachers then you count it out on your thumbs and fingers. If you have no thumbs or fingers use your toes combined with the brain you were given.
when you charge the customer for shipping does that cover your cost to pay for your shiiping label? or is the shipping label an additional expense outside of all the purchase?
Hi great video, one question though. Are you only able to purchase the shipping labels after your listing has been purchased? if so how can I know how much shipping will cost before making the sale, thanks.
Thanks for the tips! If you mind me asking, what's the difference between buying your own packaging/printing own label and taking to Aus post/use their packaging materials - a part from the price difference. Thanks :)
Thanks for you videos, they’re giving me the confidence I need to have a go and selling some items eBay. One question about shipping labels. When you say “purchase shipping label” does that mean the shipping is already paid, so when I go to the post office I don’t pay there? Thank you.
I have a question if you could answer that would help a lot, i Just recently subscribed, great videos. Commercial Shipping Rates saving like Pirate Ship for the USA or MyPost Business for AUS...is there one for the UK?
Hi love the vid and thank you for the information just wanted to ask you when printed out the label do I pay for it or does it come off the price of the item and what is left come to me or what just only getting started on eBay 🎉
This is not for beginners. I can’t sell anything until I understand how to set up my shipping options. As it is now, I get a drop-down menu with three standard options. Yet, I have t-shirts I want to sell 1st class that the buyer pays postage for, some items I want to ship flat rate padded envelope, and some items with free shipping. I finally found a "Shipping Preferences" page, thinking this would fix it to give me these needed options when listing an item, but I don't know how to answer the questions on this page. Is there a you-tube tutorial to explain all this? Why is this so darn difficult?!?
Hey man, loved the video. I was just curious. If the orders you packed were from the same person, do you recommend putting all of them in the same box to save the shipping cost?
If they have purchased multiple items, you can send an invoice to them that combines shipping. Less of a headache for you and cheaper for the buyer. I don't know if you can do this if they pay immediately. I would assume if someone is knowingly purchasing multiple items they will most likely wait for an invoice
Great video.thank you for your help. Question: is there any option to print the label somewhere else if you dont have a printer? And if you have a printer what type of paper do you need?
This video was helpful for me, someone who has no idea what they're doing at the moment. If it's okay, I have a question! Is there a way to get the shipping label if you personally don't have a printer?
Hello, When you are shipping do you recommend free shipping or customer paying for shipping cost. And does it have to be priority mail? Thx great video
Really helpful guide Samson. A few questions: - Any reason why you use satchels instead of boxes? Speed/Cost? Seems like they'd be more prone to splitting than cardboard. - Do you cross-check the buyers eBay shipping address with their PayPal payment address or simply print whatever eBay spits out? - When do you use/not use signature on delivery? - When do you use/not use registered post? I have more Q's but without turning this comment into an AMA I'll leave it at that. Thanks ✌️
Cheers man, I will answer in each Q in order: 1. Speed & Cost, satchels cost me approx. 10c each in bulk, easier to transport to post office, take up less space then boxes. 2. I print whatever eBay spits out, that is enough to cover me & only have had an issue arise once (PayPal dispute was found in my favor). 3. Item cost over $150 or if buyer requested. 4. Almost always these days, some cheap products that I import I send as untracked letters, but most items I send registered. 👍
Thank you for your informative video. I watched you video because I have been stuck at sending a parcel to US. I am a new seller on EBay and last night posted some of my books for the first time I get an offer which was over the price I posed and I was shocked what’s going one why he send me bigger amount may be he need more of this book sets but after searching more I find out he is in US and I am in Aus. So now I am totally lost with price and I really don’t know how much it will cost to send a book to US and is there any specific way I need to do it?
Hi Samson thank you for all your videos very helpful. Was going to be selling with eBay but seeing all the comments regarding scamming and eBay costs it will not be worth my time as my items would only be $20 to $10 so can you say it is worth my time from New Zealand Thanks Faye
What a wonderful video . Thank you very much, God bless. One quick question though, if you don't have a printer at home, can I print it at my local printer shop ?
ok so I am just trying to sell some used items on ebay from UAE, I want to know how the shipping works? do people from Ebay come to u to collect the product or it's the people from the shipping company u chose from?
I planning to sell as well on Ebay. My main issue will be shipping at inexpensive rate, so there is profit. I am also planning on buying that printer machine. Any advice for the machine and paper to print?
So I have been shipping with FB Marketplace for some time. The process is really easy. I'm just getting ready to start on EBay for items that don't sell well on FB Marketplace. This video did not discuss how you decided on your shipping method when you listed the item. So are you picking your box and packaging before you list for your accurate weight and method of shipping to describe in your listing?
Hey Samson! Thank you for this video! I just wanted to ask you please, how important do you think the name of the eBay store is? Do you think it should always be something that sounds like a highly professional name or is a more personal “cute” type of name acceptable like “thrifty finds” “second chances” etc etc ? Can I ask your thoughts please?
Hi, I feel that eBay store names are only very important for niche stores. If you are selling thrifted items, I would not worry to much about the name. Just make sure the name is not too generic or irrelevant to what you sell.
Thanks dude, answered all the questions other Aussie ebayers didn't. Could you have sandwiched the shorts flat in a large letter, assuming you could keep them flatter than 2cm?
Cheers mate, yes you can do this. I personally don't because it is too much mucking around & 90% of the shorts I sell are too expensive for me to be willing to send them untracked.
Cheers, the printer is a 'Dymo 4XL' : www.amazon.com/DYMO-S0904960-Label-Printer-LabelWriter/dp/B002YNVSN4/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=dymo+4xl&qid=1632548197&sr=8-5
Hey Samson, great vid, thanks for your tips. Quick question, do you ship games as large envelopes to reduce cost, or do you send them as parcels? Thanks :)
Dear brother your video really help full for beginners. Just i have a one question How’s work date like until how Many days you receive the parcel 📦 . These things we have to fix it or auto generators on ebay ?
Hello, I am in a predicament and want an opinion from a experienced seller. I recently got my first sale on a decently large item. It was $12.00 free shipping which was what was selling on the market. So ebay will charge me $18 for a shipping label which puts the item way in the negative. Is that Normal for all items or not? Should I continue with the sale or cancel the order and refund the money? I really did not expect to pay that much from shipping the item.
I’m selling a violin with the case included on ebay. This is my first time selling anything online. I got someone but he still hasn’t paid. How much should I charge for shipping and how do I charge for shipping?
Don't you have to enter shipping price when posting item? If so, does that amount get paid to you and then ebay takes out of your acct if you buy shipping from them?
Out of interest do you include packing slips, and do you find the adhesive on those satchels is strong enough or do you tape them up as well? Thanks ✌️
I do for expensive items (orders over $100). I used to include a packing slip with all orders, however I stopped to save on time & printer ink. I figured that the receipt is available on eBay & if the buyer wants it they can print it for themselves. Never once had a complaint about it & many large sellers I have ordered from did not include a slip. The adhesive labels are definitely strong enough in my experience.
