Shirin in Love - Love has no borders and therein lies the premise of the charming, new Iranian-American romantic comedy "Shirin in Love." Nazanin Boniadi plays Shirin, an absent-minded, young Iranian-American living in "Tehrangeles" (the large Iranian community in Los Angeles) with her overbearing mother and empathetic father. Despite being engaged for years to a successful Iranian plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills, Shirin finds herself breaking loyalty and tradition when she falls in love with a mysterious young man who lives in a lighthouse in northern California. As her secret unravels and cultures clash, Shirin discovers what it ultimately means to be true to herself.

It does have a nice storyline. But I personally couldn't bear the cheating part. You could fall in love with someone else while you're in a relationship, but to kiss and sleep with them is just morally wrong. That scene might seem romantic or lovely for some people, but it's subtly promoting that cheating is a normal thing when you're not happy with your relationship. 😅 Just a random conservative Asian person sharing my thought.

If you can’t bear with what a woman can show to make herself true, even if it means having a sexual relationship with others whole not yet married, then you should probably be a Philosopher than in a relationship. Since many have already added their point of views ama just gonna add one. Being true to yourself is not about selflessly thinking about oneself or only ones happiness without considering the lifes that is connected to yours esp if he's your wife/husband/bf/gf/partner. Have the respect for your partner if not for relationship to first end/break up. But to choose to cheat is more like to cheat yourself. Be true to yourself is about honesty. So be honest and do the right way of ending a relationship without the need to damage anyone's life.

Glad I watched ! Enjoyed it a lot ! Reminds me of my 2nd marriage. Divorced 7 years before met my future 2nd wife , Job struggles and financial problems. Working at the time as a medical courier for Quest Diagnostics. Part of my route thru downtown Los Angeles, included a family-owned clinic in industrial area, they were very nice people , immigrants from Iran. 3 times a week stopped there for pick-ups., like 10 minutes in and out. Only brief chats, but they got to know me over 3-4 months, in 2003.They learned my cheerfulness came from engagement to my 2nd wife-to-be and were so happy for me when our wedding date approached. I was barely more than a stranger to them, but for some reason they really liked me. And I could hardly believe it when they said ,"We have something extra for you to pick up today." They handed me a envelope with a wedding card, and a check for $ 600 ! I'm a little ashamed I lost track of their address, and their names. This was such a wonderful ,un-expected gift from this lovely Persian family ! It was truly very helpful and So kind !

Didn't expect much at the beginning but this turned out to be an incredibly fun movie. Not on the same level of My Big Fat Greek Wedding or Gypsy Woman, but still a very good movie, with interracial marriage for a subject. It was a pleasant surprise to see the wonderful comedian Miraz Jobrani as an actor here. Two thumbs up!

Iranians love watching Bollywood movies a lot. And besides, Maz Jobrani, the fiance, is married to an Indian woman, in his real life. Maybe that this is where the inspirations about an Indian-like atmosphere came from. I know quite a number of Iranian movies. Most of them are very good, the story, the actors and the scenes. But most of them are very serious and deep-thinking and not as lighthearted as most of the Indian movies.

I loveed the film and I love Iranian weddings, smilar to our Turkish weddings.Iran was a very modern country once, people were just like the people in this movie.These people who escaped from the extremely religious regime live their lives just like before the 1979 Iran revolution... but only in the other countries like US,UK or any European country.They are very good people,they are very very mild Muslims,as you see they drink alcohol,they dance,they educate their children at the best universities possible.

@@akongnwineba410 As long as the fiance was fuming about the lost engagement ring and Shirin´s car hadn´t set off to drive away her dad said repeatedly: "No, she didn´t loose it, she just cannot find it." But as soon as Shirin is out of sight, he admits, that she probably has lost the ring. But now the fiance cannot harm her. But then again, this is some kind of a very theatrical, which are typical for Iranians. But then again, "they don´t eat the food when it is too hot". This means, that it all looks pretty dramatic, but in the end it turns all to a big laugh altogether. Iranians are very humorous and joyful people. Have fun watching..

The mom knew she was good for her son who had not been living at all. So much more to this movie than getting stuck on the people who did not belong together and how they should have handled it.The managed to save two people from making a huge mistake. The son was not living after his fathers death, and her old man just wanted to party and pretend he was still young and live like a teen. He had no love for her.

Is no one gonna talk about how they started their love? As much as i love to see them together but they are cheaters. One cheating from 7 years relationship, one cheating from her fiance. No matter how awful your partner's character is, cheating is not acceptable.

I was looking for this comment. Thanks. No cheater can know what love is. Cheater only know lust. They didn't have to cheat to be in love, they could have ended their relationships first.
