On what should have been one of the great soul songs of the 1960s, ’Shitting Off The Dock Of The Bay’ found Bobby Dazzler in an uncharacteristically reflective mood. It was inspired by a particularly problematic digestive episode that had left Bobby dangling himself off a local pier for many hours while relieving himself of the unpleasant after-effects of a badly prepared meal.
It was widely rumoured that several years later parts of the song were stolen for use in a much more famous record, though lawyers for the record label in question have consistently denied this.
