As a postie myself. This is very very good information for the public. I would also add make sure your mail box is in compliance with regulation. Because alot of these mailing envelopes do not fit in mail boxes. And if you want your products to be delivered safely to you, you have to have a mailbox that can fit it, or it has to be picked up from the local post office either the next day or that afternoon.
how is that our fault though, if it doesn't fit in the mail box... GO to the door or don't deliver, use the vans... it defeats the whole purpose of "DELIVERY".... they should have a standard mail measuring tool to see if it'll fit or not otherwise it's a waste of time :|
@@meganlobrien very confused, im trying to start my own small business with Etsy and sending a small parcel for a sticker cost me $10 AUD????? :( but I looked around on etsy I saw people selling their stickers with $3 shipping so that doesnt make any sense... I tried with etsy itself and Auspost same price too
the international letters are actually available rn I think as I’ve been sending a few and they’ve been delivered (if they were in an envelope) the economy untracked parcels which are suspended. Prices has been raised though. And you can only send letters, if you send them with a box or a bubble mailer it gets returned to sender if you don’t have a customs form with a barcode.
Its only documents currently! (For letter mail) I contacted auspost last month and anything that isn’t documents is still not technically allowed :(( I’ve been shipping my stickers as it’s paper but my scrunchies won’t be allowed still as the customs form would say it’s not documents. Hopefully it’s all back to normal soon! Economy US untracked parcels are back but unsure about other countries How long have your letters been taking and what have you been sending in them? ☺️ I shipped a few stickers but no idea how long they will take 😞
@@TaylahRose I’ve been shipping keychains and I wasn’t aware of the document only thing and I’ve had many orders returned to me as I undercharged. It’s been a very trying time for me and I’ve had to refund about 15 buyers which is a lot as my shop only has 70 sales. I have been sending some prints and saying they are “documents” and they’ve been getting through fine if they’re in an envelope. To the US it usually takes 4-6 weeks and to the UK it’s around 2-3 weeks. It’s super inconvenient but I’m always very happy if they actually arrive. I’m thinking of suspending my international shipping as it’s always so hard.
Thank you for the information! I have been charging for parcels for the last year due to the letters being suspended. I still receive overseas orders even when it’s $20-$25 postage! Might be worth charging for parcels as an option instead of shutting off international 💞

@@t_3012-hjsit can, depends on the location but that’s the responsibility of the recipient to pay. Usually Europe pay duties and tax but I’m not sure how much elsewhere has to pay ☺️
Not sure what you mean, but Australia post is still sending parcels overseas both tracked and some places untracked too, just not letters that contain items. (Letters that contain documents are still going overseas)

Definitely P.O. Box! I’ve always been very worried about personal stuff being young and out on social media. It’s definitely a personal choice but Ild recommended one for safety ☺️

Hey! I haven’t personally shipped registered with stamps but when I ship internationally and need to enter that info I say hair scrunchies or bows etc even hair accessories
with the rigid boxes (cd mailers) do you just pop a stamp on them and drop them to the post office? Like how do you ship them? I've got a scrunchie business to and have just started an online website so I want to be as efficient as possible xx

Hey! If it’s prepaid you would just need to write the address on as it’s already paid for, no need for label unless it’s just a satchel with no shipping payment

It’s not I’m afraid. There are non tracked parcels to certain countries that are a bit cheaper. I highly recommended an auspost business account you’ll get a discount on international parcels
You can do either, I always take my items in to get scanned / stamped tho because I have trust issues lol but you can definitely just drop them in the red box

I wasnt aware of the smaller boxes you could send and only paying $2.20! can i make a suggestion? i use tough cardboard and plastic bags to send zippers,ribbons don't use boxes for scrunchies they are lightweight and thin and boxes are expensive to use but totally up to you
thats good scrunchies can slip past as an envelope size .< ugh so annoying ! now i focus mostly on crochet toys and everything gets sent in satchels at $8,95. its good your customers are nice and honest about receiving. ive had a few claim it never arrived and thus get refunded so ive learnt my lesson to not just use stamps and get the tracking number or you lose out on both the item and the postage cost. thank you for sharing your shipping wisdom and hope to watch more of your videos in the future

hmm.. that's weird about the customs declaration for international letters. I recently sent some stickers in a rigid envelope to USA and the lady at the front just gave me some stamps and told me to put it in the mail box. No declaration at all...
You only need the customs declaration for items that aren’t documents or letters I think. I’ve had so many orders returned due to this customs form things as I wasn’t aware of it. If you send it with a bubble mailer or small box you need a customs form. But if it’s a standard DL/C5 envelope that is very thin and looks like a letter then you don’t need a customs form, just a stamp or label.

I don’t have one! I just use my normal A4 printer with either normal printer paper or cheap sticker paper I purchased from eBay I think I got 500 pieces for $60 from memory

When I use Australia post the settings were automatically perfect for printing 4 to a page on A4 sheet 😀 so I never changed anything I just pressed print labels and that was it. I know they do offer a heap of different ways you can print and to change settings but I’ve never explored those as the settings are great for me x
By any chance could you show how to pack a fake international order. I had my first international order and didn't know what paper/ form went where. Auspost was no help and when i went in to the post office to ask they had no idea and that the best they could do was wait for the manager to come in. The manager finally came and didn't tell me what to do and just did it himself. Not very helpful :/ it was to spain.

This is such a great question!! I’ve always been very private about my home address (being so young when I first started I was worried about creeps on the internet and all that) so I’ve always had a PO BOX and do highly recommend them when doing business! I believe it costs me $35 a year and I claim that back on tax 🥰

Also can you please give the dimensions of the superflat envelope mailers that you have? Is the largest one that you have considered a letter? I looked at the Aus Post letter dimensions and I think the max for a big letter domestically is 260mm x 360mm x 20mm. Is the big envelope considered a parcel?
These are the dimensions below! A4- 310mm 220mm 16mm A5 - 220mm 160mm 16mm CD - 152mm 132mm 16mm Small - 140mm 80mm 16mm Parcel box - 220mm 170mm 80mm So the A4 one is still below the requirements and able to be sent as a letter (as it’s like an A4 document) I usually have to put 3 stamps on that size because of the weight! The A4 is also the same size as the large tracked envelope

I’m not to sure! I think if it’s floppy they will class it as a letter. Safer to use envelopes. Perhaps with the size you added may be to big, best to double check that as well. The max is B4 (similar to A4) I believe!

hi, since she didn’t reply I thought I’d respond. it’s quite expensive to get tracked options internationally, as you have to send it as a parcel as there’s no letter option anymore. You could send a $21 under 250g parcel with tracking to the United States/Canada but it goes up/down depending on what country you’re sending to. You’ll need to go to a post office and lodge it and they’ll print a label for it. Sendle is an amazing company which is about $1 more than aus post but it’s much faster and you can get it collected from your door if you live in a capitol city. Hope this helps! If you don’t want tracking you’ll need to stick in an envelope with a 3.40$ stamp but it’ll need to be thin.
erin woods thank you so much for your response! i actually sent my first tracked parcel a while ago, and the price is exactly what you said, however the duration of delivery was faster than I thought. I’ve thought of using Sendle, but I’ve seen so many bad reviews from them I’m not sure if I should use that method :/

Coming from a person with severe social anxiety haha, I absolutely choose sendle over aus post.

Very! I’ve always been super protective of my personal info and have had a P.O. Box from day one 💕 it’s worth it for privacy. I do get a discount tho being regional. I’m unsure any other options sorry 😓
I always do, I have P.O. Box which helps me feel safer about using a return address. I normally go in however I live in a small country town so there’s almost never anyone in line when I go to the Post office. If I lived somewhere that was busier I would probably just put them in the box. I always take my tracked envelopes and parcels in to be scanned tho
@@TaylahRose I literally posted a parcel as a letter today for the first time and the first post office that I went to said you can only post documents as letters and the second place helped me with the stamps and everything but then asked me to drop off the letter in the box outside instead of taking in which was odd. I also had to hand write the receivers address. Do you usually print the address from the auspost website? I also forgot to include a return address so hope it will not get lost 🤞
Some post offices can be nasty but no where does it state documents only, luckily my local is great and we get along really well. I print all my addresses on a word document (just copy and paste) into three columns it works great! So much quicker than handwriting Not sure why she made you go out and put it in the box - that’s odd 🥴

Hi Taylah, I hope you can help me. Have started my small business but really struggling with the shipping expenses. Can a rigid mailed box be used for items like pens, usb, or id badge. It is too expensive if i use satchels and pay for a parcel price for these small items. A regular envelop can be too thin and easily break for these pieces too..
Hey as long as the items and envelope are below 2cm it will be fine, there are also tracked envelope options too if you needed. The large ones are a nice thick card which can be protective

Hi! You can get address parcel stickers from Australia post and can write on those and stick them on in store when you pay to post the item. Or when you purchase the postage through the Australia post business account the address will already be on the sticker/paper with the tracking information so you won’t need to write the address out. If you don’t have stamps at home uou will just need to go to Australia post and purchase there and pay for postage each time rather than having the envelopes ready. The weight costs depend on many many things such as envelope vs parcel and how big the parcel is Ild suggest looking at the auspost website or even going in store they have books/pieces of paper that have all this info. Tracking comes with every parcel and costs $5+ for envelopes. If you ever get confused about what something will cost to post bring in the item to auspost and they can tell you for certain :) goodluck!
