Nice video. Both Shivers (or High Rise😉) and Rabid are superb. I love the rough look and feel of these two films and even though they lack the polish and sheen of his later works, I love that the budget restraints of these two films led to two endlessly watchable horror cult classics. However I have a question, does the steam room fight in Eastern Promises remind you of a pre title action scene in a Bond film? Or is it just me😁
Totally agree. I think they both stand up well today and are really inventive, the Ballard influence is also very strong. The henchmen in the fight scene are a bit Bond like, with that said it would be great to see a Bond film be that graphic and brutal. Glad you liked the video.
I am watching Shivers on DVD right now as I'm writing this. I have seen this classic horror many times and absolutely love it. 1975 Wow. I do miss the brilliant and bonkers 70's, and would love to be back there right now instead of this terrible covid lock down in 2021. In this movie I love the clothes and dreadful 70's hair styles on the men. The chintsey furniture and the outlay of the apartment block was cutting edge back then. And being made on a low budget made the sound difficult to hear at times, especially as some of the actors tended to mumble in places. The intro about the apartment block is great and having the city so near yet so far made it sound like an ideal place to live. The ending is brilliant and quite eery to see them driving off in their cars to basically spread it around the world. Love it. Mind you I can think of worse ways of spending the rest of my life than in one big orgy..lol!! This is one of those movies that I could watch once a year for the rest of my life.
Everything you listed is literally what makes this movie so great. None of the budget limitations or bad acting get in the way of it being really entertaining. I love your enthusiasm for this movie, it’s good to see that people still love Shivers so many years later.
I have to agree with you there about the brilliant and bonkers 70s. each time I watch this movie I imagine myself being in this apartment block living a completely different life to now and imagining that I am enjoying the carnal pleasure of sex with gay men. I would love that to be honest. everything would go.
@@robertevans4165 Sounds like a great plan to me Rob. You take care of floors 1,3, 5, 7,9 and 11 with all those gay blokes. And I could focus on floors 2,4,6,8,10 and 12 with all the hot saucy ladies. Everything definitely would go. Then after a couple of days when everyone is shattered we could swap floors and start all over. It would be one messy enviroment but my god it would be a lot of fun. And this is absolutely very different to life to mine as well now..lol!!

And that Starline apartment complex looks like an ideal place to bring an open minded crowd of fun loving 70's adults 18 to 70 years old. All with the party on down attitude.....yeahhh babyyyyy!!!!!!
