if you will notice the one has several parches on his shirt denoting his rank while the other does not. In the military an enlisted soldier can not strike and officer with out being punished . So when the officer removed his shirt it was an unspoken agreement that he was setting aside his rank so he and the soldier could fight man to man with out repercussions .
