See Rollin's final film, MASK OF THE MEDUSA, one of his best and most unusual film. It's kind of an essay film about horror cinema and all takes place in the French Fantastique museum and the Pere Lachaise cemetery, where Rollin is interred.
Great Channel! I am a Jean Rollin Nut,l adore his films and La Rose de Fer l watch perhaps twenty times per year,Francoise Pascal was probably one of his most successful Actresses and became quite famous in the 1970s in Britain,l saw her on many British TV shows back then. Shiver is incredible also, along with Requiem for a Vampire, three stunning films. I love your well thought out critique in the reviews of each film and am going to watch many more of your videos over the Weekend. I think JR reached his absolute Zenith with Levres de Sang which starred another actress with moderate success,Annie Belle. Your relaxed but excellently researched videos are very much appreciated and please keep doing what you're doing. Its great to know there are fellow JR Fans out there. I truly see him as a Visionary along the lines of Jean-Luc Goddard or Francois Truffaut, unperturbed by budget or any real life issues. He just let the cameras roll and caught magic. I wish l had discovered him so much younger! l go to Amiens this year to pay homage to this Master of Cinema by visiting the setting of La Rose de Fer,the Madeleine Cimiterie in Amiens. I will be so excited to walk in the footsteps of Hugues Quester! Thanks again for your excellent channel with highly informative and entertaining content. One question? Do you know if the Castle in Shiver was in Soissons? I heard it may be?
Hi guitardan666, thanks so much for watching and leaving a kind comment! I'm afraid I have no information as to the whereabouts of the Castle in Shiver. Let us know how you like Amiens!
@@AL_TFA I've seen: The Iron Rose (my fav from him) The Nude Vampire (my fav of his vampire movies) The Grapes of Death The Demoniacs The Night of the Hunted Lips of Blood The Living Dead Girl Fascination Zombie Lake Requiem for a Vampire I think I prefer Jess Franco by far.
Well apart from superficial similarities, Franco and Rollin have little in common and I don't think they watch each other's movies or were aware of one another. When it comes to director interviews, I prefer Jess Franco as he's more fun to listen to.
@@AL_TFA I think I've read that Franco didn't like Jean Rollin (maybe because of what he did to Virgin Amongst The Living Dead (or whatever the title is)). For me both are like sun and shadow (wrong opposite, I know) or hot and cold. - I watched two weeks ago Franco's Erotic Symphony; I think that is maybe the closest to Rollin that he gets. Not from the content but from the coldness of the pictures - and still: I prefer Franco's cinematography, too. Well, of course not in every film but in most of them. On the other hand, I've seen 76 Francos and only 10 Rollins. I've found the interview. He says about Rollin: "Ich mag weder ihn noch seine Filme. Er hat Filme von mir genommen und eigene Szenen eingefügt. Ich will nicht sagen, daß ich ihn hasse, aber ich will nichts mit ihm zu tun haben."
