When Shirley had Her famous wreck at the end of Detroit dragway, I had just mised it by 1 min. She was airborne and flew hundreds of feet over the dirt road I was on. She landed in the woods on the other side. Could you Imagine a Dragster flying over your head while pedaling a bicycle 😮. She is one tough cookie. God bless Shirley. The Queen of Drag racers.
Hi Rick i put together most of the racing clips from that movie several months ago here if you're interested: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SGaSFD40RYo.html
Who doesn't LOVE Shirley ? ,,women have a certain finesse naturally,, Men have to learn how to do that instead of brute force on the controls of anything,, I am a retired heavy equipment operator and many years ago I had to learn finesse for precision operation of equipment,,it takes time & persistent attitude,, more women should be operating heavy equipment and other things,, /Rick in Alabama says this!
@@supertubr robin Kirby started to use that chassis after he rolled his funny car at Calder Park Australia he ran a small budget team but he got a reputation as a giant killer he stop racing a few years ago and sold of most of his gear but he built a hot rod and put one of his race engines in it(detuned of coarse)
I really look forward to a woman winning at Indy. I thought Danica Patrick might be the one, as she came from a racing family, but alas she didn't have the heart to stick to it
@@supertubr Actually yes. I'd love it if there would be women at least finishing in the top three positions consistently. Even though Danica had a good start, she didn't have what it took mentally. I knew we'd lost her to advertising money when she started shilling for Go Daddy. Especially when they were pushing her as a sex symbol rather than a serious race car driver. While I get it that pretty much every woman wants to feel attractive, I'd like to see Shirley Muldowneys in the other facets of motorsports.
@@cynicalrabbit915 Sounds good to me considering the gender barriers she had to overcome back then when it was much harder. But she knew how to make it work to her advantage too. A true champion.
Without Jack Muldowney, there would have been no Shirley Muldowney. I was a fan or hers until I watched Heart Like a Wheel, and it really turned my stomach. The way she portrayed Conrad as a playboy was disgraceful as well.
It was a movie not a documentary. The writer(s) could have thrown anything into the film to dramatize it (and they often do). Shirley has paid her dues and is lucky to be alive today after her 1984 accident in Montreal.
