What's happening, folks! I'm back with another a-ha reaction from their live performance at Sentrum Scene in Oslo in 1994, and this time we listen to a bluesy, even jazzy performance of the masterpiece "Manhattan Skyline." I really enjoyed this rendition, though it is notably different from (and longer than) the album recording in multiple ways. So join me for more live a-ha. Cheers!

Haha, sorry, folks---I shoot my videos with my camera on a platform, and sometimes the edge of the platform ends up in the shot without me realizing. Hence the fuzzy orange at the bottom of the screen. Mea culpa.

Oh Matt, that’s not the edge of your table. You have finally reached a the magical place with becoming an a-ha fan. After you listen to a certain number of their songs (doesn’t matter which ones or if you listen to certain ones over and over, it’s just the amount that matters), you get this magical golden aura that is always below you whenever you listen to an a-ha song from now on. We all have it. Congratulations, you’ve made it! 😁👏🏼🎊

My favourite a-ha song BUT !!! The guitar pedal used in the 'How can you say' part makes my skin crawl. The rest is the natural evolution of the NRK 91 version... and (IMHO) this longer version of the song is how it should be played live every time.

Not the greatest live performance of Manhattan Skyline, but always a pleasure to listen to this song. 😉 And it's no wonder it remains as your probable-favourite a-ha song, you were blown away by the album version. 😊 The NRK studios live version also came to me head as I listened, and it's certainly far superior (granted, recorded in a more controlled setting). As Graham mentions, Morten sounds tired (as on several tracks in this concert, and worse is still to come 😜) and that extended instrumental jamming session, with the guitar and keyboard dialogue, has also sounded better elsewhere. Regardless, still a great live version, and hearing it live must have been awesome. Lucca is looking adorable in her sleep, no wonder you can't take your eyes off her. 😻

Awwww, Lucca is indeed so adorable when she's tired and sleeping. What a cutie (still second place in my book, though!). 😉😘😍 And indeed, you're right, few songs have ever hit me as powerfully as the studio version of "Manhattan Skyline" the first time I hear it. What an experience!

So yes, agreeing with everyone that while this might be the absolute best version (I am with Sofia that the NRK one is superior to this) this is really good. Morten’s voice is close to straining, but still good. Mags and Pål are hot and killing it. If I would have been there, I would have been fan girl slobbering over both of them for their performances. 🤤🤪🤣🤣Sigh….❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

I’d describe this particular live version of Manhattan Skyline as “looser”…slightly slower in tempo it gives the whole performance a more laid-back, bluesy, feeling…in a good way. I love the alliance of rocking guitars from Pal and Mag’s great keyboards & of course Morten’s great 1990s slightly raspy vocals.

Not quite as good as the NRK version. Morten sounds a little ragged as he does on some of the other tracks from this set. But the rawness is enjoyable. The most interesting element of this song is usually to hear how final third of the track is constructed from the middle eight onwards, and this is a great one - middle eight, return to the post-chorus part, then back to a pretty funky guitar part with some great percussion and piano. Might have said it before but a shame that this was left off the 2019-22 HHAL tour, especially on the US tour.
