I remember how my mind split hearing Squarepusher for the first time 20 some years ago...convinced the music of the future had finally arrived. All I wanted was to someday witness this music live with full instrumentation but never really thinking it possible. Getting to see Squarepusher live was amazing but I always hoped that some day, the future would come and I'd see a group of musicians playing Tom's music live on stage. When I heard of Shobaleader One, I essentially lost my shit...I thought the future is finally here! Last week I got to experience this 20yr dream live and it was nothing short of perfect. I have seen too many shows to count but this whole thing is another level. Every chance possible I will be there to witness the future of music in the now. Shobaleader One 😨
I felt quite the same watching Shobaleader One live about 2 years ago :) That's the power and beauty of music - it never ceases to surprise music lovers
@@mot00rzysta very same. Feed me weird things is a milestone .. and randomly discovering that shoaba was Thom J. in Berlin x jazz fest .. I went out of curiosity.. and BAM! they played so many old monuments 😍 my heart and brain danced all along
I saw them live.. this does them no justice. They ruined me for other shows, the bar was set very high. When I saw tool live, I thought the same thing about them, they blew tool out of the water.
I was struggling how to explain / put in words how much of an excited, hyper emotional state this set leaves me in... your comment is fucking excellent haha
every once and a while i listen to the shobaleader version of coopers world and it hits me like a truck, ridiculous amounts of energy in that track ESPECIALLY in the ending
I remember seeing Squarepusher at Reading Festival when his sound ended up being all fkd so he couldn't perform. He spent a couple mins shouting at the sound guys over the PA for a minute then ended up just playing the sickest 15 minute bass solo I've ever seen in lieu of a proper performance. Was probably a crappy gig for him but it was an amazing show to watch.
Gotta give that keyboardist props for holding that constant 16th note synth line for SEVEN FUCKING MINUTES STRAIGHT during Journey to Reedham. It's one thing to play complex stuff, but that level of stamina/precision is very difficult to execute.
Yep, that broke my brain also. I would have simply assumed it was an arpeggiator, but if it was, the drummer would have to be playing to a click track, and We Can't Have That.
Far spicier than Alarm Will Sound. Tom says he got the idea for Shobaleader One after having a surreal dream, but I reckon it's 'cos he saw RU-vid drummers and bassists playing along to VSnares and Aphex tracks and whatnot, and thought to himself, "might as well take this idea to its logical conclusion".
yessss a journey to reed ham is like uhmmmm well i call them cushy beats cause they’re so lush like a blankee but as i write this as i listen and watch . . . whoah there it is when that synth kicks in. . . jaha you know . . . that ONE :p ( actually probably do) highsingy like one omg thanks
Everyone was solo on point but u gotta nail that synth line fan in journey, set quantized looping to 16th note? Sync error in envelope?..either way best audio project on earth atm imo.. Tom, u AMAZE me as always! as does the rest of the band.. no LOVE lost playing keys to pusher tunes live is no ez feat!! just a sync error it seemed? but Shobaone Leader pleases play Tampa or fl sooooooooon!! And love esp @ the man Mr jenkinson I've it, Made impossible music and then play said any possible music live what more could want, trully one of the greatest jazz musicians/ and group of all time impo... beat that naughty bass!! Keep up the great work please!!!!!
Saw them a couple of days ago at the Brudenell in Leeds. They were totally fucking unbelievable - Squarepusher's the best bass player I've *ever* seen, and the drummer is beyond ridiculous. You lose your mind, basically. If you ever get the remotest chance of seeing them play, just do it!
Yeah man, saw them at Womad and thought it was just squarepusher, didnt even know the live band was a thing. Totally blew my mind and everyone else there i think. Peoples jaws were on the floor. Best live band i think i've ever seen!
