(c) By doing what we do, we're already acknowledging that we don't own these sources, we don't profit from these works, we do it as a hobby because it's fun and a learning experience with these software programs and these videos pay tribute to the fandoms that we follow - if anything, these works promote the artist's works and the anime shows more than anything else.
I am trying to explain to her because it seems that she is one of the rare people who understands this problem. On tumbler, she has voiced her annoyance about people who do not give credit, yet she is doing the same thing. It is very hard to understand the importance of sourcing if one is not a artist herself. It only takes five second the most to credit so I don't see the reason for not doing it besides laziness. Remember, these doujinshi takes weeks, even months to make.
But the artist have already said this in a painfully clear way "stop". You can ask any artist at the pixiv level if they support activities like this and they will say disagree. Until you become one of their level, you don't really have the right to say "This is okay"
I actually looked at her videos to support someone who shares my point of view. Why don't you try to bring out a proper argument instead of just pointing out irrelevant facts? I also know the difficulty of making a amv (ICT student) and it is no easy task; in fact, I used to get lazy about crediting all the time. Realistically there is nothing I can do to "force" people to start crediting if they admit that they understand their actions are unethical, but don't care otherwise.
I don't have to lower myself to anyone's level, you either come to mine or it won't work at all. The thing is that my facts aren't irrelevant at all like you say, because you are here, asking precisely this editor to source an art that she doesn't even know where it came from, here's an hypothetical situation, you take something from a store and you don't pay, but you don't have the slightest idea of what robbery is, can you charge the client with the crime? no, you cant. Relate that to this.
(c) plus you fail to realize that making videos like this is more than just compiling random pics - there is actual "editing" and work involved but to try to explain that to someone who knows little or nothing about the process seems mute
You don't seem to understand the problem. It is not a matter of youtube habits, but the fact that these works were taken without permission from the artist without proper sources. These Japanese artists are left defenseless for they cannot communicate in English. In fact, many pixiv artists are deactivating their accounts due to this problem. My explanation will take too long so we can bring it to the message box instead. I am simply doing the least I can, to raise awareness.
While I admit that you aren't entirely wrong, I will say that you're taking this too seriously. Maya told me about you - how you send messages to her tumblr about her AMVs. She feels like you're singling her out and ragging on her for some personal vendetta that she doesn't quite understand. Not to be rude, but don't you have something better to do? =o AMV editing (and any fandom mv editing in general) is using sources that are not our own.
Just like you're taking time to stalk her videos just to find out that she has un-sourced art, you should also take time to read the description to figure out that she wasn't even the editor of this video, its irrelevant that it's uploaded to her channel. Just like you waste time not trying to process this line of thought and you have your mind closed to different points of view, I want to say that it also takes work to make videos, so not all the credit goes to the artists, oh and its 'tumblr'
Wow if she didn't even know where the art came from she shouldn't even have taken it. =___= Okay bottom line here, next time when you make a amv just take 5 seconds of your time to credit a work that took the artist 5h, easy no? I the client don't know what robbery is, teach her. Oh and last thing, why would becoming a pixiv level artist be lowering yourself?
