However, the Japanese by the time of the invasion had already left due to the island no longer being valuable. The US and Canadians did not know this, and upon landing were apparently unaware of the others positions. This led to a Canadian firing at an American and a fire fight ensued with both sides believing the other to be Japanese. The ship, USS Abner Read, sunk from a mine laid by the Japanese. The extended battle information is more funny than what is shown in the video, as at the top it says "belligerents: US and Canada | Japan (not present)" which is hilarious.
